Excellent quality "Sow" Red Snapper! Yes, the deeper you go, "due west and to the northwest", the larger the ARS are. As for the deep water that Capt. James was fishing, it's a shame about the current. It's so unpredictable and I wish there was a way to figure the current(s) out along with the conventional marine forecast. There has to be a way predicting and understanding the currents far offshore..... I recall when I fished on party boats out of Panama City back over 50 years ago they used "window sash-size" 16 oz. lead weights to stay on the bottom. Their 2-day trips fished as deep as 350 feet on occasion targeting Red Snapper and grouper. But that was over 50 years ago. Dylan, Best of Luck with Red Snapper for the remainder of December. Take advantage of every day possible between now and December 31 because there will probably never be another opportunity to fish for Red Snapper in the Fall and Winter--- historically the best time of the year to catch Red Snapper (and Scamp) offshore in the eastern Gulf commercial areas.
