Not surprised to know Petey the cat had more screen time. In the books as they went on the story shifted more towards him and his relationship with lil petey. And also in the books most of the dialogue is mostly coming from the cops or other characters including petey. With dog man just being in the center around the dialogue but only just barking or something because well he is a dog.

3:30 this actually happens in the books too, Petey is given way more fleshing out and depth than Dog Man and essentially becomes a second main character. His arc in this movie is directly lifted from the books, even down to multiple scenes and dialogue being 1:1

Petey being more of a focus is actually true in the books. Dog Man really only gets a focus is in the first 2 books. Petey throughout the next 4 get more of a focus because of lil Petey opening up to his dad and making Petey a good guy.

Watched it with my son. I was dying. You just have to shut your brain off and see it from George and Harold's POV. Remember, they're 9 year olds who spout out random shit and they put it in their comics. The "logic" is 9 year old logic which makes it even funnier honestly. I'm so glad i got to experience this with my son who loved it

As someone who grew up loving Captain Underpants and then loving Dog Man growing up, this movie felt like something I've been waiting forever for and was beyond impressed with it. I think it's beautiful, and the amount of stuff from the book they were able to bring over was so cool to see. I do agree that Dog Man maybe should get got more time to shine, but Petey and his story hits so hard for me, and I'm grateful this is the message they went for. As someone who didn't grow up with a typical dad situation stories like this and the ones presented in the Kung fu panda movies always hit me hard and this had me genuinely shedding some tears which is something I didn't expect from this movie. Anyway, just having this movie existing and getting to see my little happy furry Freaky monster man on the big screen co parenting with his evil cat lover was a dream come true. I truly hope the movie does well enough to get something else Dog Man or Captain Underpants in production because I'd love to see more Dav Pilkey stuff adapted.
