I just set mine up in the garden at the weekend for the first time. We had some heavy gusts and it handled well. Although I wouldn't take it out in consistent high winds. Ne er thought about adding the walking poles to see how that helped. I like it! It's a lot of tent for not a lot of money. I do agree about the pocket being a total waste of time too. Good vid cheers 👍🏻

I’ve ordered myself an X-Dome. I’m predominantly a fair weather backpacker, so it should fit my needs perfectly. Really looking forward to it.

Floor space of Taiji 1 looks similar to Lanshan 1, which is a great tent. Looks more spacious above. Great hack with tent poles. I rate 3FUL highly for the ratio of price to quality performance.

So with the nitecore headlamp bag lantern, best way to do it is tighten the bag around the lamp so it bunches up into a wee ball. Gives a much better light.

Great video, Andrew! It really does look like a brilliant tent for the money, I'm starting to feel the purchase cravings😅 And it looks really spacious, you did a great job on showing the scale of the inside - it looks like the perfect size for a solo hiker/backpacker with that extra inside space. Sadly most 1 person tent doesn't fit the bag inside the inner tent if you're not using it as a pillow, but this really does!

Just wanted to add, I usually use my jacket/towel/clothes for a pillow and use my pack to elevate my legs.

Hi Andy. Nice review, although you took yer time 😉 I was interested to see what you thought of the Taiji 1 in the wild 🙂I bought it as an alternative to my Bobcat, which I adore, but the Bobcat doesn't offer a great deal of space when you need to hunker down inside in the winter for hours n hours. The Taiji 1 does and it seems to cope not too shabbily with a bit of weather either. Cheers man, intrugued as to what this tent you have on order is.

Cheers Andrew, tents doesn't seem to bad. Ticks will have come in with cows. Poles are a good idear, maybe add some gyes?😊

Cool tent that ticks a lot of boxes for me as well. Very reminiscent of the lightwave s10 (s15 nowadays) which is still a favourite of mine when I want to go light. But this one is a bit more spacious, has a better doordesign and is a good deal lighter then my other favourite the naturehike cloudpeak 2.

The Durston X-Dome is set up with pockets to use trekking poles exactly the way you are doing with the Taiji. Dan demonstrates the tent can support a 40lb pack on top with the trekking poles added.

I'm so sorry that Naturehike stop selling the Naturehike Vik1. I just love that tent despite the minor condensation issue. I lost the tent poles when my backpack took a dive into a deep valley. Manege to craft the tent poles again but i wish i could buy another. Some awesome tents from China this times :D

I'm afraid I think the X Dome will only be good for mild weather, low level backpacking. I hope to be proved wrong but from the video I saw I think a a windy day in the hills and it'll be busted.
@marioneto506 күн бұрын
Great tent and video. I'd be worried that the trekking poles might abrade the fabric loop near the brow pole. Did you notice any damage?

Great back and fit with the camp poles Andy. The taiji looks great. Ps, glad got your trainers clean. Well until you trod in that massive cow assbomb.

Decent test camp that, I’d still rather have one of these over a Hilleberg any day of the week…not that I can’t afford a Hilleberg or the like, but I just flat-out refuse to pay more than £300 for a tent! I have 7 tents/shelters that I use regular for my wild camps, at a total cost of £940 (the price of 1 Hilleberg).
@stevec-b6214Ай бұрын
why rant about hillebergs?, each to their own. I have a used akto £450 for serious weather in high ground and a cheaper 2 man tent for the rest=£600

Andrew, its Martin, back again for advice. Looking for a free standing tent 4 season weighing less than 4lbs with mesh, two poles. Prefer double wall, with easily removable fly sheet. I’m in the states. I really like the idea of the old msr advanced pro but it has poor venting options and no way to remove condensation. Really like the hilleberg niak but looking for other options any suggestions?
@AndrewParkOutdoorsАй бұрын
Hi Martin, off the top of my head have you looked at something like the slingfin hotbox/stone glacier Solus ? I've also ordered a Pretents Border which is kind of similar , hopefully I'll get to test it this weekend.
@martinclennon4640Ай бұрын
@@AndrewParkOutdoors just watched the video on the hotbox and solus. Both amazing tents really ticks all the boxes.

I really like that tent but am a little hesitant as it's not a top brand. I am looking at Helm 1 but it's a lot more money. Would you say it's a good option. Cheers fella, I think it was English Woodsman who mentioned being his strongest 1 maner
@AndrewParkOutdoorsАй бұрын
I've never tried the Helm but it's well respected. 3f ul is a big brand too ( they probably sell more than Terra Nova/Wild Country too I would think ). I think you'd not go wrong with either tbh. A

@@AndrewParkOutdoors thanks for prompt reply, I will be testing whichever I decide to buy in all seasons up the fells. It will be replacing my OEX bobcat that I massively respect but it's just too small for me. Need a bit more space. Cheers Andrew

Believe me, as a 3fulgear dealer, the sales volume of this brand will be much greater than many, many more expensive brands. The price is lower than theirs just: the business strategy is to use lower prices in exchange for greater sales. For example: 3fugear sells a tent for £150, and the sales volume is 1,000 per month, while other expensive tents sell for £300, and the sales volume is 200 per month.

FWIW Terra Nova are bringing out an updated Helm 1. Lighter weight, new colour, spring 2025. Very strong, capable tent in wind and snow.
@Howling-Mad-MurdockАй бұрын
My mate went from a bobcat to Helm1, he loves it. The Helm1 is great in wind, I have the Helm2 and the 1 is so solid in the wind it has me considering swapping. The design of the tent in this vid makes me think you’d definitely need to use trekking poles to firm it up for when the wind starts getting up.

I think it'll handle what any lightweight backpacking tent can handle but I have to say carbon poles give me the fear based on the failures I've had.
@jonathankobbe607322 күн бұрын
@AndrewParkOutdoors its available in carbon aswell as aluminium. It ist verrry strong in the wind and features an insane lot of guyout points as well as a stretch free fabeic. Wind should really not be an issue, but im interested to see more videos of how it performs.
