I too used to use forehand grip but one friend introduced me to penhold and I started using it cuz it's grip is so solid that it makes you feel the racket is part of your hand but one disadvantage is that it's hard to reach some angles.

Nice. I have the same grip of Xu Xins, Ma Lin and the curl fingers the weakness of the curl fingers precisely explained and still improving unto it, to break free from its weakness😊 so that's why I constantly switch to another grip.
@shashankpandey83462 жыл бұрын
For beginner's softcore games, pen holds are the best. You don't need much footworks and you don't need to change the grip for everyball. Like you are using same side for both left and right, so it doesn't confuse you so much. While in the other grip, you switch bat sides from left to right. I always violate this situation by playing placing. They are also weak when the ball comes for their body.

Some 50 years ago, I played Penholder in college and many times wanted to change the grip slightly to improve my backhand. I spent a lot of time on my backhand. Topspin backhand was fun! I always wondered, however, if there were Rules prohibiting adding a well formed piece of wood to the back of the blade that would have allowed me to "Grip and Curl" my fingers. Would it be Legal or not? Thank you for your time!
@chimyshark2 жыл бұрын
It is legal as the racket can be any shape or size. The only restrictions are to the hitting surface. You must adhere to the guidelines of blade/rubber, material/thickness.
@celzolsen89882 жыл бұрын
how would you go about adding that piece of wood?
@bryanwells4063 Жыл бұрын
I would recommend a piece towel or similar material but something which is bacteria resistant, or try a thin sheet of cork glued onto the rubber. The only problem is that it might make rpb harder if you put too much cork on, you need to put just enough so your fingers touch, but still leave space with rubber to hit the balls😊

I noticed that too. MLFM only focused on the supporting fingers in the back, but he did the same grip with the index and thumb for all 4 styles, when in reality, XX doesn't wrap his index around the handle, it's just firmly planted on the forehand rubber as is his thumb.

@roman23744 жыл бұрын
RO. B you can be successful with any style. For casual player it’s often better to play Shakehand - since the wrist has less freedom it is also easier to produce consistent stroke. However I would look for what coaching is available where you live! In most European countries you cant find good Penhold coaching, but if there’s Penhold Trainers close by that will be an advantage. Shakehand is very versatile and you find more equipment! Only some product is produced with Penhold grip which is another disadvantage. Hope this could help. Most important to follow your heart and have fun!

Do you have any opinion on a grip in between curled and the two-finger support? The way i play i curl my fingers but not as much as when you played the traditional penhold. I still have two finger contacting the rubber but on the side unlike the two finger support you showed which had fingers almost flat.
@bryanwells4063 Жыл бұрын
Both ways work, I used to play with fingers fully splayed on the racket, then completely changed to Wang hao style but slightly curved, now trying to straighten fingers out again for more stability and rubber contact
