In this video I print, finish and paint a 1/6 scale probe droid model designed by Build It And They Will Come (see their site below). I printed this on my Creality CR-10. See below for coupons and affiliate links for all of the CR-10 models.

Wow, you found rocks walking around outside? I think you missed a viral video on that one! LOL JK. The print looks amazing and I am with you on the sanding. But honestly some layer lines don't look incredibly out of place on a metal robot. Smooth and shiny has is place but for a beat up old probe droid, imperfections just add character.

That would indeed be awesome! I have done similar things with custom painted action figures in the past. The only issue is getting the models, since there aren't any models for a lot of those things (or at least good models that would work in a diorama).

turned out lovely! the snow on the base is very nicely done! if i subscribe to build it and they will come, do we get the back catalog too?
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 жыл бұрын
At the moment anyway, the way it works is that each month subscribers get one main model and one bonus model (often a multi-part model that will span several months, like the Probe Droid). You also get access to the "Subscriber's Cargo Hold" where you can buy previous models for around the price previous subscribers paid (usually around 9.99 pounds). Also, they don't want people just coming in and buying a few models, canceling, and then coming back later when something else they want is added, so once you quit you can't rejoin. If you're used to free models, this can seem a little expensive, but compared to most artists who are selling their models a la cart, it's actually pretty cheap. As I said, I don't work for them or anything, so if you have any questions you can try asking them on Facebook or their website.
@DMonZ1988
@DMonZ1988 6 жыл бұрын
Mighty Jabba's Collection ok, thank you. I imagined something like that when I asked. Makes sense, and it's totally reasonable, but I'm not sure it's for me. There's so much free stuff out there, I think I'd prefer to donate he and there if I really love something, and in general I feel like I should learn to model myself, haha. Fantastic print and project though, so I'm glad they're getting some support for their trouble. The whole star warsiness of their collection does make it very tempting.

What a brilliant print! If I might say, I’d have done all the sanding before putting it together. You also could have added some lighting. It’s still amazing. Do you mind me asking what scale it works out as for the final print?
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think I may have mentioned that I could've done that a bit differently. I don't actually know what the scale is, but I think it could probably pass for 1/6
@vipermark7
@vipermark7 3 жыл бұрын
Mighty Jabba's Collection Yeah. Sorry if that came across as a dig. I didn’t mean it that way at all. I’m in awe of 3D printing. I scratchbuild models by hand, but 3D printing looks to be so versatile. I was thinking it was looking close to 1/6. I’m doing the prep work right now for a 1/6 snowspeeder. It’s going to be a monster in 1/6! I mocked it up in cardboard first to make sure I have the sizes right and it’s huge!(Despite being one of the smallest SW craft!)

I don't really know -- that is a change they made later on and I'm not familiar with the details. I do know that they are concerned about people reselling/sharing the models and have been pretty proactive about managing who they let in (to the point of being a bit paranoid about it TBH), but I don't know if that is a separate issue.
