This was the best review of this product I have seen online. Just food for thought,you discussed about the akward keyboard buttons placed on the left side of the mouse, Escape , shift, etc.You talked about how the buttons are akward to engage of your hand never let the main the control "you had to learn new hand yoga moves". Well I actually think the designers didn't actually users to do that, but to actually, move your hand off the main control and Hit one of the buttons with a ring or middle finer instead of your pinky. The reason is, although you may actually move your hand to reach them comfortably, it is still a much more valuable option than having to more your hand all the way to the keyboard to use them. I agree with your comment about them not being able to design and make the human hand work around the mouse it self. And I think that Hit it head on but the main goal, like you also said, is to keep all the critical keys In HANDS reach instead of an ARMS reach. I just ordered this. And really excited to use it. I do more 2D than 3D 50%-45%, but using the hot key settings and having the esc enter and space button on the mouse is a big time saver and it will keep me from moving all over. I use a trackball as a mouse so I don't have any hot keys on my mouse to eliminate reach. But now I'll be firing on all cylinders. You sold me on it.

Excellent video! I've been looking at the Enterprise level 3D mouse for awhile. I just about missed the giant savings involved with ordering the controller if it were not your video! Planned for $399 (US Dollars) for the controller alone and thanks to you, ordered the Enterprise Kit. Same Controller, Cad Mouse, Cad Pad, and Dual USB Port for $30 more! Fantastic! Thank you so much!

Regarding backup concerns 12:31 Logitech Harmony TV remote controls have have configuration backup when a USB cable connected to the PC. This should have been done so long ago for the 3DConnexion devices. It already connected to your computer with their driver running. The driver should have an easy backup configuration button so safe the XML file to your desired archive! Port the file to another machine and bam your 3DConnexion devise setting are mirrored and ported easily to any workstation you take your device to! Really stupid how major companies are quicker to realize these kinds of efficiencies. No cloud integration or online database services need. Just save the hard configuration file to the users desired archive. Flop it on a USB stick and keep in in your go bag so you can update it to any workstations as needed. Simple and 3DCponnexion doesn't have to support all this.

It's worth noting that the context-sensitive stuff only integrates with Fusion/Inventor and maybe Solidworks - apparently 3dconnexion leaves it to the software manufacturers to do that work, and the Inventor/Fusion teams are the only ones to do it at Autodesk so far. My dreams of an amazing revit controller are slightly dashed... until that driver support impoves. When it does, it'll be pretty amazing!

I always keep backup of the configuration files in dropbox. So when I reinstall system or move between computers I just copy config files back to the right place. I started doing it when I needed to manually change the xml file as I use rotation from forward/backward zoom direction and use pan directions from up/down zoom direction. I feel this more natuaral so that zoom is up and down and pan is on same plane however I Like the rotation like I am holding the model.

Hey man, First off great review. Small question: How is the feel of the function buttons? I know that the buttons (especially the function buttons 1-4) on the SpacemMouse Pro were very mushy, hard to press and in general unresponsive. Is that also the case for the SpaceMouse Enterprise? Cheers
@Barboron8 жыл бұрын
I recently got one of the SpaceMouse Pro recently from my boss (They had them lying around the office and nobody was using them). Really enjoy it although I found myself enjoying it so much, it's been a bit of a distraction. I just wish there was more customization to this to allow it to be used for gaming too, namely the space navigator.

@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
The sensor is the same, you just get much more buttons and customisation with the Enterprise. So they're identical when it comes to zooming and panning and moving a 3D model, but for creating shortcuts etc the Enterprise is much more flexible and powerful

can someone give advice as to how to get this to work if im using SW by remote desktop? i have already checked the box to enable local device connection. i see 3D connexion in the SW add-ins but the space mouse just is not responding. i am about to return it. But it would make my job so much easier if i can get it to work.
@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Z it's not gonna work over remote desktop I don't think, the 3dconnexion driver needs to be installed on the CAD system and will be looking for a locally installed device, it can't communicate back to a remote system. Are you using Microsoft remote desktop? I can ask the 3dconnexion guys if they know of any software which will support this

TFI I've already spoken to them and they say there is nothing they can do. I was hoping someone found a work around. it recognizes it but it is quirky and doesn't give any shortcut functions like when installed locally. Thanks!

I'll make it crystal clear if I ever get paid to advertise something. If I appear to be saying how good this thing is, it's because it is, this is a CAD channel and that's a CAD tool.
@amatiasq8 жыл бұрын
Did you pay for the product?
@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
Why is that relevant.
@amatiasq8 жыл бұрын
I thought it was obvious but if I have to explain... First: Because everything is awesome if you don't have to pay for it. I have no doubt this tool gives at least a small improvement once you get used to it. But the question I have is: does that improvement worth $300? I don't think you can answer that question because it's not the same thinking on $300 than actually putting it on the table. I've been thinking on buying this product for a few years now and every time I think it may worth it but only when payment form comes to my eyes I realize that it is quite a big amount. Second and I have to clarify this is just general example because I don't know you or your practice at all: Let's say company A sends you one of their product and you write a bad review about it. They of course will think it twice before they send you a product again. But they will of course send more products to the ones who give them good reviews. So the relation between gift products and good reviews is direct, that's a kind of advertising. Now if you payed for it and say it's great and awesome I'll take your review seriously. But giving that you showed three versions of the product I was pretty sure they were gift products and that I wasn't going to hear the downsides of the product here.
@amatiasq8 жыл бұрын
Just to be clear, I'm not saying that you're lying, advertising can be honest. But for me gift products are clearly advertising.

@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Peter Pirz It's a luxury item, I couldn't say anybody 'needs' this, you can still get your work done with the wireless 2 button spacemouse. You could also argue that the more stuff thrown onto it, more buttons, LCD screen etc it's more things to potentially go wrong in the future. Dead pixels, faulty connections, sticky buttons, you won't get any of that with the simple original spacemouse!
@wareznorth8 жыл бұрын
The wireless version should include Bluetooth cause it's annoying that my single USB port on my surface pro 4 has to have that stupid micro receiver in there all the time, rant over
@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Peter Pirz I promise that I don't earn commission from any of this but 3DConnexion sell that 2 port USB splitter...? Or could you not get a cheap portable generic USB splitter?
@wareznorth8 жыл бұрын
Haha no commission, I only mentioned it cause I know they're watching lol ya hear that 3dconnexion give us Bluetooth damn it... I'm probably the only guy doing CAD in my recliner on a surface pro 4, the problem with the micro receiver isn't so much that it takes up my one USB port, it has more to do with it not sitting flush with any laptop you plug it into, it sticks out and can get bumped easily and destroy the USB port, happened to me.

The spacepilot pro was much better than this dumbed down POS. The LCD on this is next to useless. The top number keys are in a very bad location. Trying to push them without hitting the joystick is nearly impossible. If you hit the joystick when attempting this it renders the button pushing ineffective. Next the The angle of the LCD makes it very difficult to see the lcd. All of the other buttons are placed so close together that it is very difficult to memorize their location. You have to feel around for a while to get it right. Once in a while the drivers jam up. How do you fix it? Unplug it and plug in the spacepilot pro, then unplug that and replug in the space mouse. This reinitializes the drivers. Unfortunately, Logifuckingtech bought 3DC and they no longer support the LCD drivers for the Spacepilot pro, forcing us to upgrade, or, shall I say, downgrade?

@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Imyach Fomilev Ohhhhh I got you, I understand. I can totally see your point but there's no way they can ever put mechanical switches into a 3D mouse, it'll never happen. I've got them in that Blackwidow keyboard and I've seen all the reviews of the others with Cherry MX's in, and absolutely nobody would buy this thing for a professional office if it had mech switch buttons. The noise would be a deal breaker. They might sell a few to some enthusiast home users, but the majority of their sales are to professional offices who would send them back once they heard the ridiculous clicking of a mechanical switch! You can't have that going on in an office!

+Imyach Fomilev I've watched hundreds of mechanical keyboard reviews, I've never seen a 'quiet' mechanical keyboard... can you link a review of a quiet one? Genuinely if there is a switch out there which is quiet enough to be feasible in an office, I'll feed that back to 3DConnexion as the buttons do have room for improvement.

@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Shubham Patankar Haha I knew which video you were linking there before I even clicked the link, I remember watching that a couple of weeks ago. I don't see why not, although I'm not sure if I could fill a normal keyboard and a second keyboard with shortcuts for something like Inventor? To make it worthwhile you'd probably end up creating shortcuts for buttons you don't even ever use? Or can you think of a good use case for it?
@Phynix728 жыл бұрын
+TFI CAD Tips Good catch. At first, thanks for response. Actually, I've two reasons for that DIY. when you can do something that is more practically & economically more useful rather than paying a 3-4 digit bill, then why wouldn't anybody do it. Another aspect is that almost of viewers here are beginners who can't afford it so they can do it to save money for another good reasons like setting up multiple displays, or get a better GPU, or buy new software.
@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Shubham Patankar I suppose, but I'd argue the primary reason for buying this is for the 3D mouse controller, the 31 buttons are just a bonus for those who have a bit extra money to play with... getting a second keyboard isn't going to offer you the 3D controller. You could buy the cheaper entry level 3D mouse which has 2 buttons, and then get a DIY shortcut keyboard, but then you've got your normal keyboard a 3D mouse and a DIY keyboard... and only 2 hands haha and a busy desk! But hey it sounds like a good idea still, I might investigate, might make for a neato video

@Zhiznestatistiks7 жыл бұрын
No. What you demonstrated is an incredible design flaw. Having such an awful egonomic, unfamiliar key shape on such a pricy device is an outrage. Awful ergnomic and lack of additional buttons is what makes 3d mouses such an unappreciated device, and the reason why logitech needs to go to such length to upt put different ergonomic articles and investment return calculators. If they just put 6dof controller in center of something like g13 everyone will be happy.
