Got a chance to see them with this full lineup. Two drummers, two background singers in Bozeman Montana. They fricken blew that place down, I left with my eyebrows singed and my nose hairs burnt. I've never heard such a solid show in my life. What a pleasure.

Back in 2005, I was in an ac/dc tribute band and we played a beer fest in Bozeman. The people there treated us like we were the real ac/dc and we kinda sucked, LOL. Point being, Bozeman is the place where I met some of the coolest people on the planet. The next night we played a homecoming dance at in Havre at the university. Insanely wild crowd. Like really insane. College girls taking their clothes off on the stage, cops in horses, doing shots. Montana fucking rules.

My local Top 40 radio station in Winston-Salem, North Carolina played this song heavily in 1980. This was WSEZ 93.1 FM known as Z-93. Those were some fun times! I thought this song was a major national hit. I was shocked to learn later that this song missed the Top 40. It made it to position 43 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. I saw these guys a few times over the years. Always awesome. In 2003, I saw them in a small venue called The Dakota Creek Roadhouse, in Blaine, WA. They blew the roof off the joint. But when they played this song, the place literally went into a frenzy. The bartenders were giving out free shots for the entire song. Even the band was taking shots from the crowd. LOL, there were even cops inside, rocking with everyone else. Great memory via 38 Special.

.38 Special are criminally overlooked by so many. I mean just watch this video clip and tell me these guys can't play and sing! Plus this song is harder to perform than you might think. My co-guitarist and I have been working on it for 2 rehearsals and it's kind of tricky. The timing on some of "Rockin' Into The Night" chords starts on the 3rd beat which doesn't feel natural until you get it down pat. Thank God the guitar solo isn't super hard. it's definitely sophisticated but doable with lots of practice.

+Tommy Hazlewood I've never really understood this...you see it in a lot of places that Donnie Van Zant is lead vocals which was certainly the case maybe early, early on when they were doing more southern rock but hasn't been since they started being mainstream rock...in fact I really don't understand what he really does. He plays a little guitar and dances around and does some backing vocals, but I wonder if the rest of the band eventually outgrew and overshadowed him. But he's always put out there as 1 or 2 in the order of the members listed...often 1st as you see here - and he consistently is in the middle of photos like he is the front man when he's not. Just weird.
