All we’d like is a good AI retopology and UV mapping tool! Generative AI is very impressive as a toy that makes super generic things, but people would pay actual money for tools that solve specific problems. Sculpting whatever you can imagine is already very easy and fun on PC, iPad, and in VR!

I hope that AI can and will continue to model like this. There will be no value left if it perfects this process. That would be the best, at least. If it surpasses human creativity, it won't only be a problem for modelers, but also for those who are breaking the 3D modeling industry by only producing cheap, low-quality work. Nothing will have value anymore, and motivations will simply fade away, thanks to the greed of some people who know no limits and recklessly escalate technology further. There's a quote that always makes me think: 'Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times.' And we have arrived at good times. I hope AI will only be used as a tool for programmers and not replace creativity. I hope that AI will only be used as an assistant and small help for each industry, and let's hope that it does not surpass human value.

It will never surpass human creativity because it is based on existing human data in the first place. You can't go beyond something you are referenced from because you need consciousness to do that.

This project seems puzzling. Many similar efforts already exist, including research papers, open-source projects with code and models, and various online services. Moreover, this isn't even Nvidia's first attempt at something like this. What sets this project apart? The project page and paper lack comparisons with existing solutions, which would help clarify its unique value. Since it's an internal project, it may soon disappear from public view, and without a way for others to download and test it, its usefulness is limited. The examples don't appear significantly different from models released a year ago. For projects like this-especially when they’re inaccessible to end users, unlike more testable projects like image or video generation-it's essential to have an established, widely-accepted benchmark to gauge performance. Without that, it’s difficult for the research community or end users to grasp its actual impact.

Ironic how Nvidia stood on the shoulders of game developers to be able to rise to relevance in the 90s - only to start coming for their jobs first.
@johnthunder9623 күн бұрын
@@AalapShah12297 The reality is it's overhyped, we're still far from actual replacements. Assets for shows and movies still have to be modeled. Sure you can grab a coca cola can from skrtchfab but you can't grab something specific that is pivotal. For the cars that they've showcased in this video, the wheels cannot even spin because the geometry is one. It makes it practically useless. The industry will recover in the coming years but lest we forget in times like these it's highly unstable, and possibly will happen again.

Bro there's already 3D models of everything you can imagine already on sale on online markets, and techniques like photogrammetry are also used to take real life objects into 3D scenes. The thing is that clients pay for specificity not genericness... So really something that has an Identity corresponding to the client's precise needs. And 3D works aren't just about having objects alone, there's also the composition of it all, the placement of those objects, wear and tear, lighting, rigging for functionality... I mean most independent game developers have been using pre-made assets for like forever now, and even professional 3D modellers rarely start from scratch now especially in a production setting...

Great work on the papers. But people want to have a viable website that we can use to check out. Or if it was open source, a way to use such model ourselves. Anyways, great work from nvidia as always.

i)Am i using the technology or is it using me? ii) What exact problem is this solving? Ai doing Retopology yes symbiotic way of working.. Big corps ai model trained on human workers 3d asset library of work so human creators not needed. U can argue great for exploration banging out concepts.. but its not just about ethics. in an ideal world has to be symbiotic commensalistic relationship.

As a 3d artist myself, I'd say that the market initially created CG to solve production problems. Nothing have changed, nowadays everyone is trying to lead that market by optimizing it, nothing wrong with it. All in all it's all about business from the beginning, it's a job and nobody really care how do you feel about it, and they don't have to tbh. Those props are lack of details tho, and even if they'll manage to fix this issue, there still gonna be a niche market, just like some blacksmiths and painters have, people appreciate hand made craft that is not just a random good looking thing but unique piece of art which have a story behind it.
