+XB Mulberry LOL... yeah we have had troubles with groups like "Falcon Freedom" almost since the first XA turned 25 years old and qualified for entry into the USA. They don't seem to realize that we actually take relatively few out of the country compared to how many were made...... and I promise we replace them with 100 Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, Trans Ams, etc for every 1 Falcon that comes across the pond this direction. :-) and we have literally saved many that would have been crushed otherwise (see the "No Falcon Left Behind" series on this channel).

There were not a whole lot of Shelby Mustangs made either, or Hemi Cudas, you name it, that still docent keep them from going overseas. Truthfully though the 1-200 total Aussie Falcons in the USA is a drop in the bucket to the 6 figure production numbers. Also, though w restore most of the nice Coupes that we bring in to stock specs, building a Mad Max interceptor out of anything but a Falcon Coupe would be like building a General Lee with a Coronet instead of a Charger. Just not the same.

@MadMaxCars ... I reckon it's a fair trade, lost count of the number of left hand drive Mustangs (to mention just one brand) I see driving on club plates. There are two schools of thought, convert to right hand drive, or don't. Conversion is straight forward since Mustangs up to 73 & 1/2 and Aussie Falcons 60 to 78 (I think) are built on the same platform. Most seem to keep them stock for historic value, but can only drive on club reg which has mileage limitations and log book BS involved.

Yeah, I hear ya. We have been watching our rare cars go overseas for decades, and it is hard to witness even if you know they will be well cared for. If it helps any, 211,971 XB's produced between October, 1973 and June, 1976, so the few that get brought over to the USA should not really affect the total number there by a noticeable %. Probably the high number that got scrapped in the late 70's through 90's has more to do with it than anything.

One interesting factor regarding the low sales of these big coupes in Australia was the rising cost of fuel during the 70s. It was all over for these attractive 2 doors by 77, after only a few years, with Holden, Ford & Chrysler trying to get rid of remaining stock (hence the Ford Cobra & Monaro LS) These are are big cars, but not huge, like full size American cars of the time. Even the big 2 door yank tanks has enough space in the back to be family transport. In these smaller Australan cars, sure you'll find more room than a Porsche 924, but family transport they are not. & fuel prices were going up up UP!

Australian Fords were both designed and built in Australia. We had some models that were imported from the US, but there were a few that we innovated on our own for our own tastes. The Falcon was the flagship of the company and was known for it’s reliability and long service life. By far our most popular Falcon was the AU, although it was considered ugly, it served as a taxi, a police interceptor, a rental, a government vehicle and as a family vehicle. It had a station wagon variant and was also produced as a ute. There was also a wheelchair transport module produced for the taxi station wagon. It could run for over 100km with no oil in the inline 6 cylinder engine. It was almost impossible to blow a head gasket. Maserati bought a licence to produce the automatic transmission for their own cars.

That is so true. While they have always had their fans, they were truly not appreciated for how cool they were back then. Some of our Aussie mates tell me they were like "Australia's Edsel". They certainly have skyrocketed in value over the last 10 - 15 years.

You may be glad to know there are very very few of your awesome Aussie Muscle Cars here in the states. Less than 200 altogether from what we know, including Falcon Sedans, Utes Wagons, and Panel Vans etc. Probably 1 for abut every 1000 of those Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Challengers, Chargers etc. that come across the pond the other way. Probably a fair trade? hat XBGS Fairmont got a full mechanical restoration, but the new owner chose to leave it is its "Barn Find" condition cosmetically, since it had survived in really good condition other than the things you mentioned. You can see the video of it shipping out to its new owner here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnPLYqNsps5sec0 I am glad you like the music. We get mixed reviews on that, some like it, some not, but nobody in the middle unless they just are not saying if so. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment!

@MadMaxCars6 жыл бұрын
Well, we are here in the USA as well. The 71 Sportsroof Torinos do look similar in general, and LOTS of people confuse them for each other. However if you park them side by side it becomes really apparent that they only have a passing resemblance. Not a single body panel is directly interchangeable. Even the wheelbase is different. However the drive-train and suspension components are mostly interchangeable. When we show these at events people always ask what they are. If they are a Torino, Mustang, Javelin, or any number of other things. They sure do share a lot of "Styling Ques" with American Muscle Cars. Thanks very much for watching and for your comment!

The brown coupe, those deep dish 'mags' look like Aungers - classic local wheels - the gold stripe is usually also a GS pack option. Fords GS pack included an upgraded instrument collection - tacho and oil pressure etc. Some other interesting options you could get were a long range tank (130 litres - replaced the indent for the tyre) and air con was considered an option back then. There was an upgraded equipment trim level version called the Landau. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Landau_(Australia)

@keithmottram87553 жыл бұрын
@@MadMaxCars After our Supercar scare in the media, 351's were the limit. An XB did not have the brakes nor the suspension to handle anything bigger than a 351at the time. You do need to remember, the performance Fords and Holdens in Australia were made for our local tin top racing. Putting a 429 into an XB would have made it too expensive for the local market.
@MadMaxCars3 жыл бұрын
@@keithmottram8755 I absolutely believe that a 429SCJ equipped Falcon would have been too expensive for anyone but a select few buyers. However the XBs (particularly with GT bits) were at least as well equipped a chassis as Mustangs or other cars that got a 429 in the USA (better than most). I think you are correct. Some of them do. Most seem to come from QLD or NSW, but I think we have had our hands in at least one from every State. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

XB GS coupe nice with the 302, then XB 351, then an XA love the back wheels, you guys have scored well. I currently have the last of the Falcons, FGX XR8 Factory supercharged 5L six speed manual, it is for sale at Llyods Auctions on the Gold Coast, would make a great car to have, just saying.

Sounds like you have had a cool collection of cars. Nice! Thanks for watching!

I don’t mind the fact they get imported but I’ve never seen a falcon coupe that hasn’t been hacked into a mad max falcon their
@MadMaxCars6 жыл бұрын
Well you have certainly reached the right place to see just the opposite. Most every car we bring in gets restored to factory spec or similar. Check out the other videos on our channel and you will see. For example, all 4 of these cars are getting restored. The Red Pepper XA is getting a GT clone treatment (see the restoration vid). The Walnut Glow XB GS Fairmont Barn find got a full mechanical restoration while preserving the interior and exterior appearance (see the ship out video for that car). The cars we use to build the Mad Max Interceptors are generally the hardest luck cases (see the "No Falcon Left Behind" series on this channel). Thank you watching and for your comment!

you should try for the old gs panel vans where cool back in the 70s
@MadMaxCars7 жыл бұрын
We have brought a few of those here into the states. Not as popular with us yanks for some reason, not sure why because I love them. I have an XC Panel van myself. Some of our good Aussie mates call them "Sin Bins".

Did you source two of these cars from South Australia? One has a SA numberplate. And the XA looks like it's got a SA defect sticker on the windscreen
@MadMaxCars8 жыл бұрын
We do get cars from all over Australia. The number plate is surely accurate to the last place it was registered.

My dad drove a Falcon 500 when I was a little kid, I drive a 65 fastback Mustang now.

Nice! Both cars sound super cool! Enjoy that Fastback 'Stang. Those have gotten so rare here in the USA.

I remember when you could have gotten one of these for $500 and we didn't because there was so many better things around, or so we thought! 😂 Worth a fortune now.
@MadMaxCars6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hear that. When we first started importing these a few decades ago, you could even get a GT for like 9 or 10K. Prices have just gone crazy, like all classic cars around the world. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

What is interesting with Aussie Falcon vs our Ford is also like the Non USA Mopars...Some are really wild when you see name used

That is for sure. Its one of the things that makes them so cool. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

I'm gonna cut across the grain with this comment - PLEASE take more coupes! I'm an Aussie living in the US for the last 25 years, and these were always my fave. Used to have an RPO-83 (basically an XA GT with factory-widened fenders, originally intended for the Phase 4 that never got mass-produced), back in the mid 80s. Wish I'd kept it - I sure can't afford one these days. Now I find I really miss seeing these on the street, so the more you bring here, the better my chances. :-)
@MadMaxCars8 жыл бұрын
Cool!! Thank you for the positive and refreshing comment! We do love those RPO cars, but they are off the map cost wise these days. Didn't one go at auction for nearly 1 Million AUD?
@aussiebloke6098 жыл бұрын
MadMaxCars Probably. Sadly, I sold mine around '90 for about $8k. :-( Never thought they'd get so popular, considering how most people weren't exactly fans.
@MadMaxCars8 жыл бұрын
That is unfortunate. I have sold a few cars that would be unbelievably valuable today if I had kept them. Just the way the collector market is I guess. Several of my Aussie mates have said, in various ways, that the Coupes were sort of like the Edsel was here. Not as well liked as you might think, and couldn't even trade them in so they got sold for scrap to get a down payment on a new car (scraps yards would take them cuz the front sheet metal would go on the sedans also). One of the reasons there are so very few of them these days.

Did they return the cars back to Australia
@MadMaxCars5 жыл бұрын
We do work with people all over the world. and ship cars cars to clients worldwide. That does include shipping restored Falcons back to Australia when someone there wants us to. If you would want, you can find several nice Falcons in our classifieds that are in the USA that you could buy and have shipped to Australia if you like. Including one of the cars featured in this video. You can see them in the classifieds on www.madmaxcars.com Thank you for watching and for your comment!

I love the red XA coupe you roll off at the end. Not to mention the XB's....When you guys first saw these cars, what did you think of? they reek of tough. Gorgeous stance and shaping here.
@MadMaxCars8 жыл бұрын
If you would like to see more of the Red XA you mention, we have restoration show focusing on that car this season, you can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYPZqXyNmZKfaKc Like most Americans we first saw the Falcon coupes as the Interceptor in Mad Max, and as you can expect, were blown away by what is probably the toughest, meanest car on the planet. They are awesomely designed machines!
@MadMaxCars8 жыл бұрын
Thats AWESOME! Thanks for the history. We of course knew some of this already but its always great to know more. Very cool!
@barrybloggs94746 жыл бұрын
Why didn't they ship the 4 in 1 container?
@MadMaxCars6 жыл бұрын
That is actually how we do it most often. In this case the first one was wanted right away by the client, and he was willing to pay the extra to get it in a single container. The other 3 came in with 1 more that was delivered directly to the client, with the rest coming here for restoration. Very good observation! Thanks for watching and for your comment!

I saw a coupe and a Ute at Knotts Berry Farm all Ford day a few years back. You Americans were all over them. Shame you are not getting the modern stuff.
@MadMaxCars6 жыл бұрын
You should have seen all the Falcons at the Ford 100th anniversary celebration in Dearborn. Probably half of the owners in the USA showed up. John Goss came and signed our cars. Amazing fun!!
@barrybloggs94746 жыл бұрын
Are you looking for more? What about Monaro's? I was approached at The Ford Day and people want our Utes. What are your import restrictions. I was importing US cars to Australia, but because our $ dropped and the Asbestos crap, I gave it away.

Coupes have a pillar in the middle, they are hard tops 😎👍
@MadMaxCars5 жыл бұрын
We actually find our Aussie mates use the terms interchangeably, with "Coupe" being the most common usage. So that is why we generally use that description. If it is helpful I did find this definition online: "A hardtop has no B-pillar, which is the pillar between the front and rear side windows. A hardtop can be 2-doors or 4-doors. A coupe is a body style that can be a proper hardtop or with a B-pillar." So it seems it is correct either way you choose to define it. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

It's the Tone Deafs.
@MadMaxCars6 жыл бұрын
If you mean the music, close but not quite. The Tone Deafs are a Canadian Classic Rock band. The band here is Skeedlebronk, a Free Jazz / Rock Fusion band from the USA. They are a Revolutionary Records Recording artist. You can learn more about them at www.revolutionaryrecords.net Thanks for watching and for your comment!
