Holy smokes. Thanks for this. I was trying to use planes at an angle trying to make a hole for a hinge on an airplane elevator. This saved me.

Learned something new today (3d sketch) thank you! Only thing I would have done different is after drawing the line with 3d sketch, do a plane along path on that line so then I could sketch any shape on that plane to extrude through the rectangle.

Thank you :) This caused a bit of a headache since it wasn't as straightforward as one might think. For the record the issue I had was 1. I tried to use the hole tool which only does perpendicular holes to surfaces 2. I extruded the pipe instead of pulling which joins the pipe to the body

Hey this was great! I needed to put a hole through a circular clamp and wasnt sure on the exact angle I needed, I was messing about with plane at an angle and couldnt get the right angle. I didnt think about using the pipe command, I did it easily using a midpoint plane then drew the line I needed... Thanks again! Just subscribed to your channel.

Ha! OK, so I needed help preparing a 3d printed part for my next bot and came across this. It's funny b/c we actually fought 3lb bots at Norwalk a few months ago (I drove Iron Wing). Anyway, hope to see you at the next one! And thanks for the video!

This helps a lot, however, I am trying to get this where the hole edges aren't angled in there as I am trying to plasma cut a plate out. Any help is appreciated.

I thought you were going to use a plane at angle. But the way you did it is much more adjustable in future iterations. Thanks Vlad.

Thanks, very easy to follow and a useful technique. I have a potential topic for you. I would like to make a tube with a pattern of small holes in the wall of the tube. The holes should be in a spiral pattern around the tube. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again for the videos!

what if you wanted a specific angle for the hole to travel through the body?

Spline line also works and so angled hole looks better like a circle.

If it is not a pipe, but a custom design, how do you do that? I have a "X" axis slanted rectangle, and I am trying to "cut" the center out of it, but a custom shape. When I extrude the shape, it does not "angle" to the body of the rectangle, but extends straight out.

Hi Vlad, Swami here. Late to the party, but here's another way: uses 'EXTRUDE', and 'Extent Type>All'... - Create line however you want. BTW, I did 'CONSTRUCT>Axis Through Two points', which was easier than using '3D Sketch', but alas, downstream 'CONSTRUCT>Plane Along Path' does not accept construction axis:( That said, 'CONSTRUCT>Plane at Angle' does accept construction axis, so was able to use that to get the line. But whatever - once you have the line... - Create 'CONSTRUCT>Plane Along Path' w/ 'Distance Type>Proportional: 0.5' (or whatever, actually). - Create sketch on that plane; create circle. - Do 'EXTRUDE>Direction>Two Sides' w/ 'Extent Type>All' for both. The 'All' part is the significant difference from your 'Pipe'/extended approach. This also will dynamically adjust as box changes dimensions. - Which is better? Depends on the measure of better, I guess. - Anyhow, like you said: more than one way - so, I shared another way. Plus, I scanned the comments, but didn't see any other offers. - OK, keep up the great content. - Till next time...

P.S. Just hit me why 'Plane Along Path' doesn't accept construction axis (it's a line, not line segment): feature is based on parametric equation of a line segment (math-wise, not F360/3D CAD-wise): distance along line is parametrized by 't' (which relates to the 'Proportional' in the feature). So, the issue is that, apparently, the construction axis is a line (i.e. infinite: no end points), not a line segment... MATH! P.S. I'm a math teacher 8-)
@swamihuman9395
@swamihuman9395 3 жыл бұрын
FUN FACT ABOUT 'PARAMETRIC EQUATIONS': They can describe how a point travels along a curve in time, which is why 't' is often used (as I did above). So, for a given curve, a point can move along it differently in time: start slow; ramp up till end - or start fast, ramp down till end - or whatever. Now, t can also represent the proportion along the path, which is how it's often used in 2D/3D apps (including w/ splines). OK, hopefully you, +/or others will find this interesting... and if you do, you're a nerd! :D

And, YET ANOTHER WAY... - Create construction plane w/ normal angled thru cube. - Create sketch point on plane. - Apply 'Hole' feature. - Done:) Goes all the way thru, both sided, every time.

This is not right! All HOLES you must make using command "Hole", because it's not cheese, and usually you must make holes by Standard ISO, ANSI... In this case you must make Work Plane perpendicular to hole's direction
