Why not try altering the design so that it kind of wraps around the rim. So adjust it To make it round and have flaps or something kind of go around the edge of the rim so they self lock? Imagine it like an € inside the tire piece but with little lips that wrap around the tire?

Those holes in the middle of the sections are good points to put zip ties looped to the rim without rubbing the zip ties to the ground, that would've held that thing up better

I’ve got a tip. Forget about covering the tire. That’s obviously failing. Turning is one of the most important features in a tire. You should design a full bike tire that uses this method. And you could probably also charge less for them.

While it's downsides are pretty major, I'm looking at 2 aspects of this thing. 1)as an emergency set in the case of a blow out, these would be lightweight emergency tire. 2) it would take a new bike rim design, but could one be made in conjunction with this (or an upgraded design of this) which better locks the pieces in place, allowing for better general turns? (And before people say "new rim design would mean you can't use traditional tires and inner tunes", it can be designed in such a way, long as its planned in advance)
