It is said that British accents change every 5-10 miles. My sister and I have a different accent despite being born in the same house. This is due to the county boarders changing in the 70’s.

When I was in London the funniest scene occurred. I was in a bus when a black man got into the bus. He almost immediately started to complain about something. Unfortunately, his accent was from another planet for me to understand what he was complaining about. The bus driver, also a black man, tried and tried to understand what was the first guy was saying, but he couldn't. Then first guy got really angry and started to scream at the driver. Suddenly another person in the bus, a very pale red hair guy, stood up and translated between both driver and passenger. And so the situation was defused without any sad incident. The funny part for me was, how is it possible that two persons, who don't speak with the same accent, can need a translator, with the third accent, that the three can understand, but can not reproduce. It's almost magical that in a single city there could be more than one accent, but certainly in London the situation is out of control if you need subtitles to understand others.

Alreet, so in Newcastle we say ha'way, you need that 'h' in there. I divvint have a geet strong Geordie accent but my mam and dad do, my brother too. My mam uses words like 'yark' that people from other parts of Newcastle divvint kna, but we live in North Tyneside, so my brother's accent and my accent (when I'm drunk or really pissed off at the world) are the same as Sam Fender's more or less, he's from North Shields (which is also in North Tyneside). Perrie and Jade from Little Mix are from South Shields, so not that far from where I'm from.

5:04 We pronounce the "ch" differently in German. In the word "Nacht" (Night) you would have found the correct pronunciation of "ch". But for example, in the word "Nichte" (Niece), "ch" is pronounced completely differently.

I think since I started watching WF I pay more attention to accents and speech patterns. I’m becoming better at distinguishing where people are from and even where their parents are from because children often keep aspects of their parents’ way of speaking even if they grow up elsewhere.

I'm not from UK and this is how I view them as an inexperienced bloke in terms of the UK accents. They are not really that difficult to understand except Glaswegian. Everytime I say difficult, I mean when the accent is very thick. Bristol, Somerset, and Cornish are difficult to understand. Bristol, they sound like they are eating the words, they usually don't open their mouth and enunciate as much. Somerset, everything is just different from what the English I'm familiar with. Cornish is almost like Somerset but there's a lot of texture. Geordie is beautiful.
@NihilistCrab
@NihilistCrab Жыл бұрын
Funnily enough as a brit I've always found Glasgow accents fairly easy to understand (though I seem to be in a bit of a minority) although it can take a moment or two to pick up on the flow once I get my ear in it's an accent I can usually get to grips with pretty quickly. Though there are a fair few thicker UK accents I struggle with at least a bit it's usually dialect that I think causes the most confusion (at least within the UK) as it ranges from potentially more familiar things like "nae" = no to regional words like owt/nowt = anything/nothing that'll get you a blank stare across a good chunk of the country. And that's without getting into stuff like the "breadroll" debate.

Rather woeful attempts at ‘Brummie’ accents by these KZbinrs. I expected better from Lauren as there are some similarities in pronunciation and rhythm between Brummie and Scouse due to the Welsh and Irish influences on both (but Brummie’s better!😂).
