Why you’re more successful than you realise. Recently I have been thinking a lot about success. How do we define it and how do we know when we have been successful?
In this video, I look at the dictionary definition of success. There are two - one which I hate and the other which I believe in.
Society has conditioned us to believe that success is about the attainment of wealth, position and fame. I can’t abide this. I choose to focus on success as being, “the achievement of something attempted”. Why? Because we can choose what this ‘something’ is.
History is littered with examples of outwardly successful people who have achieved great wealth, position and fame, but who have paid a great price for their success. All things considered, does this still make them successful?I have been guilty of comparing myself to others and their accomplishments. This only leads to disappointment. We are all on our own paths and success is relative. We can choose what success means to us.
We are made to believe that success is happiness. But I would argue that we have this completely wrong. It is the total opposite. Happiness is success.
In the video I also talk about a simple daily habit I have undertaken that has made me significantly happier. It’s a journaling exercise that takes five minutes and has the acronym ‘AMWAP’ and stands for ‘As Many Wins As Possible’.
I wanted to make this video as a reminder to everyone that success is relative and we all choose our own definition. It was inspired by Jim Carrey’s University address in which he said, “I’ve often said that I wish people could realise all their dreams and wealth and fame and… So that they could see that it’s not where you’re going to find your sense of completion”.
Here’s to your own success, however you define that to be.
Thank you for watching!
