I'm an airline pilot and I sympathize with you. When it comes down to it, most days I'm just sittin' in a chair flying a plane. But it's the schedule that wears on you. Getting up at 3AM (2AM when you account for time zones) is the main thing. No such thing as a "sleep schedule." We sleep we can get it. Our union contracts mandate hotels but there are a lot of times where I think "you know if my airplane had a bunk that was quiet and cozy I'd rather just sleep there and not have to deal with the whole hotel bullshit." I respect the hell out of truck drivers. Trucks are what keep our economy going.

I thought about being a pilot I even have 20 hours logged for my ppl. I ran out of money though, working as a retail warehouse associate is definitely not enough money for the flight instruction :(

That was my thinking when I started trucking school in March of 2021. Not having a wife or kids did make it easier to be away from home. I got lucky though, my first two months I pulled Walmart loads and was home weekly. I was OTR again after that for two weeks and then I was on a dedicated route for the rest of my time at my first company. Went from Cleveland to Dallas every week and was home weekly. Only spent maybe 2 or 3 resets on the road.

@@papabear9481 I meant that in that first year I only did 2-3 of my resets away from home. All the rest I was at home for. Not that I did 2-3 resets a week or something like that. My route was a simple back and forth dedicated route, so I went to my shipper, drove to the receiver, then returned to the terminal for my home time before going back to the shipper.

New subscriber and happy to have found your channel. I worked at Sadlers Travel Plaza in Dunn, NC for several years. In that time my thought went from “they have such an easy job” to “I don’t know how anyone can do all that work everyday”. Some of the best people I met were at that job. Drivers from everywhere. Lots of Prime, Sunshine Carriers, etc. drivers. I was 20 when I started that job and moved back home to VA around 26-27. There’s a few drivers even 10+ years later that are still a part of my “family” who became like second and third dads to me. Some of THE nicest people with lots of knowledge people will ever meet. I just saw your video/channel Thanks for making this video. My special friend is a trucker and this video helped me see what other truckers go through daily. He really likes his job, also. His freezer went out last week. Lost all his food. He is on the road for a couple months at a time. Yes, he has a hard time finding parking spots and empty trailers. That’s the first time I’ve watched your videos for six year driver you did all right only thing I seen but you need to correct smacking in tires with your hand. You can’t really tell if you’re flat or not with your hand by yourself a tire BILLY, preferably aluminum bat. It makes a different sound when you hit the flat side of a tire.

Yes Sir! 55 mph cross winds on a hard packed snow covered road empty. Limited visability, crazy ass 4 wheelers all around you. Trucks in the ditches every couple miles. I covered a lot of highway in my time on the road. My last 16 yrs with the company I retired from, I ran Chicago dedicated, Pittsburgh to Chicago. The winters out that way we’re bitter, flat ground but lots of high winds and plenty of ice and snow.

Dude no BS… this video made me a bit emotional. I’ve had my CDL now for 5 months but finding a carrier that ISN’T 100% touch freight is not easy as most require a year. So I’ve been contemplating going regional to get the experience but that means time away from home. Thankfully, I have a fucking awesome wife who’s been supportive as hell and gave me the green light to just do it because she knows how much trucking means to me. I’ve pretty much tortured myself through physical labor driving jobs to get where I am and she’s witnessed it all. We’ve been together 8 years and I have a 14 year old stepdaughter through her. Going regional will be a HUGE change for all of us but she’s been so supportive. Those meals and coming home to family must be a huge weight off your shoulders every week! I’ve got some thinking to do… keep truckin’ brother!

Been trucking for 5 years now and I wish someone would've made a video as informative as this one when I was researching the industry. You covered a lot and gave some good info. I enjoyed watching you. Bummer about your fridge, your wife I'll bet makes some super yummy and healthy meals for you. Best part was when you saw your little tike and picked him up. That was a "Aww!" moment for sure. I started out in dry van with Schneider then moved to liquid bulk and became a trainer but knew there was something better out there. Definitely have driven all these areas in your video like Bama, Georgia, SC, Tenn, etc. Recently found a local bulk intermodal company and now I'm home nightly and off weekends with better pay and I get to see my 10 year old more often. Thanks for doing what you do and making these videos. You seem like a good guy. Be safe out there. They call me Hambone. ✌

@@GMEN2335 Schneider was a good experience. I recommend them because I found that their core values have been useful and I still practice them with my current company. Safety is extremely important to them and their training is top notch. I recommend speaking with a recruiter and tell them exactly what you want as a driver. I talked to at least five different trucking companies before I decided on Schneider so see what's out there and hear what they have to offer but make it work for you. Good luck.

@@CuriousCat777 nothing is wrong with it. I just think it's ridiculous that it's a law now that a person has to attend a training school to be able to test for the CDL. I learned more training with an experienced driver for a few months than anyone who went to a school. I was way more prepared for the job than any "student" of these CDL mill schools. It's nothing but a way for major carriers to trap new drivers into running their freight for them.
