Thanks Chris for these three key tips to stop pulling irons shots. I have struggled with my irons by swing over the top. Your tips have helped me to hit straighter iron shots and thereby feel more comfortable using my irons. Stay safe and healthy.

Hi Chris the instruction at 3:11 has done it for me. I tried it yesterday and the consistency of my draw shots was amazing. That slight change made was key. THANK YOU very much

The slow motion video sections are really useful. I would like to see more of these as they help to see the points you have made put into practice.

Very much food for thought, such a concise explanation. I have noticed the scratch marks on the base of my clubs are across (suggesting an out to in swing path) Keen now to try your advice.

Arch in the lead wrist did it for me. I went to the range and proceeded to hit hooked shot after hook shot. Then I got my hips turning before my shoulders and I'd either push it right or hit it straight. I tend to hit off the toe of the driver and had a massive slice on occasion. Now as long as I arch that lead wrist and fire with my hips all is good. I'm even seeing a slight draw every once in a while. Thanks for this tip. For some reason it finally made me pay attention to the arch in my wrist.

Hi Chris, how do you stop your left foot from spinning out? (right handed golfer). Any drills would be appreciated. thanks Kev

That shows a lot. I will have to try that out and I will let you know how it turns out. I have always been left to right ball path. The last two years I have corrected my irons but like you showed no power but it is going at the target. thanks

Great video, that's my main problem with my longer irons and especially the driver.

Chris, I can accomplish all three of those positions/movements. However, I get too "shoulder-y" on the downswing one instructor told me years ago...my right shoulder starts outward. A video on the role of the right shoulder on the downswing would be great.

Chris, curious on your thoughts on feeling as if your right elbow is falling in close to your side on the downswing...Good/Bad??

My key is to make sure, on the backswing, that my right (trail) hip moves back from the target line. This lets me set up for a more inside to out downswing.

Is checking the general direction of my divot, (especially when at the range and I have a divot 'patch'), an accurate indicator of whether or not I am swinging left?

Chris. Almost everyone demonstrates ball position and pure irons from the one plane (Ben Hogan) point of view. I would like to see the two plane (Jack Nicklaus) point of view.

I miss my slice now that I've been hooking it badly! I have to relearn to swing left to balance things out. Too much of anything is a bad thing.

Exactly, but at least you now have the tools to move the ball both ways, just a case now of finding the happy medium.

Where did the fetish for straight or draws come from? I just saw a vid of a TV show with all kinds of past pros saying they'd take a fade over a draw any time and that Hogan wanted a fade - to eliminate the left side of a hole. Why are we always being coached into a draw? I naturally fade when I hit the ball well. Just a 5 - 10 yard fade on a driver and up to 5 yards on irons. This doesn't feel bad but why do coaches say it is? I've tried to draw but just hook/pull it to hell - to be fair that's probably ball position but I do like the flight of a fade.

Hi Streven, I completely agree with you, I am working towards hitting a fade shot myself. These videos are aimed at the average golfer, and trends show us that many of these swing the club too far to the left, so the video was addressing those issues. As I said I agree with you that many golfers play well with, and actually prefer a fade. I have never claimed in any of my videos that draw shots are 'better' or that every golfer should work towards this shape. Plenty of videos on my channel for golfers who over draw their shots too. Thanks for the comments through.

+ChrisRyanGolf Hi Chris, that's cool. I was noticing how often the focus is on drawing across the youtube golf vids and so was feeling like the "draw" mantra was very heavy in the sense that the subtext for so many is to aim for a draw. I started off slicing (on the driver more than anything) but have now managed to rein it into a fade and I think I'd need to nearly rebuild my swing to consistently draw (although short irons aren't too hard to do that if I concentrate on making it shape like that). Your vids are terrific, by the way, I should have said that initially! No criticism intended, just a genuine question and I understand that catering to the majority of players out there is the best thing to do with these vids. :-)
