to be fair, the characters higher on the list are meta characters and the ones lower are not. If going by meta, usage rates are pretty objective and the ones with higher usages are significantly superior characters compared to the mid and lower ones

@@ashenzenden You do have to consider various things, though. Like Tiggy is strong in this Abyss, but not nearly as good in others, so you can't look at just one Abyss cycle. Then there's Jean. She highlights two things. First, being on the standard banner, her ownership rate will be higher, especially among long term players. So her value is higher than her usage rate indicates. But on the flip side, her value is lower than it indicates as well, because it isn't Jean that people want. They want Furina. Using Jean is part of the price they pay to run Furina. So Furina is significantly superior to other options, to such a degree that people will downgrade Kaz to Jean to run her, rather than that Jean is significantly superior. She's still meta, of course, but meta can involve a lot of "least bad option" choices if the end result of the overall team is superior. Kinda like how Lyney or Neuv teams using Deyha as a support doesn't mean her kit is fixed. She's just good enough for now, someone to use until a teammate they actually want is added.

Navia became my favourite carry next to Neuv. I'll probably always use her no matter the abyss, because I find her so fun. Also, Furina + Neuv clear chambers in 30-50 seconds tops, so it doesn't really matter who I'm running on the other side lol

YES please more of these abyss usage videos, they're always interesting! I don't see many creators doing this these days. Tighnari is great against the bottom half of floor 12 this time not only because he's a ranged damage dealer. In fact I would say the single most important reason is his rediculous front loaded kit. 95% of his damage in a rotation comes from E-CA-Q-CA-CA which can be over in about 5 seconds, meaning you can unload on the enemy even in very short windows like the serpent and especially wenut are so reviled for. It's especially good because spread does not require an equal amount of elemental application so he can get like 10 spreads in that time frame. The next time the worm pops up you can do Yae's combo that is almost as fast and get tons of aggravates. Although against wenut you want to hold her burst until you need to bring it down usually. This time I ran without any sustain on second half since all the chambers are basically target dummies, so I got to use my c2 Nahida as well (with Fishcl in the last slot), and it was pretty glorious. Navia wrecked the first half with Furina, Gorou (c6) and Noelle (c6). By the statistics here I definitely feel like she's way underrated!

Yo, you use one of the Noelle teams I do. I usually like Yin Jin over Gorou because she's cute and great with Noelle, but with Navia there Gorou is probably better overall lol

Feels like one of the reasons Navia and Lyney's usage rates are low as well is because of the mobile bosses. Both of these characters need Bennett which makes them limit their movement within a circle for the most part, and it can be annoying to play with, especially with wenut.

Other thing to keep in mind too is the characters they are most frequently paired with are Bennett and Xingaling. Two units who are in demand in a lot of teams. Raiden, Childe, Wriothesley. Not to mention characters who only character about using Bennett. Like for comparison this is why characters like Cyno and Noelle didn't instantly shoot up despite Furina, or Childe shooting up because of Xianyun.

Really nice video! And this is definitely a topic that is worth mentioning in every abyss patch. However, I do have some suggestions for upgrades, 1) You may want "even more" emphasis and analysis on the abyss mobs affecting the graph. Yes, you did mention about Yae being good in chamber 2, however, there is definitely more to that. For example, This abyss, most people struggle on the 2nd side, which this puts a lot of carries to be more balanced out in chamber 1, but some units that shines in chamber 2, like most S tier units, either generate good energies, not too heavy reliant on burst, or mobile. 2) You may consider also put previous spiral abyss usage rates into consideration. For example, This is the first time in history that Furina gets no.1 place in spiral abyss rate, and also for Yae, this is her first time in history first place as electro unit (she always behind Raiden and Kuki). From this speculation, this really tell us the strength of their summons/totems against chamber 2. 3) Also consider leyline buffs into speculation. For example, Previous leyline buff, in beginning of new 4.4 abyss, Xiao and Mommy Anemo wasn't even high in S tier. For F2P player or skill issue player, ley line buff really helps way more than one thinks. There are definitely more examples, but these are just my opinion, so don't need to fully listen to me, But really nice video. Continue with the analysis and making! 💪

Nah, I used Burnmelt Ganyu. Team was Ganyu, Nahida, Bennett, c2 Xinyan. Xinyan's c2 makes a level 3 shield on her burst, and her burst has the same cooldown as Bennett burst so you have better buff uptime and tighter rotations. It also periodically pulses with Pyro damage to keep burning alive and counts as skill damage to activate totm.

Hey, I’m a Xinyan enjoyer and I haven’t used her in some time, I wanted to try this team. Do you build her with EM for the Burning reaction? What build you’re using?

Xinyan is going all in on defense and ER for her Shield. She needs a thick shield because her pulsating level 3 shield only deals damage if her shield hasn't been broken, and she needs enough ER to use her burst WITHOUT relying on her skill because her skill cooldown is too long (it's longer than her burst's cooldown). I usually find Fav Greatsword and defense sands/gob/circlet artifacts to be good enough since Bennett is also on the team; Xinyan c2 also gives her a 100% crit rate on the burst cast, so she can proc Fav without needing any crit rate on artifacts. Xinyan is for a shield and totm buff only. Nahida has trikarma from skill, so she will own the burning damage almost all the time and it would use her EM. And even then, Ganyu is still doing 75-80% of the team's damage from melting. Burning damage sucks, and the team structure ends up funneling a lot of buffs into Ganyu, so you'll get disproportionately better results based on the investment your Ganyu has. Also worth noting, Burnmelt Ganyu sheets worse than other more traditional teams still, but I like it against flying enemies like Wenut since you can hit Melt shots from any distance and can deal damage when other teams cannot.

Prior to Xianyun, Jean was around 20% usage rate, and considering how similar the two characters are (Xianyun is essentially a Jean with plunge flavor), it's not surprising that she fall considerably with a new major competitor joining.

But yeah, if you don't want to use TTDS or plunge, then I can see why Jean would be the better option.

I liked this video! I really liked that you analyzed the logic and provided a bigger picture view of these usage rates that so many in the community take as face value of how good a character is without considering that it's based on a sample size and who submits. So that use case with the Furina example from the video is really smart. While these usage rates can be fun to look at and can give some overall feel of a character's viability in the new abyss, it must also be analyzed carefully and not used to bash units with lower usage rates.

This abyss I used a lot of furina and yelan for my teams. For Furina it’s just the auto targeting against the solo bosses that was really impressive and for yelan it’s the movement during wenut stage, burst damage on skill + being bow user. Having this core, you can have really any carry defeat the 2nd half if they’re competent and for the first half you can just have fun and clear with whatever you want for the most part as long as the team has kazuha for grouping or nahida for pseudo grouping.

⁠@@natonaa9681 not really. Navia wanters who became Navia havers have built her by now. This is now the real usage rate of Navia. It will probably go lower a bit more. Navia usage rate went down fast in 4.4 and i expected that. she had relatively high usage rate in 4.3 only because of her debut banner. Now in 4.4, the dust has settled. it’s showing now her true usage rate and value in the abyss. But for what is worth, Navia is the best Geo DPS character. But it’s her element that’s pulling her down. Geo is just objectively a badly designed element. If Navia didn’t have a passive talent that wants rainbow elements in her team, she would probably suffer the same fate as Itto. It’s her rainbow passive that somehow saved her. This just somehow shows that mono Geo is a (kinda) dead route for Geo. Synergizing Geo with other elements makes for interesting characters such as Navia. Her synergy with other elements is very artificial, but it’s better than stale mono Geo with Itto and company. Chiori will be forgotten after her debut banner. She might make some tiny buzz during her release and the few Geo mains will be a bit chatty for a few weeks, but when 4.5 ends, Chiori and the rest of the mono Geo gang will hibernate again. Geo is kinda a dead element. (i used to be a Geo main. but realized it’s an element going nowhere with the mono direction, summoning of geo constructs, and terrible purpose of Crystallize). geo is objectively the worst designed element in Genshin. Its non-synergy with other elements is its biggest problem. And as always in perpetuity, Hoyoverse will not do anything about it. Genshin devs are allergic to real improvements. Not just for Geo. But to all of Genshin in general.

@@sanzzz24 Not really. She's strong against single bosses, and against them, a F2P style player is going to need multiple rotations to drop the boss anyway. Navia furthermore splits damage into 2 E's per rotation, which reduces the impact of missed crits as well. What I'd say is more at play here is that these particular bosses don't favor her as much as others. She's not great against flyers, and two of these suckers fly. She needs her ammo to hit hard, but that means you need to hit the enemies with her burst and some sort of PECHs thing, which is negatively impacted by the burrowing. So while a boss side is theoretically in her favor, these particular bosses favor other characters more than her.

I got my first 36 star this latest abyss, Using a Lyney Chevreuse Raiden team and a Neuvillette standard. Lyney just puts out so much damage he puts in a ton of leg work for me.

Like the timing of this. The other week I saw another CC ranting about how he didn't understand why Fischl's usage was so low because of how "broken" she is. And my thought was, she is a fantastic unit, but how many teams where she is the undisputed best electro unit to go with is actually played in high numbers?

The only team I think she's the undisputed best electro unit like that is Keqing Aggravate, and that's because Keqing makes so many Electro reactions in a Quicken Aura, she can trigger Fischl's passive many times, to the point a well-built Fischl can even out-DPS Keqing herself. Given Keqing ain't exactly meta, it makes Fischl replaceable. I for example replace her sometimes with Shinobu, sometimes with Raiden as Sub-DPS, sometimes with Sara or sometimes I just run a single Electro Unit like in a Raiden Hyperbloom team. For me, that's what makes the game interesting to play. Because every tiny niche has a BiS character, I have a reason to build them all, and not really care about the Abyss meta. For example, I have been building a new Overload team focused on Chevreuse and finally started understanding how to use Sara. It ain't Meta, and the abyss where this team was useful was back in 4.3, but who cares.

Since I got Tighnari, I would almost always use his Spread team as one of my Abyss teams. His front loaded damage is so high that I feel more comfortable using non-meta teams in the other chamber

Max out your liyues's and mondstadt's statue of seven. Alhaitham arguably has the fastest sprint speed without any speed/stamina buffs. I used him in second half and I was fine.

I wanted to try Tighnari this time wenut came and it was one of the smoothest runs I had on a level with Neuv teams. Very easy to play, press Es, press Qs, shoot 3 times, look for Zl shield and repeat. Drake was dead before he took off second time. Very curios insight on this boss killer team i got.

I kind of wish that you would have spent more time on Yae because she's consistently in that S tier for usage rates ever since Sumeru and yet the discourse surrounding her by other content creators is that she's "5 star Fischl" or even "worse Fischl" years after her release. Personally I fully believe that it's more tied to the "comfort" argument you made earlier because she's absolutely one of the easiest units to play but that doesn't excuse the wide disparity between her and Fischl.

she is 5 star fischl, except in the tighnari team where she can be 2nd on-field dps while tighnari skill is on cooldown. the disparity is the tighnari team which is probably the most used team for wenut boss.

Yae is a bit tedious to play. easy but tedious. EEE-Q-EEE can get tiring. I wish Yae had a mechanic where you didn’t need to do two EEE’s. it’s too much for me.

@@funoniziedej1851 I have forced myself to like Yae miko ever since her first release also got her sig weapon. Even though she gets stronger after dendro her playstyle made me gave up. Its just so annoying, I ended up going back to Fischl whenever I need electro. Imagine if you can hold her E to summon all 3 and her burst refreshes the totem instead of consuming it, she would have been a much better character to play.

Yae is amazing in the second side of abyss and Tighnari has great synergy with her. His rotations are also pretty short so he's able to get most of his damage out before the worm goes back in the ground.

Benny probably also factors in, as the flip side to Yae and Nahida. With Benny, you use his burst, and now have to stay in that circle to keep the buff for your charged shots. But if Wenut moves, well, now you have to leave the circle. Benny is also burst dependent, and those underground periods negatively impact Benny's energy generation. Yae, conversely, is E based, so no need to worry about energy, and she has 3 charges with lower cooldown, so easy to keep quicken active. And then there's Nahida to add to the mix. Also E based. Yae will trigger Nahida's E, allowing Nahida to also damage the wurms while they are underground. And that in turn will generate dendro particles for Tiggy. So, basically, Tiggy has an entire team that is strong against burrowers. Though you could, of course, run an overload Lyney team, so you could also benefit from Yae. But regardless, Tiggy's team is just more ideal, all things considered.

i have a c0r1 navia with a top 1% build and i stopped using her because i dont have another geo character raised (no zhongli, albedo, etc.). i do have a c6 ning but while in the process of raising her, i realized how bad she felt to use and would rather just use a c2 furina team, however, there are so many other fun and better teams that can use c2 furina. navia was cool in the beginning, but it got quite stale after a few weeks. coupled with the fact that i wont ever pull for any of her current best geo teammates, i simply dropped her for more enjoyable chars/teams. i dont mind having her but i already have my few fav chars so it's gonna be hard for me to pick her back up since nothing stands out (character design to actual gameplay)

the funny thing is, this is my first time using xiao in the abyss since.. well since getting a better dps- he was one of my very early characters and I had him with I think albedo, sayu and.. bennett? Idk man it was a while ago. might’ve had qiqi too the funnier thing is I couldn’t clear floor 12 with him, but. I could clear it pretty easy with dps kazuha.. only swapping faruzan for bennett they’re both triple crowned I find this hilarious since xiao is typically considered one of the better anemo dps

Yae miko is better than Fischl in Tighnari team and sidegrade in Alhaitham team. In overall Yae is a weaker unit than Fischl in all aspects, but when you put both together with Dendro they shine. I'm main Yae and my favorite team is Yae+Fischl+Kazuha+Nahida, where Yae contributes a lot of damage by activating Fischl's A4

However, in general terms, it's not worth pulling Yae Miko just for Tighnari, she's not that much better than Fischl on this team. I recommend that you save your pulls for Neuvillette or Kazuha, which are coming in the next version.

For those wondering why Yae Miko is such a high spot on the tier list for the 4.4 patch Abyss runs that TGS didn't mention. Her auto-turrets have great tracking and hit boxes for all the bosses on the last chamber on Floor 12. Also, pairs nicely in the Neuvillite, Furina, Baizhu composition along with her. The other reasons in that composition is that she triggers hyperbloom with Electro, has EM boost for the turrets from her passive and has EM for hyperbloom to deal more as a reaction, works off of Neuvillite's passive for different reactions buffing his damage, and is easy to setup the turrets then swap to her teammates. Compared to Fischl who is similar but much lower representation. Summoning Oz is annoying at times with high cooldown/refilling Burst with just as long cooldown timer as skill, has a much harder time triggering hyperbloom in the same team mentioned above, has a harder time hitting the moving boss monsters in the last chamber of Floor 12 especially the underground drill robot, and is much more difficult setting up Oz with constantly swapping to Fischl to move Oz compared to the low cooldowns of reapplying the turrets from Yae Miko.

I don't know why but this abyss was very unforgiving to my navia. I have her 63:230 cv with double pyro which has been more than enough for previous abyss runs. But for some reason I almost never crit in this new abyss. I opted to use Raiden, Benny, chev and xianling. Which works great on first half. Then neuvilette, furina on second.

3:30 Funnily enough, I do still use Tartaglia on Neuvillette's team (I don't have Furina...yet). Mostly as a burst sub dps because it can hit pretty high, but also I found he was very needed in the previous Abyss when we had those stupid pyro lectors and I found Childe's frequent hydro application helped a lot at whittling away at them.

Basically, i give more importance to characters that have been in the game longer. at the earliest, maybe 2-4 patches after their initial banner-that’s when we can somehow better determine their true usage rates. take Navia for example, her usage rate was so high during her debut banner. but look at how she plummeted significantly in 4.4 update. and 4.3 was just the most recent previous update. take Baizhu as another example. He is now a consistent mainstay as top healer every update. It takes times to fully flesh out if a character will be used more or not. as for Xiao, he has a spike in usage rate in 4.4 because of Xianyun. otherwise, he would have lower usage rate. and Xianyun is in S-tier because her banner is current. I’ll wait for a few more patches after her debut banner before _really_ determining Xianyun’s real usage rate. People are just excited about her because she’s the newest commodity. “Recency Bias” is real.

Funnily enough, I made Navia + Cloud Retainer build (60 lvl 1/1/6 CR by the way, God I love characters that are great even unbuilt) and cleared second half with it easily. Much easier than with my standard Alhaitham Hyperbloom. I mean, if I had Diluc built he would do it even better but it's still imo very strong Navia team, because her plunges are much stronger than her NAs.

Very nice video and I think it has good commentary. I think 4 stars and standard 5 stars should be judged by Actual Usage Rates. I would love to see a video comparing both Actual Usage Rate and Usage/Ownership rates for different characters. Actual Usage rates make the most sense for the event banner 5 stars, but the other characters can be more accurately rated with Actual Usage Rate.

However i am guaranteed now so i will just get neuvilette in March and then i will be able to 36 star the abyss. My two current abyss teams are: C1 Wriothesley, C1 furina, Baizhu, C6 XL C0R1 Navia, Xingqiu, Bennett and geo traveller I am not able to 36 star because the second team lacks a punch. Wish i had albedo.

"oh but he's a charged attack user, bad playstyle" i never really find myself using his charged attacks? i usually just do 1 or 2 at the very beginning to start stacking but imo he is strong enough to carry with just his skill and and burst, not to mention all the damage coming from xiangling?? especially against those kinds of bosses that disappear in the ground and are impossible to attack, i use this free time to stack lyney's CA so that he's gonna deal more damage later.

Yup I think it’s great he is looking at this for fun as it should be and understands exactly the environment this data is from. It’s only from a small amount of data, takes into usage rate which puts certain characters at a disadvantage, also with acknowledgement the timing (aka newer characters tend to be more popular) will also affect the data. Wriothesley being so low in terms of ownership rate is a bit sad. I had to skip him but they also botched his kit so bad so you kind of need c1. Navia, Lyney, and Neuvi are all perfectly usable at c0.

Yeah, a lot of people run Hyperbloom somewhere in the Abyss, and that means either Kuki or Raiden (I mean - there are others, but that's what people default to). Plus Raiden recently got the new Chevreuse teams.

Basically people are picking the characters that are easiest to play with the lowest effort required. Gaming is kinda complicated to use correctly. Beidou is godly in this abyss but it is a little tricky to use her strongest teams and most people tend to not build Beidou because she is only good vs 2 or 3 target combat situations.
