I purposefully bought the 3rd generation Tacoma for the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) engine. Historically a NA engine will outlast a Turbo engine. The new Turbo engine has the same power, but has more low end torque. We normally keep our vehicles a very long time, so buying a pickup with the NA engine was the right choice for us. Also on the 3rd generation Tacoma, eventually you’ll need to install an “add a leaf” to your rear suspension, as the leaf springs tend to sag if you use your truck for any type of hauling. The Add a Leaf will also increase the rear of your Tacoma by 1” - 1.5”. Or you can install adjustable air shocks.

Every morning I climb into the cab of a company owned 2019 Tacoma. I have been trying to break this thing for 5 years about 150.000 miles. Nothing. Just oil, breaks & tires. It won't die. It is driven hard everyday all day long. Including a 30 mile trip up and over the Ortega mountain twice a day. All that just to say . Get one.

I had plenty of opportunities to buy the exact 4th gen tacoma in any build I wanted w/ invoice pricing. I tried multiple out, but in the end I chose to buy a 3rd gen tacoma. I took one test ride and it was night and day better. Love the v6, turning radius compared to the new models and reliability. It feels nimble, its predictable offroad. No waiting for the turbo, no constant beeping. No issues. A simple get up and go truck.

I did a 12 hour drive to Orlando in my 23 tacoma. I thought it was fine. With OTT it holds 6th gear doing 80mph no problem. Smooth and quiet on the interstate at that speed.

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I put it on around 6k miles. I have 17k+ miles now. Also mine is a Mexican made tacoma. I had a small transfer case seal leak and a front body mount squeaking. Both fixed under warranty. Other than that I haven't had any problems. I know it says the payload is 900 something pounds but you can find plenty examples of these hauling loads WAY beyond that.

We took my 23 TRD to MT this past May. The speed limit in MT is 80. I set the cruise on 88mph and I was still getting 22mpg. I don’t know if the TRD Performance exhaust system does anything but with the OTT and the cold air intake certainly helps

I doubt the TRD cat back does anything. My old Supercharged FJ had one of those on it, and it didn’t even seem to sound that loud or better than what I assumed the stock one sounded like. But idk. 🤷♂️

I absolutely Love my 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, long bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs. It’s White with Black Leather interior. I don’t like the black interior, so we’re saving up to have Katzkin make and install Lava Red Leather seats with black trim and stitching. It will match very well with the 2 toned exterior paint in Barcelona Red. After buying it, I immediately installed a cold air intake and the Overland Torque Tune, (OTT). The OTT increases the horsepower and torque by 25. The Torque use to come on at 3,800 RPM, but now kicks in at 2,300 RPM. The OTT and cold air intake also gives me 1-3 Better mpg, while giving my TRD 318 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque. I’m very glad that I purchased it and plan on driving it until my death. I’m quite sure that after I’m gone, my wife will still be using it to plow our private road of the 5-7 feet of snow we get every winter.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 ай бұрын
Those Katakins are going to look great! I’m also suprised at how much the CAI and tune have helped. I think a couple years ago the Magnuson superchargers also became available for these. But that likely defeats some of the reliability which is the point of these trucks. Very cool either way, and getting to drive this one made me miss my formerly owned Tacomas just a little bit more lol.
