What’s Islamic about this?
@samiramian
@samiramian 2 жыл бұрын
Islamic art was and is created by people of different faiths, cultures and languages in a period spanning 1,400 years. The term Islamic art is a useful umbrella term that we can consider as short-hand for ʽart that originated from the Islamic landsʼ. It is not a term that all that practise the art would use. Many who are proud of the art form from their particular region would much prefer to call it something that reflects this local expertise, heritage and talent. The term ‘Islamic lands’ dates back to the birth of Islam in the 7th century in modern day Saudi Arabia, although the religion’s roots go back much further. As the faith grew, the ‘Islamic lands’ spread to the east as far as China and to the west to Spain and Morocco. In its early stages, the arts were influenced by what came before, and evolved and grew in the many Islamic empires. Some regions developed distinctly from others, whilst other art forms and practices could be seen across a number of regions throughout the centuries. Please read more in an article I wrote: www.atm.org.uk/write/MediaUploads/Journals/MT273/03.pdf

hello, no I can't do it again. I can't tell you how many beautiful drawings and paintings I've been sent or seen based on this tutorial. So perhaps you should draw it again, pausing/slowing down the video and not expecting perfection from the first attempt.

Patterns Patterns Patterns. By banning forms Islamic geometry is blind and deaf (I can't call it "Art"). Blind sheep.

You mean blind and deaf sheep.
@bluesque9704
@bluesque9704 4 жыл бұрын
@@samiramian Yes, isn't it? If you can't have forms and later an improvisation of forms-- to harness a visual experience into a visual expression-- then your expression is blind, isn't it? The basics of any comprehension are the various aspects of identifying/constructing forms. Islamic Geometry does indeed build forms which are more like patterns but they don't relate to the visual experience of reality. You can compare it with Western arts to see what I mean! And, sheep because there are not many break away artists! Deaf because even a blind bat is aware of solidity and shapes of forms in reality!

@Lauren Damaso Ruiz That's a very admirable response to my comment. The reason I am here is that I am interested in the art of the middle East and central Asia and all those regions which were under some form of Islamic rule. And, art which therefore tends to carry a strain of Islam, but mostly mixes cultures of the indigenous people with the cultures of dominant Islamic regimes.And although Persian, Turkish, Egyptian, Arabic, Kurdish, Mughal, etc.. are all beautiful, they are beautiful mainly due to the sensibilities in the cultures of the indigenous people rather than due to "Islam".

Absolutely disappointed that you name my country's art "islamic" this art style is pre-islamic and is one of the few things left after Arabs tried to destroy everything about our past. What a shame that you did little to no research and give credit to a religion for my culture and its art. What a shame.
@samiramian

Feel free to show many any example of Geometric Patterns from Iran from before the 8th century. I'm predicting you can't. I would also suggest that you research the patterns more broadly to discover they exist in multiple locations across 3 continents over hundreds of years. This can broadly be described as Islamic Lands. Hence the umbrella term- Islamic Geometric patterns which is useful when so many try to decontextulaise and misappropriate these patterns.
