As I have got older, I have discovered there are many things that have simplified my life and made me happier and healthier. And a lot of these discoveries have come about by removing certain things from my life.
In this video, I talk about 34 things I quit to simplify my life and they are broken down into different categories; digital things I have quit, things I have quit eating and drinking, personal habits I have quit, ways of thinking I have quit and there is a whole section dedicated to the things I have quit doing with my mobile phone.
Watch this video if you have ever wondered how to simplify your life in this chaotic world. These are my tips based on my own experience, but I can confirm that they are making a big difference. I am new to the world of minimalism and minimalist living, but, with having two children, it is making a world of difference.
I would love to hear your thoughts about any of the things I talk about in this video or about any things you have quit to simplify your own life. Leave a comment down below to let me know!
Thanks for watching the video 34 things I quit to simplify my life.

Great video! I have found many of the same things as you. I am at the moment 34, and newly turned father just over a year ago. To me, having a kid made me take things much more seriously. I can aspecially relate to the mood alterning things you mentioned like news, social media, etc. I have really started treating myself almost like a coach with goals I want to help myself reach. Mainly being the best dad I can be. My time, mood, health (physically and mentally) is more important to me now. I am not any more superficial now, but I take money much more seriously. The irony is, even though this might sound like a boring life, I feel awesome! It feels nice to know you are taking care of yourself. Keep making great videos! I think you inspire many people 🙂

Thank you so much! And congratulations to you on becoming a father. I had my first child around the same age that you are now. I remember feeling a bit lost at the time. And then when my second son was born (when I was 37) I burnt out and ended up in hospital with pneumonia. That was my turning point and was the wake up call I needed. It sounds like you are doing a grand job of looking after yourself and your family. I wish you nothing but the best! Many thanks again.🙂

Simply an incredible video. I am a teenager, and after watching this video, it made me really think about the things I do. I wouldn't say that I am a person who isn't active, but some of the other points really applied to me. I am definitely going to give this a rewatch and start enjoying life more. There is one quote that I would suggest more people really think deeply about, and that is 'you never know what you have until you lose it.' I lost my mom at the age of ten, and that has given me some valuable ways of thinking and, yes, just enjoy life

Thank you so much! I am so sorry to hear that you lost your Mum at such a young age. That must have been incredibly hard. It is amazing that you have such a positive outlook on life after what you have been through. I wish you nothing but happiness. Thanks again 🙂

Collections. Lol. Meanwhile I bought 9 more books today off Marketplace. And two months ago I started buying DVDs so I can move away from binging on streaming. Different strokes for different folks.

I do understand this! I guess my collection CD and DVD collection is bursting at the seams. I'm ashamed to admit I still have many DVDs still in their cellophane wrap. I'm sure that one day I will watch them!

Great to see you back and some fantastic ideas…phone outside bedroom, phone less attractive, alarm clock, fitness etc. Introspective - best Pet Shop Boys album ever.

Thanks so much! I would have to say that I prefer 'Actually' and 'Behaviour' to 'Introspective' but still, an amazing album!

Ohh, I think Introspective was one of those ‘soundtrack to my 16th year’ albums. South side of Glasgow, 1986, CD on full volume!!

@@the_cafe_racer_project You had a CD player in 1986? Wow! I have so many fond memories from my childhood of listening to Pet Shop Boys. For me, I think it was loads of car journeys in the 80s when I was aged seven or eight listening to Actually and Behaviour.

Showing my age…it would have been 88 not 86!! Weirdly, my car journey music is John Denver, the Carpenters or Runrig (The cutter and the clan) that my dad used to listen to when he drove us to Easterhouse to visit my gran!

Great video! My favourite part is, the ways of thinking you quit, I'm sick of being too hard on myself. And i just yesterday decided that I'm stop watching news, don't know what has happened but it feels the world becoming worse and worse everyday, and however much i try i feel like what is the point anyway, I'm becoming kind of nihilistic, even when i try to see the positive, i don't feel any happiness or joy anymore. I don't know what to do, but for now i have decided to change my lifestyle a bit, take care of my mental health , and not think too much and focus on my goals, maybe after achieving them i will feel something good. I don't know if anyone has found any solutions for this please tell me. And I'm telling you at the moment I'm definitely not as positive as this comment sounds, I'm trying to be but i can't feel it.

Thank you so much! A news detox is a really good idea. It certainly helped me as did curbing my phone / internet use. More walks outside without digital interruptions always helps too. And yes, it's crucial that you don't give yourself a hard time. You are doing the best you can. I wish you all the very best.

Still watching, but I agree very much on #15 & #16 which have to do with the punitive schema. #15 especially is really a self-imposed prison, and people can and should really free themselves. I think resolving #16 would come together then.

Totally agree. You need to look after yourself first before you can properly take care of others.

I have a question. I've been kind of curious to know your motivation of running the channel. I like your videos, been watching for a few years now, but is it mostly to record your personal life and share what you learned? Just curious because I think if your goal was to become a big KZbinr I could imagine your making videos that focus on what people want to watch, if you know what I mean.. I like both sides from your videos though haha

Thank you so much for watching over the years! I really really appreciate that. Very good question. If I'm honest, I just enjoy the process of making videos and sharing the stuff that I am interested in. Some people seem to respond to that well which I am really grateful for. I like the idea of building a portfolio of work that I am proud of. And I like documenting my life and interests in this way. I probably don't post enough at the moment to grow the channel consistently, but I will keep plugging away. It always means a lot when something I have made resonates with someone. Saying all that, it would of course be good to know what kind of videos you think I should make that people would like to watch! I'm very hit and miss... Thanks again 👍

Thank you for the video. Maybe because we are the same age and (perhaps..don't know for sure) similar in many ways, I find your views very relatable, although you articulate yourself far better than I ever do. It saddens me that you look at some of your content as failure. Views are but one metric, and not a particularly important one. Content about dubious crypto schemes or railing against the political point of the day would no doubt earn you more interest, but I would hardly call that a win. You appear to have had great success in life in almost every single metric that matters. Like you suggest; 'don't be too hard on yourself!' Make content that you love, and people will watch it... if not, then you have made a video that you love. Even if ultimately I am just a guy that watches things on KZbin, I enjoy your content very much. Thank you!

Hey Martin, I can't thank you enough for this comment. It's probably the nicest thing anyone has ever written in response to a video I've made. You are absolutely right to remind me of my own words and take heed! It's people like you that remind me of why I continue to make videos for KZbin - Thank you so much!
