+Carlo Campanella The power supply for the Vtx, yes you do else connect the cables from the camera and Vtx directly to the pins of the MinimOSD. Power depends on the kit you're using.

Here's a tip if anyone has driver issues Device Manager -> Right click on Prolific-to-Serial Comm Port and select Update Driver Software…. In Update Driver Software window chose: Browse my computer for driver software -> Let mi pick from list of devices on my computer, Select Prolific USB-to_Serial Comm Port version 3.3.2.105 model [10/27/2008] from model list and click next.

Hi. Can't explain how extraordinary your videos are. Just an excellent job. Thank you. Question: I bought a pair of MinimOSD modules and of course a guy doesn't know what to avoid until he has the stuff to dig in. I ended up with the KV Team type though. I keep seeing fleeting mention on several sites about using it with CC3D or not being able to use it, but there are no details. I'm just trying to nail down for sure whether the KV Team OSD will or will not work with the CC3D. If it doesn't I'll deal with it. But if it does, I'm new and sure could use a learned hand to point to the place I need to go to see how to make it work. Long story longer, when I hook mine up and follow your recipe to the letter (which I didn't expect to work after hearing your caveat about the KV), I can get the camera image to flow through but absolutely no text from the OSD. Loading firmware and fonts goes fine. Connections are correct and I've always triple checked before powering up. Solder blobs are jumped as you described. Is it the KV Team board that is the problem? I tried all this with the minimOSD-extra version with the same result. Thanks for any help.

TyroneDamShewlaces The CC3D MinimOSD needs to talk MAVLink, the code that supports the KV mods on the MinimOSD doesn't support MAVLink - so it will not work. I believe that the KV team modified MinimOSD has some different pins (?) so that may be your problem, you would be very unlucky to get two damaged ones. I would order the right board for the job and next time you are considering something, come and look it up on the channel ;) Less heartache that way :) :) Best of luck!

At 13:15 you mentioned how this firmware wouldn't work with the MinimOSD's that have the battery voltage pads on the side. If that's the case, which firmware would work? I'm trying out the firmware you showed for now to see what happens, but I'd like to know just in case it doesn't work.

Not sure, you'll need a firmware that supports MAVLink for the CC3D and supports the KV_Team modified MinimOSD too. That will be listed in the firmware notes... Best of luck!

Great video as always! So speaking of osd. I just recieved a 700tvl fpv cam from ebay. It claims that it has an osd adjustment screen but theres no info anywhere on how to access it. Its a great little camera but its sensitivity to light needs help. Do you have any tips or mabe interested in taking such a task on? The only info i can find is advice to access it via arduino uno or mega.......? Thanx!!!

Please note this unit does not support flight battery voltage display. The OP OSD does is available though and does offer battery monitoring from what I understand. Mine is ordered from Banggood but isn't here yet.

Could you show a diagram of how the Micro should be connected to the FTDI. Does it need to be powered on the video side to during flashing? if so which pads need 5v for it to work? I cooked my first Micro and my Naze along with it... so I had a spare CC3D, figured I would just setup my 210 with it.

Hi Painless.. Everything worked great.. I tried switching the Video transmitter module to an ImmersionRC.. now video works but no overlay. It worked with the old Video transmitter.. Any thoughts? Most of my builds use ImmersionRC TX and FatShark goggles

+Dagh Hav That does seem odd as the Vtx shouldn't make any difference. I'd investigate the power system on the craft and make sure that the 5v lines are all keeping up their voltage..

I have a question about my fpv current build. I have a 12v camera and a 12v transmitter. these will be hooked to my pdd. I want to run a microminium OSD. it will be hooked into my 5v from the PDD. Can I hook up just 1 video in and 1 video out without hooking up the grounds. (camera and TX grounded through 12v harness).

That should work, try it and see. I'd connect the 5v supply needed by the MinimOSD to the GND on the PDB too. Best of luck!

HI, with the FTDI (?sp) or the MinimOSD has failed to operate. I was getting red and a green lite and a high speed indicator on the amber lite (area of the GRN) . Setting the OSD to operate I should be ready to go...but....no joy......and the "error opening com port". As of the moment the red/green lites have failed. I would guess that the Minimosd has failed. Any thoughts??? Paul

If you're not getting a COM port assigned automatically then you need to look at the driver and contact the vendor of the FTDI board for help. Best of luck!

Hi slightly off topic but I e been looking to make my own breakout cables. I found the DuPont connectors and crimps but wonder where you get your multicoloured wires from?

Simon Cope I have a box of bits and cut wire from previous projects that I keep handy (never throw bits of thin wire away in this hobby!). The CC3D is usually supplied with the connectors for the MAIN and AUX ports along with the connector for the receiver.. If not then eBay is great for nice thin wire if you can't find a nice Cat5/telcom cable to cannibalise. Hope this helps.

+Dagh Hav All the steps we took are covered in the video. If something is soldered and I've not covered it then the board came that way ;) Read up on the firmware and you'll see that the TV standard is now set entirely in software anyway (as we cover in the video)..

Alright. Good video. On basis of this i managed to get my CC3D talking to the MinimOSD Micro. Since Openpilot vanished i am also running LibrePilot now. And they told me the only OSD software they support is MInOPOSD. The first OSD i installed was MWOSD which didnt recieve any flight data from CC3d. So here my question. I added Battery A to the hud. Now if I boot up my quad it says 0.01v. Do you know where i can adjust the voltage to be correct? Thank you again for the great videos. :)

Hi and great video.. I have configured the Minimosd the way you described in your video and my screen shows the display fine but nothing works except the timer, I have it set on the flex port of my Atom CC3D flight controller since the main port is set for Sbus. I have swapped transmit and rcv leads and still no horizon or telemetry movement of any kind.. Any ideas would be very helpful. +Painless360 Hi Painless.. I fixed the problem... It seems the Atom Mini CC3D only likes YOUR .hex file. All the others I tried didn't work even though they were listed a plain Text files. All is working well, and it is on the Flex port of the CC3D.Great video and super explanations

I am getting "failed to talk to bootloader" error? any advice Ihave downloaded all software I have read lights on both of the unitsand a small amber light on the Minim unit. When click the plain.hex file FTDI adapter blinks green it starts loading get to about 3/4 loaded and then I get the error. It then tells me to try using arduino which won't open the hex file but I am not familiar with that program. I have reconfigured my ports on the ASUS netbook i am using and got it to connect on COM 5. so close yet so far....

Hello, i have CC3D Revo and i have little issue with OSD. I've flashed microOSD with "all data from FC" firmware from librepilot wiki and added simple voltage divider to revo, so it can measure voltage on battery. GCS shows correct voltage, but FC does not send it to OSD, yet anything else(Pitch, roll, satellites...) works fine. I don't know whats going on, maybe you can clarify it for me, please?

Painless360 Well, i've figured it out. New LibrePilot 16.09RC2 now supports different versions of OSD. So i've flashed MicroMinimOSD with proper MWOSD firmware and attached it to ReceiverPort, which was configured to 'MSP' option. In MWOSD GUI setup tool I've enabled 'Use FC main voltage' option, now it's working like a charm. Make sure you have directly attached your COM port adapter to OSD when updating firmware or charset, as Revo Virtual Com Port feature is only good for changing settings on the go.

+probante Yes you can, the Main and FLEXI ports should be on all CC3D versions. Check the pin-outs on the board you have. We have a few videos on the CC3D using the full size, Mini and Nano boards so have a look at those for details. Best of luck!

I flashed the firmware onto a builtin minimOSD on Kylin 250. I'm using SBUS as signal input. The battery voltage displays correctly, and so does the artificial horizon line. But it has no effect on Throttle and Disarmed display. Is there something I'm missing? Was the firmware written for SBUS? Thanks in advanced.

Just got on of these and I got the micro version, that ones tiny for the current kit build. Not ready to do the pins on that micro size so I thought Id get one to play with that's a little easier to connect with pins. Got a PDB with 5v and LED switched, but still haven't got the motors or speed controllers, still looking at oneshot. The frame had a rec motor and prop size so I think ill use that and what you have with the build. CHEERS !

I've tried another CC3D board, flashed and reflashed the software, checked and x-checked the baud rate for Telemetry. Verified OSD toggle channel if disabled. Configured and tried both the main port and flexi port for telemetry and no dice on both CC3D boards. I would assume that the "NO Tel Com" displayed means NO TELEMETRY COMMUNICATION. I've Googled the to no avail.

One more thing, I have also tried this using LibrePilot for CC3D in place of OpenPilot. I've also swapped the tx and rx wires going into the OSD

The OSD expects different telemetry 'language' depending on the code you are running on the OSD. You need to reload it onto the OSD if you are changing the FC firmware..

I finally figured out my issue. I read somewhere that if you have the USB connected to the computer, it will not allow telemetry through any other port but USB. I unplugged USB and everything is working GREAT NOW. Best Regards Ben

I have a little problem with my micro minimosd with an Openpilot CC3D, can't get into the config screen at all. The osd is working, shows run time and horizon information fine, so it is talking to the FC. However, voltage reading is way out. Can you do a video of minOPOSD stick config please!? ;)

+David Nicholas You only have a small window after boot to get into the menu and if you can't then extend your endpoints on the radio slightly for the menu then pop them back when you've got it sorted. Best of luck.

+Painless360 thanks for the prompt respond my wire was OK, but i figured out how to fix it, and it is interesting case reading again the product description i got from AliExpress i found that i have PAL system so i was needed to change the Video mode from NTSC to PAL but the interesting is that when i try to short the PAL connectors on the MINIMOSD board it did not work it works only when the PAL pads are disconnect now everything working good perfect except that when i tilt the quad the horizon line change to characters and the battery voltage is >17volts when i have 3s what not make sense thanks again for you answer i really like your channel and follow all your videos thanks Shmulik

Hi, Great video, i'm learning loads. i've got one of these for my first 250 quad build on a cc3d. I'm worried about not knowing when my battery is low. You removed the battery voltage from your OSD options, can i ask why? Will me leaving the battery voltage showing indicate to me in my display when i need to come in to land so i don't damage my lipo? Thanks

+Aidy Wellock Great question. The reason is that if you look at the voltage whilst flying it drops and rises again as you increase the throttle and the ESCs pull more current. A battery that is still ok to fly can drop below the 'warning' level in an OSD quickly when you apply full power. This can be distracting and confusing. The best way to see how much time is left in a pack is to track the mAh used and make sure that you never use more than 80% of the mAh capacity in the LIPO when you fly.. Hope that makes sense..

Is this still not going to work to show the voltage on the CC3D? I've got it setup like your video but would really like the voltage to be displayed. What other options are out there that are easier? I see this one can do it but you have to solder on resistors which looks messy and easy for me to screw it up lol. Love your videos!

If you want Betaflight then there are boards with lots of UARTs and even lots with inbuilt OSDs that are easy to setup. You're definably looking at one of the harder routes there ;)

The you use the vBat in Cleanflight or the KV_team OSD firmware and connect the battery to the board directly. If you want to do this type of thing then the Naze32/STM32 boards are a better bet. Best of luck..

what if you get a mess of errors from arduino after it uploads i am running a 64 bit computer when i try to load the GUI i get a dos like window with nothing to understand... and when i click the 32 bit GUI i get a can't open 32bit base windows message.

I found the problem. Arduino don't work on AMD 64 bit processing. My computer is too fast for that dinosaur crap systems their using. Its time they upgrade their software and get with the new times... stop using grandma's and grandpa's computer. It pisses me off I bought all this hardware OSD'S, FTDI'S, CABLES, I CAN'T EVEN USE, BECAUSE THESE IDIOTS, still thinking they're living in the past. I'm in Canada and our dollar is a lot more costly than pound. I have to find some one to download Arduino so I can flash (upload the firmware).

hii ..I have successfully flashed firmware into micro minim osd and connected it to main port and set it to telemetry port.but after I connect battery to copter my lcd screen shows this message "NO TEL COM". how to fix this???

The MicroMinimOSD was designed to run with the KV_Team firmware (uses MSP telemetry) while the CC3D uses MAVLink telemetry so not sure..

+larry haley depends on the OSD you have. On-board osds can also be designed to work with the Betaflight/Cleanflight or iNavFlight osd software directly. If it's a separate board then you can use an FTDI adapter. Best of luck!

The battery needs to be read from the telemetry screen (so the FC needs to read it somehow - Naze3/F3 boards have vBat on them for this) or you need to connect the voltage sense pins on the MinimOSD to the battery using a resistor bridge. Check the documentation for the firmware on the MinimOSD for more details. Best of luck.

My advice is to power the board using 5v as I show in the video. Too many people had problems with the 12v regulators.

I followed your tutorial and i can see the information on the screen. But, only timer and horizon bar is working. Flight modes always show manual (i dont even use manual), throttle is always at 0% and warnings always say disarmed. Do you have any idea whats going on here? I've checked all conections and cc3d settings and is always like u describe in this video. I also google it but havent found nothing. Please tell me if you know how to fix this. My receiver is Turnigy 9x8c v2, do you think is because of that receiver that dont have telemetry? Thank you so much

Problem solved!!!!!! The firmware you show in this video is not full compatible with the actual cc3d firmware, its normal because this video is from 03/05/2015. For those are having the same problem go to librepilot.atlassian.net/wiki/display/LPDOC/MinOPOSD+setup and download the correct firmware. I got another question for you, its possible to show battery voltage just with using Frsky D8R-II Plus? this receiver already have a voltage sensor build inside, but i dont know how to put it in communication with the minimOSD. Tell me if you know how. Thank you in advance

Ah I see! Depends on what you want to use it for. Kevin Ray The MinimOSD can be flashed with all kinds of firmware and be used with loads of flight controllers, search for 'MinimOSD' on my channel and you'll see at least 5! The boards you link to seem ok but remember you need an FTDI Basic adapter to flash any changes you want to them.. Happy flying!

I currently have a 3S QAV250 that I love but looking at taking the next step in FPV flying. As part of this new build I want to add battery/voltage display to my goggles via the OSD.
