Chin-ups are great to have in your exercise arsenal because they involve shoulder extension and elbow flexion which means that if done properly, they will effectively target your lats and biceps for muscle growth. In fact, you would see more gains in your biceps if you started to incorporate more chin-ups into your back workouts, especially WEIGHTED chin-ups! But if you are making these 4 mistakes, your progress will be very slow and at times inexistent! When I was having a hard time doing a complete set of chin-ups, I started to do them every other day, regardless what my workout routine was. I used a band one day and the following workout did weighted chin-ups. Eventually, I was finally able to ACTUALLY do proper chin-ups & pull-ups.

@@Horus-Lupercal because you're stronger on the way down, but pulling myself up, with proper form, was the problem. I can see this is an old post. Currently, I only do weighted pull-ups or chin-ups. Hi Scott I did chinups 5 sets to failure yesterday 7,5,5,4,4 reps. Also did good form cable curls for biceps 6 reps at 100 lbs, 8 at 85 etc... I felt a good pump in my biceps but today they aren't sore but my lats and for some reason my abs are really sore. I assume and from bracing the core for chinups and bracing for the no momentum curls? Is this normal?
@andrewpayne50932 жыл бұрын
Pump or soreness doesn’t mean an effective workout. Progressive overload does. Next time you do them aim for more reps and that’s how you know your growing and getting stronger

I always did dead hang when i do weighted chin and pull ups but i was also to focused on getting my chin over the bar. Its good to do that and you should but when you cant get it over anymore just keep going as high as possible until you just really cant anymore. I stopped as soon as i couldnt get my chin over or at the same height as the bar but now i keep going until i just cant go anymore so i still try to get as high as possible but when i cant reach the bar i just keep going as high as i can even when i cant reach the bar and i got soooo much stronger

Hi, Scott! I’ve been using a 5 day Upper/Lower/Push/Pull/Legs split for a while now and I’m considering changing to a 6 day Upper/Lower split in the near future. The volume per workout and per body part may be lower but I’m hoping training everything three times a week will make up for that because the frequency will increase. Is this correct thinking? Also is it best to repeat the same workouts 3 times or come up with 3 different upper and lower workouts?
@ScottHermanFitness5 жыл бұрын
I would have at least two different upper and lower workouts - so each week you could do 1 of the workouts twice - e.g. if you have A and B workouts, week 1 you would do the A workout twice, but week two you would do the B workout twice and so on. Have you looked at my PPL program? muscularstrength.com/Push-Pull-Legs use the code MS7 for a 7 day free trial! www.muscularstrength.com/join
