porting the kegger intake manfold for my 99 dakota rt with a 360 magnum. picked up 15 horsepower at peak and over 15 horsepower in the midrange and picked up almost 20 ft/lbs of torque across the midrange

Like the video. I usually use Ultra gray and basically glue the intake gaskets to the intake to keep it in place. And cooking spray on tbe head side to help it not to stick. (But, never really had to go back in)

The one I just played with was a metal pan gasket. 98 still has the divider.

Must be pot luck on the divider. The last two 97 intakes I played with had no divider

Definitely alot of work but shows some real potential in the kegger manifold. Appreciate the time and effort to put the content out there for these old magnums. I think the tubes turned out superior than what the VRPs would have.

It’s a lot of work but with the volume reduction plates the perform just as well or if not better than the crappy air gaps out there UTAwesome on here has a great coverage of it .

Have you checked out the before and after Dyno video? IV got another coming soon-ish I hope of my air gap testing. air gap did pick up at the higher rpms but only 10hp or so nothing as extreme as people claim. At least with my current setup. Bigger cam coming soon.

@@thomasbeyer I haven’t. I just started searching around again for my current project. I have seen the potential though. I think the 318 I am doing for my sons car will have 11” runners. Seems to be the happiest with hp to tq equalization

I can't understand why that intake is shaped like that. It's shaped like for an engine that could rev to 12000 Rpms. Takes up a lot of valuable real estate. I would have liked to find an intake with a dual "H" pattern like the old engines. Also would have liked to find an aftermarket Throttle body shaped with dual small primaries and bigger secondaries like old carbs.
@thomasbeyer2 жыл бұрын
The intake is shaped like that to have really long runners for low rpm torque and it definitely does that but a dual plane intake is definitely a better option. Iv had the same thought on a staggered bore throttle body they make staged throttle bodies but I think it would be beneficial to have small primaries for gentle throttle response if that's what you want and then the secondaries can be as big as you want for all the flow.

@thomasbeyer4 ай бұрын
Iv had both. Wit the the smaller cam the Hughes made no difference over my ported manifold even at 6200rpm. So in my opinion it really depends on what you have. With the new bigger cam I'm sure it is making a significant difference.

@thomasbeyer11 ай бұрын
I wouldn't do it. It will kill a lot of low end power and I don't know that it will make it up on the top end. Early lt1 intakes have very short runners and they do pretty decent tho.

Almost exactly what I did to mine, except I used a speed limit sign as volume reducing plates, have not used a wedge either but I did think about going back in later with one I just don't really have the ambition to dyno mine so thanks for the grunt work haha. I'm wondering now if cutting the throttle area in to a large oval would be worth it next time I remove to do the wedge...then maybe get one of them fancy expensive throttle bodies.. Great content as always
@thomasbeyer3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. At higher RPMs mine is starting to gain vacuum so there's a sign that it needs a bigger throttle body but I'm not going to do that till after I get my headers done and see what 1.75 long tubes are worth
@stickfightjesser3 жыл бұрын
@@thomasbeyer Man I'd love a set of headers but the ZJ headers are notoriously expensive and I haven't got around to getting a set of dakota headers modded up yet. I did just pick up a 95 Dakota with a 3.9 im thinking of dropping in the 5.2 i pulled when i 5.9 swapped my ZJ.
@thomasbeyer3 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah why not. I'm working on a set of long tubes I think will be a fairly cheap option considering nobody makes long tubes for Dakota's anymore and when they did they were a 1300-1400
