I bought an ‘81 Scrambler in ‘85 and it was about 6 grand. It was the yellowish/goldish paint with tan hard top and tan seats. I used to take that top off all summer. What a blast and life git in the way so I sold it. Great channel Dennis & Co!!

these old jeeps remind me of my army days in south africa in 1978 as punishment two of us had to get jeep ready for inspection we polished the matt green paint with floor wax including tyres painted the wheel nuts red passed inspection got weekend pass then our captain drove it in the rain with polish all over the tread first corner straight into a tree 3 days in hospital needless to say no more weekend pss. cheers great video

Triple Black Jeep, I thinking 1 of 5 . You didn’t say holy grail Jeep. But wow , both tops how cool is that. Every winter I wish I had a hard top for my 78 CJ . To have both top already installed, I guess I should have asked about that option when I bought mine. Thanks Dennis, great stuff.

My jeep is a 77 cj7 renegade Levi quadratrak . 304, t400, factory saturn overdrive on the rear of t-case. Lever was on rh floor of driver.

Restored my (now gone) '78 CJ-7 and painted it yellow. Looked really good. Was going to go with a blue denim Levi's package but the company I was buying parts from quit making the rear seat in blue denim the month before. So, I went with a tan interior. Anyway, looked good, but would love to have had the blue interior.

I had a 2006 TJ Rubicon, factory ordered, triple black, dual tops with the auto trans. That was a pretty rare combo since everyone else was going with the manual, so I'm going to say the 2004 triple black Rubi with dual tops is a 1 of 5 build.

Great looking Jeep! Have had several CJ's, 2 YJ's, 3 TJ,s and on my first JK. The most "civilized" ride you get with the JK. I love CJ's, but a "built" TJ will knock your socks off! I'd say there were no more then about a dozen of the Triple Black TJ's built for that year.

A buddy of mine owns a landscaping business and he had a 1980? Golden Eagle Jeep with a 304 And a 4 speed that he used for plowing driveways had a Meyers plow on the front of it we did the same thing to it,, did a high end valve job on it , put a RV cam in it, left it as a 2 barrel with the FOMOCO 2BBL.. Jetted the two barrel a little bit.. ( like they used to do in the stock cars back in the day) but it was constantly going through clutches... about 1 a year. Bob Chandler is a good friend of mine from Midwest four-wheel drive my buddy wanted to put a heavy duty clutch in this Jeep so I hooked up with Bob, we bought a brand new flywheel, a Mccleod 3400 pound pressure plate and a zoom purple clutch. You want to talk about a torque monster..?? I've had a lot of low geard vehicles in my time but this thing would of pulled the guts outta Paul Bunyan.💫💥😵. Never put another clutch in it again..10 years till he sold it

Dennis, one fun fact and one correction. Fun fact: The only 03-06 Rubicon that got the machine finish Moab wheels was the 03’. What you’ll find is you have a late 03’ that carried over and was called an 04. Next, a correction I made on an LJ video you posted, the 03-06 Rubicon did NOT have electric lockers - they had air lockers. The front and rear air pumps are located behind the transfer case on the drivers side. Electric did not begin until 07’. Lastly I would guess there were 213 triple black rubes in 04. I would guess this one to be even more rare being carried over from 03’.

I really love your videos Dennis as you are so knowledgeable and passionate about the various vehicles you fix or buy. I Worked at a Chrysler dealer with the Jeep franchise too for 25 years selling and was Sales Manager the last bunch of years. The owner went nuts in the 90's when I ordered a YJ with the Sahara Package with auto trans and A/C and the 6 cyl of course. Boss said it'd never sell and it was on the showroom floor 2 days and a mid 30's professional woman walked into the dealership took one look at it and said finally and bought it right there. I have always loved the factory anomaly vehicles..

The CJ8s had bolt holes for back seats just like a CJ7. Some dealers were putting back seats and full tops on them so you could bring your wife and kids. I bought a bulkhead from a dealer a long time ago that he had sitting around for my CJ8 since the PO cut speaker holes in it.

In 89 My father ordered a 4.2L auto YJ Laredo which we still have ( restored ) but you could get a E-class Mercedes for the same money back the days.

Deniss the TJ Rubicon’s used a low pressure air lockers. There are 2 air pumps on the cross member/skid plate.left side just behind transfer case. The JK series is the first to use the electric lockers.

FWIW, I bought one of the first ‘87 Wranglers off the lot at Love Ford/Jeep in Dallas. It had AC and hard top, but no radio, crank windows and manual lock. It was $13,000 new; that was a long time ago, but it felt “reasonably” priced at the time.
