We put two screen defenders on our door for that very reason... one below the door handle, one above...

Yes. Keep the opening starting from the top, so I can peek out without opening the whole thing. Wonder if it can be installed upside-down?

@@skruface looking at the shape of the window I would think that it could be installed in either direction. I also agree that bottom up would be better.

That’s how I installed my thin shade. It’s completely reversible.

Fireman Joe is correct. I installed mine “upside down” and leave a 2” gap at the top. It works great.

The same shade came with my new 2511 Rockwood. I pulled it up from the bottom to about 6” from the top. I never change it, but I can look over the top of the shade to see who knocks at the door without having to open it. JD, the door bar that unlatches the screen door is the coolest rv mod I think I’ve ever seen. I’ve installed several stationery ones on other rigs. Wife will like it more than me. Thanks

Thank you for this upgrade video. Nice to get back to some helpful topics again. I woul emplore you, Lippert, and others to think outside the box and come up with items for units that are not so new like in the last ten years. I having decided that my unit was just fine and dandy after seeing the overpriced units that I was interested in but did not need... Some if the items I have come across will work in units that are "broke in" lol. So many of the items are really ment for newer units... thanks again.

So the whole Thin Shade sounds great, but how do you raise and lower the shade if the screen door and outside door are closed??

It would have been a much better video if you would actually show the install instead of waving your hand around in front of the camera and saying things like just move these clips.... etc.

Those are some cool upgrades you’ve done. my most favorite upgrade was the. Thing shade. We have the leopard screen assist on our 2022 hideout camper that is a cool thing. Thanks for showing us all these upgrades. Have a good Easter.

Love the simple install videos,JD. I purchased one of the screendoor grab handles (not the assisted opener) from Lippert and installed it on my Jayco Eagle fifth wheel. I followed the instructions, but after the installation was completed, I put the step above entry steps up in the doorway and there wasn't enough clearance to close the door. The only way it would have worked is to mount it near the top of the screendoor, rendering it completely useless. I ended up giving it away to a motorhome owner with the older sliding steps. I'm curious to see y'all put the entry steps up and try closing the door. Sure hope it works for y'all.

The shade and screen defender both should be standard on all RVs. The shade for privacy. They're on all the other windows. Even if you don't have pets, the screen defender is a good idea. Kids or just general bumps from loading and unloading or whatever. Cost is cheap for factory to do it. It only takes someone who hasn't done one before about 2 minutes.

Used all of these items from lippert. Love the screen defender, screen shot and screen assist. Thin shade melted on the first warm day in direct sunlight. Pretty disappointing.

have found that those thin shades are the worst! As soon as they get hot, they start to lose their form and then you can’t move it up and down. I won’t purchase it again. But I should caveat that with, it’s just my experience with them.

Great products, and it's only about $105 retail (not counting the thin shade)...which means it must be much less wholesale from the manufacturer. How about manufacturers just put them on at the factory, especially on premium lines. My 2024 Alliance Paradigm has the screen door, but not these add-ons. Why? You're paying $80k+ for a premium RV...and then skimp on things like this. Anyway, thanks for the video!

The real question is why doesn’t Lippert just make most of these things standard features of their new products? Omitting the shade on the thin shade ready window from the factory is just silly, and I don’t think anyone would complain about their screen door being easier to operate from the factory. Seems kinda like Ford when they were using plastic oil drain plugs to save a few pennies per unit…

Well, it's not a Lippert thing. It's an RV manufacturer thing. The components are all available and just need to be ordered by the manufacturer. MANY do include these options. In other cases, RVs that came out before these options were invented can still add them as an aftermarket option.

For anyone without a shade prepped window from the factory they also make a retro fit kit to replace the entire glass, mine was frosted from factory to now dark tinted, and comes with the whole frame and all. Installed with 2 people in very little time and now all my windows match and I have a shade. This was done to my 2018 rockwood signature series TT. Also BECAREFUL with little kids and the screen assist. If you only have the screen door shut and ur little ones come to the door to say hi and grab the bar they can FALL out unexpectedly. I know from experience. Please be careful.

It's a newer style Lippert Door that has an incorporated window that can receive the shade. Like he showed in the video.
