In this video we show what happens when the flywheel bolts on a 2012 Sea Doo RXP-X 260 fail. This was likely due to the rev limiter being removed without an upgrade to the flywheel bolts.

Beautiful to watch. My 2012 rxpx260 did the same thing, snapped bloody flywheel bolts but my engine was toast and so I sold it to a guy that raced jetskis. I had it for two years from new and it had 250 hrs on it and was modified with a vtechtune 8350 rpm , solas impeller and an aftermarket intake grate. My advice is unless modifying properly then don't do it , it hurts too much🤬

So I paused this video to get the part number off the package for the ARP bolts. I then order me up a pack, go to install them and that's when I noticed ITS A PACK OF 5!!! Thinking I must have ordered the wrong bolts I rewatched this video and to my surprise you showed a pack of 5.

I see you picked up that engine by yourself and carried it to your shop!! I have a 2010 Sea-Doo challenger with the two Rotax 1503 215hp. I they are the same engine as the RXP? Seeing you lift that one makes me think that I may be able to just unbolt and pull the engine out without an actual engine hoist? - knowing my lower back may complain for the next week 🤣

Yes. Before they went to a 300 HP engine, they were all basically the same Rotax engine. Chris is pretty strong, so unless you’re at least as big as him I wouldn’t try it. I think they’re about 250 lbs. You really need an engine hoist to do a safe job. I can’t imagine pulling it out of a hull without a hoist!

You guys make great videos, between camera angles to see exactly what your doing to information about products your using and torque settings. Awesome stuff. One question, where do you get all the parts from ? I have a service manual for mine but the specific part numbers are not labeled? Is there a website that i can input my VX110 to give me a list of replacement parts for inside the engine?

Thanks, Roam! We get a lot of our parts from a nearby Sea-Doo dealer friend (who gives us a break on price). When we don’t feel we need to go with OEM parts, we often order from SBT. We got some of our tools from them. We even get some more rare items through eBay (some tools, impeller gague, etc.). When looking for part numbers, we go to the Parts Catalog on Sea-Doo’s website. We haven’t bought much stuff from Yamaha, but you can try Partzilla.com for those parts (see www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/waverunner). Good luck.

So is this a problem that seadoo is aware of? Guessing it’s not covered under a warranty. Makes me scared to buy a 300 engine

Not to worry, Ben. It’s not a 300 HP machine and was likely due to some modifications that were made by the previous owner.

Hey! Just got a 13 rxpx 260. Has a vtech stage 1 tune, never turns over 8200rpm. Is this ok with no other supporting mods? Have a fizzle f1000 intercooler, and flame arrestor removed. Have heard stock limiter is 8040, so assumed a bit more is ok on stock valvetrain. Thank you!

I wouldn't take the chance. If you mess with the rev limiter, you should upgrade the flywheel bolts. Don't take the chance. Good luck.

I have a gtx 185. there is gold/bronze particles in the oil filter and my mechanic suspects it to possibly be the bolts. The ski is bone stock its whole life. There is also signs of the engine being pulled before and we have no clue how old the filter is (My old mechanic never changed the filter). Any clue why they could possibly be failing on a stock machine?

The most common failure on older machines is the supercharger. What year is your machine? Has your supercharger been rebuilt within the last 200 hours or 5 years?

@@3ftDeepChannel 2003 GTX 185, charger rebuilt with the 200 hour kit its currently sitting at around 180 ish hours and its going in for a charger inspection and if needed soft or full rebuild.

Have you checked the compression? Has there been any more flakes in the oil filter since you changed it?

What year did the bottom case bolts become stretch bolts?

If those bottom case bolts were stretch bolts wouldn’t they have a degree on them. When I did my 04 1503 I don’t remember anywhere in the manual it stating the case bolts need to be replaced. Just about every other bolt is a stretch but not the main case bolts.

You raise a good point. I just checked our service manual for a 2003 GTX and although it calls for the torque tightening followed by the angles, it doesn’t require new bolts, which suggests they’re not true stretch bolts. Not sure if/when there was a change.

@@3ftDeepChannel so on this model they are stretch bolts and call for being replaced? That’s just crazy if it does a 1503 is a 1503 they really didn’t change too much between the years.

@@DennisSwanson517 The lower case bolts are not stretch bolts and can be reused since this machine had some modifications to increase power we decided to replace them since the additional cost was minimal compared to the overall repair cost. The service manuals do change slightly over the years the earlier manuals said the head bolts could be reused if they didn't exceed a certain length the later manuals call for replacement.

Never, ever, ever remove or alter the rev limiter on your Supercharged Sea-Doo without upgrading your flywheel bolts at the same time!
