+XB Mulberry LOL... yeah we have had troubles with groups like "Falcon Freedom" almost since the first XA turned 25 years old and qualified for entry into the USA. They don't seem to realize that we actually take relatively few out of the country compared to how many were made...... and I promise we replace them with 100 Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, Trans Ams, etc for every 1 Falcon that comes across the pond this direction. :-) and we have literally saved many that would have been crushed otherwise (see the "No Falcon Left Behind" series on this channel).

See above. I imagine when the Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, GTOs, Trans Ams, etc stop going that way, we can stop bringing the bare few Coupes this way.

There were not a whole lot of Shelby Mustangs made either, or Hemi Cudas, you name it, that still docent keep them from going overseas. Truthfully though the 1-200 total Aussie Falcons in the USA is a drop in the bucket to the 6 figure production numbers. Also, though w restore most of the nice Coupes that we bring in to stock specs, building a Mad Max interceptor out of anything but a Falcon Coupe would be like building a General Lee with a Coronet instead of a Charger. Just not the same.

@MadMaxCars ... I reckon it's a fair trade, lost count of the number of left hand drive Mustangs (to mention just one brand) I see driving on club plates. There are two schools of thought, convert to right hand drive, or don't. Conversion is straight forward since Mustangs up to 73 & 1/2 and Aussie Falcons 60 to 78 (I think) are built on the same platform. Most seem to keep them stock for historic value, but can only drive on club reg which has mileage limitations and log book BS involved.

This is crazy! Last week I visited Australia for the first time and drove from Melbourne to Sydney. I thought I’d go via a town called Canberra but got lost in an area called Belconnen. On the sidewalk of a guys house was an XB coupe. I knocked on the door and he agreed to sell it! I’m looking into getting it sent back right now. Yippee! I love these kangaroo made machines. So excited!

MadMaxCars Yeah it has some damage at the front but the hood is okay. Apparently around 30 years ago the previous owner was making a trip home from a town called Alice Springs and he hit one of the aboriginals that was alseep on the highway but keep going! CRAZY. It was garaged ever since! So I guess it’s already kind of a Mad Max car!

@@lukeyp523 Actually if you have a look at our other videos you will see we actually mostly restore these cars to stock or do GT clone builds. Thats why has happened to pretty much all 4 of these. Also there is only 200 or so total Aussie Falcons in the states (including Utes, Wagons, Sedans, panels, and Coupes), while 1000s of Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, Trans Ams, Corvettes, GTXs, Camaros, etc go across the pond that way every year. Indeed that is quite correct. Our Aussie mates seem to use "Hardtop" and "Coupe" fairly interchangeably. Most often favoring "Coupe" as the go to, even if its not technically correct form a Ford Marketing standpoint. So I guess we just get used to using the term we hear from our Geared Brothers in OZ. Only 5 publicly available atm from XA to XC. 2 being cobras(original) If youre chopping up GT's, Gs's to make fucking replicas you need to be banned from coming here. Not to mention being stupid. GT's are worth a fucking fortune. A piece of shit 2 dorr Fairmont is the cheapest available atm at $70K. You better be restoring these Australian treasures mate.

+V8Ziggy My apologies, It seems you do.There is no such thing as a cheap coupe. even a rusted out piece of shit GT Is worth more than you can imagine through plates, block etc. Clone a 4'1L 6cyl Falcon 500 into a GT replica if you must. Not a MM. There's enough already. Got to rare Spares in OZ and get XB GT trim to finish off a Falcon 500 clunker. It'll be nicer and probably worth more as a GT clone as it ever would as a MM replica.

This brings back memories. I had 2 of these, the first was a fake GT and the dealer had to get me a real GT (they got fooled when the had it traded). I knew what a GT was supposed to look like because my brother had one but he had the 4 door I had the coupe. We both had the XA. When I got my real GT the one thing I was very happy about was it had power steering. I miss it and still have a picture of it on my wall in my study, I still have dreams about it even to this day. Unsure as to how I feel about this. I mean, I'm sure they are going to a good home, but still. Many of the coupes you guys take from us seem to get butchered. There really aren't many left over here, even taking a few over puts a sizeable dent in their population here.
@MadMaxCars

Yeah, I hear ya. We have been watching our rare cars go overseas for decades, and it is hard to witness even if you know they will be well cared for. If it helps any, 211,971 XB's produced between October, 1973 and June, 1976, so the few that get brought over to the USA should not really affect the total number there by a noticeable %. Probably the high number that got scrapped in the late 70's through 90's has more to do with it than anything.

One interesting factor regarding the low sales of these big coupes in Australia was the rising cost of fuel during the 70s. It was all over for these attractive 2 doors by 77, after only a few years, with Holden, Ford & Chrysler trying to get rid of remaining stock (hence the Ford Cobra & Monaro LS) These are are big cars, but not huge, like full size American cars of the time. Even the big 2 door yank tanks has enough space in the back to be family transport. In these smaller Australan cars, sure you'll find more room than a Porsche 924, but family transport they are not. & fuel prices were going up up UP!

Australian Fords were both designed and built in Australia. We had some models that were imported from the US, but there were a few that we innovated on our own for our own tastes. The Falcon was the flagship of the company and was known for it’s reliability and long service life. By far our most popular Falcon was the AU, although it was considered ugly, it served as a taxi, a police interceptor, a rental, a government vehicle and as a family vehicle. It had a station wagon variant and was also produced as a ute. There was also a wheelchair transport module produced for the taxi station wagon. It could run for over 100km with no oil in the inline 6 cylinder engine. It was almost impossible to blow a head gasket. Maserati bought a licence to produce the automatic transmission for their own cars.

@@tommm.1538 "Rare" cars are just that. Rare in whatever country that produces them. Though there are more people in the USA, the % and spread of rich vs poor is probably pretty equal across the population. If anything the balance is worse in the USA with a smaller percentage holding more of the wealth resulting in more people below the poverty line. There are certainly Aussies rich enough to send Falcons to us for restoration and have them shipped home, or buy rare ones that have been here for decades and bring them home. They also import our "rare muscle cars" by the 1000s each year, compared to less than 200 XA,B,C Falcons (including Sedans, Wagons, Utes, Panelvans, and Hardtops) imported to the USA in the last 20 years. So I think you guys are doing ok. Still I do understand how hard it is to see your rare cars go overseas. It happens in this country all the time. Going to Australia, UK, Japan, Dubai, and pretty much anywhere a collector with some money lives. Classic American cars are popular everywhere.

Ford of Australia started as a branch of Ford of Canada. Ford Falcons were first made in Aus. As CKD kits shipped from Canada back in the 1960s. These CKD kits were Canadian spec cars with no A/C. The were shipped to Vancouver by rail from Ontario and then by boat to Geelong.. Dodge Darts were also shipped to Adelaide as CKD kits. The first Holden car designed after WWII was a downsized Chevy.

That color is called "Walnut Glow" from the factory. It actually looks really nice in person as well. That car (a true GS, and a barn find) is now in the hands of one of the most appreciating Falcon collectors in the USA. You may be glad to know there are very very few of your awesome Aussie Muscle Cars here in the states. Less than 200 altogether from what we know, including Falcon Sedans, Utes Wagons, and Panel Vans etc. Probably 1 for abut every 1000 of those Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Challengers, Chargers etc. that come across the pond the other way. Probably a fair trade? hat XBGS Fairmont got a full mechanical restoration, but the new owner chose to leave it is its "Barn Find" condition cosmetically, since it had survived in really good condition other than the things you mentioned. You can see the video of it shipping out to its new owner here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnPLYqNsps5sec0 I am glad you like the music. Well, we are here in the USA as well. The 71 Sportsroof Torinos do look similar in general, and LOTS of people confuse them for each other. However if you park them side by side it becomes really apparent that they only have a passing resemblance. Not a single body panel is directly interchangeable. Even the wheelbase is different. However the drive-train and suspension components are mostly interchangeable. When we show these at events people always ask what they are. If they are a Torino, Mustang, Javelin, or any number of other things. They sure do share a lot of "Styling Ques" with American Muscle Cars. Thanks very much for watching and for your comment!

BTW the orange XB - those rims are a factory option steel rim - usually provided as part of the 'GS pack'. The brown coupe, those deep dish 'mags' look like Aungers - classic local wheels - the gold stripe is usually also a GS pack option. Fords GS pack included an upgraded instrument collection - tacho and oil pressure etc. Some other interesting options you could get were a long range tank (130 litres - replaced the indent for the tyre) and air con was considered an option back then. There was an upgraded equipment trim level version called the Landau. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Landau_(Australia)
@MadMaxCars

Cool! Thank you for the info. We were actually aware of the GT/GS 12 slot rims, as we have seen them on several cars that have come in. The "Walnut Glow" coupe is actually a GS Fairmont so the stripe and other options are factory. Its the "Barn Find" featured in some of our other videos. If you watch some of our "Reveal" videos you might see an ultra rare Deep Aqua XBGT that among other things came equipped with AC, Electric Windows, 4 Speed and an Outback Pack. Its a 1 of 1 in that configuration and color. The Landaus are great cars also, but if I understand correctly, though they were based on the Falcon they were actually considered a part of the LTD line and not actually a Falcon trim level by Ford marketing. Ford Motor Company of Australia has built a legendary car. The Ford Falcon is similar to its American counterpart, the 1st generation 1970-1971or the 2nd generation 1972-1976 Ford Torino. But I like the Australian version better. Both versions used the same Cleveland 351 cubic inch V-8. The Australian version was tuned differently American version.

Yes, I think I know that car. Nice conversion. We have built a XB with a 460. You really can put just about anything under the bonnet if you want. I sort of always wondered why not a 429 SCJ Falcon factory build.
@keithmottram8755
@keithmottram8755 3 жыл бұрын
@@MadMaxCars After our Supercar scare in the media, 351's were the limit. An XB did not have the brakes nor the suspension to handle anything bigger than a 351at the time. You do need to remember, the performance Fords and Holdens in Australia were made for our local tin top racing. Putting a 429 into an XB would have made it too expensive for the local market.
@MadMaxCars
@MadMaxCars 3 жыл бұрын
@@keithmottram8755 I absolutely believe that a 429SCJ equipped Falcon would have been too expensive for anyone but a select few buyers. However the XBs (particularly with GT bits) were at least as well equipped a chassis as Mustangs or other cars that got a 429 in the USA (better than most). So I think it would have been possible if a market existed for a special package.

Fortunately in this video there is no engine noise to be covered by the music. All the cars were unloaded using gravity, and so did not need to be run. We usually look the cars over carefully before starting them up, which means getting them off the trailer and into the shop for an inspection before running them. Just a precaution after bringing them overseas. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

I want one of your beautiful wallowing heavy fuel guzzling early 70s Galaxie four door sedans. Such a beast. Australia assembled them locally in the late 60s until we imported them for a while until 72 where Ford Australia did the conversions to rhd. In a funny way, this may be a good way to save these coupes from otherwise going by the wayside. They can always be re-imported back sometime in the future as one was recently from Ireland! Americans have good resources for doing these up to top notch standard. Say what you like about our siblings in the States, but they do very meticulous work with their car restos second to non.

Most of the cars we bring in do get full factory spec restorations. We pride ourselves on doing them well, and making them top notch cars. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment!

The Walnut Glow XB GS Fairmont Barn find got a full mechanical restoration while preserving the interior and exterior appearance (see the ship out video for that car). I'm gonna cut across the grain with this comment - PLEASE take more coupes! I'm an Aussie living in the US for the last 25 years, and these were always my fave. Used to have an RPO-83 (basically an XA GT with factory-widened fenders, originally intended for the Phase 4 that never got mass-produced), back in the mid 80s. Wish I'd kept it - I sure can't afford one these days. Now I find I really miss seeing these on the street, so the more you bring here, the better my chances. :-)

MadMaxCars Probably. Sadly, I sold mine around '90 for about $8k. :-( Never thought they'd get so popular, considering how most people weren't exactly fans.
@MadMaxCars
@MadMaxCars 8 жыл бұрын
That is unfortunate. I have sold a few cars that would be unbelievably valuable today if I had kept them. Just the way the collector market is I guess. Several of my Aussie mates have said, in various ways, that the Coupes were sort of like the Edsel was here. Not as well liked as you might think, and couldn't even trade them in so they got sold for scrap to get a down payment on a new car (scraps yards would take them cuz the front sheet metal would go on the sedans also). One of the reasons there are so very few of them these days.

Coupes have a pillar in the middle, they are hard tops 😎👍
@MadMaxCars
@MadMaxCars 5 жыл бұрын
We actually find our Aussie mates use the terms interchangeably, with "Coupe" being the most common usage. So that is why we generally use that description. If it is helpful I did find this definition online: "A hardtop has no B-pillar, which is the pillar between the front and rear side windows. A hardtop can be 2-doors or 4-doors. A coupe is a body style that can be a proper hardtop or with a B-pillar." So it seems it is correct either way you choose to define it. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
