Does it really make any difference how you sound? I'm from Russia and I almost cannot hear the difference in pronunciation 😅 I understood every single word but I cannot repeat them that way. A lot of people in my country are scared that english-speaking acquaintances can make fun of their wrong pronunciation. Is it really a trouble?

To be fair, many Americans can't successfully mimic many other American accents. This is especially true when some try to mimic a Southern or Appalachian accent.

how is an Appalachian accent different from a typical Southern accent?
@anndeecosita3586
@anndeecosita3586 Жыл бұрын
@@FadeToBlack888 Hard to describe in words but Appalachian Mountain people definitely have their own accent that IMO is distinguishable to anyone with a more in tune ear. I have trouble understanding them depending on how thick the accent is, and they also have some of their own terms that other Americans don’t use.,They lived very isolated in the mountains for a long time. I’m sure there are accent videos for them on KZbin
@jlpack62

@@FadeToBlack888 First of all, there are more than one Southern accent and Appalachian accents have developed over a long period of time and strengthened in identity through isolation. You are more likely to find a twangy accent than a southern drawl accent.

Thing is, I don't think there would be very many British people who would ask "Can I have a bottle of water?". That's really American English. "Hate to be a bother luv, but might I trouble you for a bottle of water?" would be more of a Lauren-esque way of asking. Also, probably "Fancy a cup o' tea, luv?" as opposed to coffee. The longer sentences are tough, though, there's a tendency to use RP, Cockney, and Scouse all in the same sentence, and I know it may seem hard to believe, but British people pick up on that quite easily.

The reason is that the key to change for an accent is time, rather than landmass or population. The opportunity for American accents to begin to diversify was born from a pre-existing cauldron of accent evolution. Mostly due to centuries of repeated invasion which really accelerates the process.
