35 - Clearing & Cleaning Unveils A True Hidden Treasure!

As another week dawns upon us, we're here to give you a short summary of the ongoing excavation work behind the barns! Just like last week, we're tidying up the property, uncovering odds and ends, and transforming broken branches into stove-sized logs for firewood. Then, the awaited day arrives when we can finally unveil a true hidden treasure that has been patiently awaiting discovery! It's one we've been searching for since last summer, hidden so well beneath the impenetrable thicket of brambles. But finally, the original red tractor from the farm has revealed itself through our zoom lens, and what a beauty she is. Take a look for yourself and enjoy!

I thought you might use the wood chip as mjulch around planting beds or as a bottom layer in raised beds I’ve seen others use it on dirt paths also .

Once you finish with cleaning it might be good to reassess the whole area. Weedy, brambly areas are good for birds and other wildlife. If there are some areas that can be just mowed or burned seasonally and allowed to grow back up each year it will sustain these species. They will control pests in other parts of your property.

Don't ever apologise for complaining, I can't believe how much shit you have had to pull out of the ground etc already, also it's such a worry when you have metal/glass on the ground especially when Odin start walking around etc. But every little step you claim back from the shit and brambles you certainly are turning/making everything beautiful again. What a great find 😃, I agree you can't beat the old makes of tractors, and even if you can't repair it maybe you can relocate it somewhere and use it for a thing Odin can play on when he's a little older, my son used to love play on a very old tractor that was used for that purpose when he was 3/4 years old.

You have enough brambles near the pond to hide a small village! You're doing an excellent job clearing the land. I think about the early American pioneers who went out to clear land to create their farms. All they had was an axe, a saw, a hoe and a shovel. Remarkable! By the time you're finished, you'll have enough firewood to stay warm until 2027! Also enough recycling to become best friends with the guy who runs the recycling center. Elderberry wine? I wonder if one of the previous owners created his own garbage dump? He wasn't using the land for anything else, so he just created his own dump? Lazy, but I guess he didn't care. What a great find! How often do you magically find a tractor? Wouldn't it be wonderful if it works and can help you with your farm?

Because the exhaust isn't a vertical one, but goes under the tractor, the liklihood is that rain may not have penetrated into the engine. if the engine is free and turns over, it will not be too much of a problem to get it going. If it were mine - and I am very envious of your find - I wouldn't restore and repaint it, just keep it looking as it is with an oily rag and repair the trailer and go haul stuff!

Although I have never tried this, try tipping some coca cola down the bores. This will involve removing the injectors which you would probably need to do anyway. Leave it for a week or so and try turning the engine over again. Use a socket on the bottom pulley nut and work it slowly back and forth with as much leverage as you can.

One or two mistletoe infections usually won't affect the health of a tree but a heavy infestation will kill the tree eventually. The land is looking better every week. It's a shame you have to expand so much effort, but the results are very satisfying, I'm sure!

Hey Wayne, that was what i am thinking the tree is literally full of them and i think the branch snapped under the weight of them. It is what it is with the clean up, in a sense i am happy with the digger i can find the piles more easily and clean them up.

What a great find a tractor at least being a diesel it should turn over as long as no water has managed to get in from the exhaust and into the engine. Try taking out the glow plugs & put some diesel into the plug holes and let it stand overnight then try turning it over

haha, op onze laatste wandeling hebben we ook allemaal dezelfde sigarettenpakjes opgeraapt... soms is het zelf maar een iemand die gewoon zijn of haar "kloten" eraan vaagt 😂 maar ik zou zeggen blijven gaan er zijn meer mensen dan je denkt die dezelfde mindset hebben en het graag proper zien! Soms voelden wij ons ook alleen in deze struggle maar als je goed kijkt zijn er echt wel heel veel mensen begaan met de natuur! 👍👊😎

Put the planks under the excavator side ways so both tracks are on them one lengthways and the track often will slip off the side of the plank . if you have several planks then it will stop the excavator from sinking .. Great work and well done ! farm is really taking shape

A small dumper truck (3 tonne thwaites) would be handy for you, the digging and the collection of the wood. You can sell it on later, much easier than the barrow.

It sucks but we will clean it up and get it too what its supposed to be! Yeah it is not all bad, we find like old locks and hinges as well which we can reuse somewhere else.

Happy Easter and April Fools Day! The property just keeps getting better. Clearing and cleaning ground is like ensuring a structure has a good foundation. Everything you plant and build will benefit from the cleanup, not to mention, creating a safe place for you, your family and your pets. Hard work... I bought a house and 10,000 square meters of garden in the village, for two years with my father from spring to autumn, 10-12 hours a day of work, just cutting trees, cleaning trees, cutting wood Of fire. I had to mow the whole garden because it was full of little trees... Keep up the good work, it's going to look good when it's done!
