Why you're more successful than you realise

Why you’re more successful than you realise. Recently I have been thinking a lot about success. How do we define it and how do we know when we have been successful?
In this video, I look at the dictionary definition of success. There are two - one which I hate and the other which I believe in.
Society has conditioned us to believe that success is about the attainment of wealth, position and fame. I can’t abide this. I choose to focus on success as being, “the achievement of something attempted”. Why? Because we can choose what this ‘something’ is.
History is littered with examples of outwardly successful people who have achieved great wealth, position and fame, but who have paid a great price for their success. All things considered, does this still make them successful?I have been guilty of comparing myself to others and their accomplishments. This only leads to disappointment. We are all on our own paths and success is relative. We can choose what success means to us.
We are made to believe that success is happiness. But I would argue that we have this completely wrong. It is the total opposite. Happiness is success.
In the video I also talk about a simple daily habit I have undertaken that has made me significantly happier. It’s a journaling exercise that takes five minutes and has the acronym ‘AMWAP’ and stands for ‘As Many Wins As Possible’.
I wanted to make this video as a reminder to everyone that success is relative and we all choose our own definition. It was inspired by Jim Carrey’s University address in which he said, “I’ve often said that I wish people could realise all their dreams and wealth and fame and… So that they could see that it’s not where you’re going to find your sense of completion”.
Here’s to your own success, however you define that to be.
Thank you for watching!

I'd also add that success is conquered by the freedom of knowledge. What I mean by that is, being able to understand society, as you did, and recognizing that many of its definitions-such as success, happiness, relationships, health, and so on-are often designed to trap you or sell you a lie to control your life. We live in a society where many people are trying to gain control over you and your mind. Instead of teaching you how to be a truly free-minded person, they create drones that push a certain agenda or way of thinking. Many leaders do this without knowing, and the followers even less so. True happiness, encompassing everything you mentioned, is being able to recognize these traps and carefully consider what is useful for your life and what is not. By taking certain paths with an understanding of their potential consequences, this knowledge makes you aware of who you are as a human being and gives you insight into what really matters in this world and age. Choosing what truly matters brings an immense sense of quietude and peace, leaving all anxiety about our existence behind.

I like your thinking! In particular what you think true happiness is. I would agree!

Actualy the definition of success in the Cambridge dictionary is: the achieving of the results wanted or hoped for. The Definition is similar in the oxford dictionary and the collins dictionary.

Very similar to, "The achievement of something attempted." All definitions allow for the interpretation of what that 'something' is or what is "wanted and hoped for". But thank you for adding this definition.

Depends on what you want, if the thumbnail is what you want and you got it, then you are succesfull. If having two PHD's and writing articles about marine biology is what you want and you got it, then you are also succesfull. The spectrum is very wide, I would say that success is achieving what you want in a effective way and time frame. Thanks for the video and keep doing this

Thank you for the video. Reaffirmed that I would much rather be happy than successful. If can achieve that, then I will have inherently achieved both.

Thank you for the video. I think most people have a hard time looking objectively at their own successes (and failures) myself included. Like you mention, often great success in one area does not translate to a happy life; balance and an appreciation of what you have achieved is important, even if nobody else shares your definition. Andy Murray is (almost certainly!) thankful you paved the way for the success of Scottish tennis.
