@richardgrant41818 күн бұрын
@ In the muscle car era, the GTO was nearly a foot longer than Australia’s biggest car the Fairlane. With a bigger back seat and more weight to muscle forward. And it LOOKED like a Fairlane Am I right - only one of Australia’s muscle cars had four doors? the Falcon GT. which was around 1 1/2 feet shorter than the GTO! and with a narrower back seat. God knows how much heavier the GTO was while the GTO lacked just one feature of a sedan, sit one next to a GT and the GTO almost looks like a stretch limo. More important than doors. Getting from zero to highway speed the quickest ever Aus four door the GTHO III got to 60 in 6.4 seconds in the first gen of GTOs, the ones which looked like up-sized Fairlanes every year model from 64 to 68 the quickest ones would leave the HO breathing Pontiac tire dust. They all got to 60 in between 5.2 and 4.9 seconds. Im afraid that the number of doors in a GT, versus the most tanky of the yank tank muscle cars isn’t something we can get excited about Surely a muscle car is about getting up and boogying. whether or not your kids can get into the back seat easily. Back in the late 70's, I was a car groomer for a company who specialised in detailing cars for dealerships, and I had the pleasure of driving for approximately 30kms, a Brand New SS Torana Liftback, with the 5 liter V8 and auto box. From memory the odometer read 17 miles in total when I first got into it, and it may well have been the first one to arrive in New Zealand? It was Orange in color with the SS stripes, and, even though t was new, still had plenty of power, which, as I was young at the time, I explored as much as was possible on public roads. I had the oppertunity to drive a LOT of different cars in the years I was a groomer, but that Torana is one that has stuck in my memory.

3:11 the spec that you are showing is for Charger 770 which is sort of the personal luxury car type rather than muscle car. The Valiant Charger that they used for racing is the R/T model that features 265cu (4.3 L) V8. The reasom for smaller engine was that the heavier engine makes the car front heavy and requires early braking than the smaller V8. So compromised were made.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you got a heap of stuff wrong. GT HO Phase 3 was the fastest 4 door production car until the 90's with a 351 V8. The Charger E49 was the fastest accelerating production car with 1/4 mile time in low 13's and held that record for many years and did it with a 265 ci straight six putting out 302 BHP, well over the 1hp per CI that was the standard at the time. Way more than a Brock VL Condomodore of some 20ish years later. GM/Holden had to shoehorn a 6 cyl red motor into what was a pommy 4 cyl Vaxhaul to compete. The Charger you showed was nothing like an R/T, the A/C Cobra was not a GT HO Ph3, the Torana XU1 was close but you didn't mention the A9X. Perhaps you need to get you crystals aligned, you can do that with a Brock polariser from those silly VL's. Show some respect for aussie muscle dude. Google is your friend. Look up the XA GT phase 4, the E55 Charger, and whatever overpowered under engineered plans GM had at the time. And ask around with some old timers. Your making good utoobs but you might not look so silly with some facts on your side

2:05 Ahh yeah the Plastic Pig. This car is an homologation special for Group A Holden so they can participate in Bathurst. This car is actually continuation of last year Group A SS which is made by Holden Dealer Team (HDT) that is led by controversial Peter Brock. The story goes that Peter Brock use "crystal" to "bend molecules" that makes the car "stick to the road" and this pseudo science device proves to be too much for Holden and they cut off relationship with HDT as their factory racing team. Instead they turn to rising Tom Walkinshaw and formed Holden Special Vehicles or HSV and this is their first car. It has more extreme bodywork to increase downforce and the engine was updated to be more reliable and the car won races throughout 1988... that is in few years Godzilla will decimate Australian touring cars championship.

How did you come to the conclusion a Torana has a V6 in it when they have a straight 6 !!
@anfnifarr6 жыл бұрын
87xfute I've seen this confusion in another video about the Charger, which also claimed it had a V6 engine. The answer seems to be that the video compiler read the spec-sheet which described the cars' triple two-barrel carburetion, which is often written as 6v with "v" standing for "venturi" (aka "barrel' or "bbl") So, a triple two-barrel carby setup is described as 6v induction. Then "6v" gets confused with "V6". Simple mistake by a simple person.

Leyland Aus did a muscle car! No way. Leyland UK only did trucks. I'm watching this in Ireland.

I always thought the Cobra was a poor cousin to the GT HO Falcons. Ford was desperately trying to keep the supercar dream alive.

Very inaccurate labeling of models, the green so called Ford gt 351 HO was actually an XA model GT 351 not a HO. the white GT shown in the drive by was an XY model GT 351 HO

q36spacemodulator XB Mate, but yeah I spotted that too. Serious error.

Yeah my goof, been a long time since I saw one. The place I worked at was owned by 2 brothers who went out and bought a brand new xb gt each thinking that they would be the last. I wonder if they still own them.

That falcon looks like a ford Capri on steroids! Always amazes me how America and it seems Australia can make an engine like a 5.8L V8 and it only makes something like 240bhp lol? In England we make engines that could fit on a dinner plate that produce more than that! And our European V8’s are more like 4L and more like 500-600bhp! It’s almost impressive in its own right to make something so meaty produce such little horsepower

60s/70s pal, what do you expect. More torque, less HP is the pushrod method.

If you believe anything from this video , you are a moron , everything is incorrect, we had ford capri's in Australia with a v6 being the hero model , pieces of shit , but they looked alright

Would you be comparing something like an XJR 4.2 supercharged engine to a 4.3 litre hemi triple webbered six? Don't forget there's 31 years of r+d between those 2 motors. I love both engines but now I can only afford a Jag, as the Chargers are way too expensive.

Then have you ever heard of the GT-HO Phase III or the FG Falcon and FPV tuned XR8s?
@pauljackson3900 Жыл бұрын
You have made several mistakes in this video.. The xu1 Toranas didn’t have v6 motors, and the 1972 Ford GT was not a GTHO.

The A9X in this Video is probably an L34..... or an SLR5000 as they did'nt make alot of the L34 versions The L34 was an earlier Model and a 4 Door. The A9X was a 2 Door coupe , well that's what they raced mostly as the 2 door body shape replaced the 4 door. The A9X ,2 door was the same body as the Sunbird that had a 4 cylinder opel engine. Had lots of fun calling Brett Turner's ( my mate ) A9X a sunbird ...Pissed him off big time ....lol The GTR XU1 was a straight red motor 186 ???? But had Triple Webbers and other racy stuff from memory.They Hammered and my other mate rolled his 8 times near the Coolbellup hotel. Then got just a GTR next which also flew too. Just touch your foot on the go peddle and you where spinning in 360's...alot of fun...lol Hey Thanks for the Video, i was not being critical . Yes some of the models not Exactly match up .I get it as it is not easy getting the video's of the Exact car that you were talking about. But Great effort and i Enjoyed the Video Thanks Mate brings back many good memories .

I'd go even further mate... I'd say the "A9X" more than likely started life as a poverty pack L or SL at best, judging by the standard bodyshell.

Xu1 was a straight 6☹️

So you put two Toranas in the video from which one of them is a 6 cyl and you left out the Monaros. Great. Maybe it needed more cars and should not be named hottest muscle cars just hottest Australian cars

Interesting differences between Aussie and American cars: America doesn’t refer to 4 doors or 6 cylinders as muscle cars - maybe a performance sedan or cruiser, and is date specific. Only 60’s and 70’s model 2 door/coupes are truly muscle cars. Some millennials, gen x or gen y’s may believe later (1980+) cars fit this category but they don’t. Real muscle cars in the US are 1960-1979 2 door coupes with V8 engines and simple fuel, electrical, driveline and suspension systems easily modified for better performance by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge. That being said I love Aussie performance cars, especially the ones that can go around a corner!

I would have thought they would have more H.P and Torque all I've ever owned is American Muscle I've never considered a 4 door car as a muscle car the best looking IMO is the 2 door Ford some of those car's are definitely not "Stock"
