How does it compare to PVA? I use a mixture of wood glue (which contains PVA) and water and don't need to heat my printbed when printing PLA. The adhesion in my experience is better compared to magigoo glue stick and even vision miner nano polymer (which seems to need a heated bed)! Only downside is it leaves white residue on the print, which PVP shouldn't? Also how often do you need to replace it? With wood glue/water mixture it lasts many prints, I only need to wipe it every now and then with warm water sponge to renew the adhesion.
@V.Perinski10 ай бұрын
PVP is a component used to make a wide range of adhesives. And yes, that glue leaves a white residue too, but it can be cleaned off. I don't know what PVA is made of. A glue stick is PVP+microcellulose for example.

hi, very good & simple video, what can be the other uses of PVP K-30? Can it be used as a water repellent for fabric water proofing? Is this adhesive? Pls reply, thanks
@V.PerinskiАй бұрын
PVP K-30 (povidone) is most commonly used as a binder, film-former, and stabilizer in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. It’s water-soluble, so it wouldn’t work as a water-repellent for fabrics - quite the opposite, it tends to attract and retain water. As for its adhesive properties, PVP does have some adhesive characteristics, which is why it’s used in certain types of adhesives (like in cosmetics or medical applications). However, for serious waterproofing or bonding tasks, other specialized materials are usually preferred.
@IamAli89Ай бұрын
@@V.Perinski thank you for the detailed reply :), any suitable material you can suggest for waterproofing?
@V.PerinskiАй бұрын
@@IamAli89 Hydrophobic liquids typically consist of chemical compounds that create a water-repellent layer on the surface of materials. The main components of such liquids often include: 1. Fluorinated polymers (e.g., polytetrafluoroethylene, known as Teflon) - these form an ultra-thin film that lowers surface tension, causing water droplets to roll off the surface. 2. Silicones (e.g., polydimethylsiloxane) - flexible and durable compounds that can form a strong hydrophobic film on various materials, including textiles. Silicone compounds have good water-repellent properties and can be applied as liquids or sprays. 3. Nanoparticles of metal oxides (e.g., silicon dioxide or titanium dioxide) - often part of nanohydrophobic coatings. These particles create a microscopically rough surface that minimizes contact between water and the material, enhancing the water-repellent effect. 4. Alkanes and alkylsilanes - hydrocarbon compounds commonly used in hydrophobic coatings to create a non-polar surface that repels water. These substances can work individually or in combination, forming micro- and nanostructures on the surface that prevent water from penetrating the material, causing droplets to bead up and roll off.

I just received my Pen. Thank you for that recommendation. Would you say that it is better at sticking to or applying than the PVP Glue stick mixture?
@V.Perinski Жыл бұрын
In addition to the PVP itself, the glue stick contains other additives, perhaps microcellulose as a filler. And it leaves white stains on dark plastics. But PVP is completely transparent and you control the glue concentration yourself.

Hair spray can contain polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as an active ingredient. PVP is a polymer that is used in many hair products such as hairsprays, gels, mousses, and other styling and fixation aids. But in my example, you can use any concentration of PVP for use with different surfaces of a 3D printer.

@@V.Perinski Yes, a cheap can of Aqua Net only costs $2.99. It sprays on easy and comes off easy after the print with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol for a nice clean bed.
