It's great to see Princeton Junction again. When I went to Princeton for graduate school, I would regularly take the train from Princeton Junction into New York. It is quite an experience to see the Northeast corridor trains come through without stopping. Never before or since have I stood so close to a train going so fast. The first few times it happened, my life flashed before my eyes!

Recently discovered your channel and videos. Excellent videos and narration!!!! Some railroad archaeology - Between video 31:15 and 31:50 is where the PRR used and maintained track pans at Plainsboro, NJ until about 1948 (allowing steam locomotive tenders to take water “on the fly”). The small black rectangle (in the trackside vegetation) at video 31:17 is a remnant of the back wall of the foundation of the track pans pump house, which drew water from the adjacent Millstone River (bridge at video 31:14). These foundations are visible in some Google and Bing aerial photographs, west trackside, just north of the Millstone River. The overhead bridge at video 44:21 is what survives from the overhead track that allowed eastbound PRR trains to access US Army Camp Kilmer without crossing over three tracks at grade. Originally a track diverged about 45 degrees diagonally from mainline track 1, ascended and curved west on an earthen embankment, crossed over 4 mainline tracks, and then descended into Camp Kilmer. The embankments were removed decades ago and only the bridge remains, most likely, because removal would be costly or disruptive. Topographic maps from between 1945 and 1960 show the embankments' divergence and wide radius turn to the overhead crossing of the mainline and the descent into the large Camp Kilmer rail yard.

When train 3843 was arriving it look like another train went by on track 3 while it was at the station. It appears to be Amtrak but could not swear to it. Sometime just after 6:48 about the 4th car on the 3843 you will see something on the catenary to me looks like a pantagraph. Did anyone else see it. After watching the rest of 3843 I heard in cometary that you mentioned the Amtrak train. Oh well I had already typed my comment up. Robert in Lagrande Oregon

I grew up near the Amboy Secondary in East Brunswick by Spotswood but never saw the EP5 , did it stop running EP5s in 1965? Saw a lot of coal trains heading to the South Amboy piers with E44s , Used to listen to them whistle out my bedroom window as a kid as I counted them approaching the five grade crossings at Emerson, Matawan road, Main street, Summerhill road, Vliet street and Snowhill . Saw a GG1 hauling freight once on the Amboy secondary. I remember my disappointment when they scrapped the catenary.

I believe they're supposed to replace the Newark AirTrain with a more modern and efficient version in the near future. They've been talking about it for years, but I wonder if they'll keep the monorail layout? Or make it like the JFK AirTrain setup?
@Harveycartoonlvr112 жыл бұрын
Hey, friend! The South Shore Line (And I guess what you said about the North Shore Line using that horn too) "Older" MUs used those Westinghouse AA2 Horns, and some of the newer MUs still use that same horn, a number of them removed from the retired MU Cars. And you are right, I was waiting for someone else to say it, I like those Jersey Arrow MUs better than I like those SEPTA Silverliner Vs. But there in Philly, the Railfans are beginning to love them! :)

@Harveycartoonlvr112 жыл бұрын
@@3985uprr Right Off The Bat, I ENJOY your videos! I guess the ONLY thing I don't like about the Silverliner 4's is the fact that they never received the center doors (although there was a cutout on the side of the Car for it) but they are "bouncy' MU Cars, just as much as their MU predecessors. When I was in Philly and had a chance to ride them, I would enjoy the bouncing in my seat, as it went through the switches or perhaps bad track in places. I'll be glad too if SEPTA "quiets" down that paint scheme on the Silverliner Vs in a way like they did for the earlier MUs...we all know who the Trains are owned by...take a look at Denver where you will find the exact same MU Cars on their system, and not having a flashy paint scheme brings out more of the Stainless Steel beauty of the Car itself. Another example would be SEPTA's Orange Line (Broad Street) and how the agency has removed from a number of those Kawasaki Cars a lot of that Orange color from the car sides! Much of the Pennsylvania and Reading still lives on throughout Philadelphia on these rail ines, and an example of that is that "ZOO" (now Automated) Interlocking with all those "flyovers"...the Catenary supports on many of SEPTA's lines haven't changed in decades! Keep up the great Recordings, I enjoy every one! :)

What is the purpose of the platform out over track for at the Princeton
@loocpoc2 жыл бұрын
They're doing track work around Princeton. So the NJ Transit trains have to use the one in inner track. They basically are temporary platforms over the track so NJ Transit trains can stop to discharge and pick up passengers

A couple of minor corrections. We call them 'multi-level' cars on NJT, not double deckers. I've been in the cabs on NJT locomotives on the Corridor looking at the speedometer and we were doing 120mph. I'm glad you like our trains. HAPPY EASTER
@3985uprr2 жыл бұрын
I knew there was a term for those cars but I mentioned what popped into my head. I wish the windows were cleaner on those cars. I dont think we were doing even 110 on that trip. The schedule is padded. I think the running time could be a lot faster but like so many railroads lately, the schedules are loaded with extra time and even inspite of that, they run late more often than not. I am impressed with the 3900 series trains. Very fast.

MultiLevel is the model of coach. "Double decker" is a generic term. So both are correct.
