Thank you so much for introducing this concept! My voice definitely atrophied early on. I'm autistic and one of my symptoms is incredibly sensitive hearing. I keep thinking that people are yelling at me when they're using regular voices. By extension, my voice is a lot quieter because I want to avoid sounding like I'm yelling. More recently, I've been using my voice less and less since I haven't had much need to use it. Speaking has been getting tougher and I never considered that my vocal cords might be atrophying. I'd certainly like to strengthen it again.

Speak less than hour per day (more like week)✔ Voice is quiet or weak ✔ Are basic vocal functions hard ✔ Shy/withdrawn individual ✔ Isolating hobbies, passion, or work ✔ Quiet Household ✔ Period of muteness ✔ I . . . I'm lost 😭 Wish I could put into words how overwhelming this is. Can't even enjoy my lame pun because I feel sick and want to cry.

I picked up doing lip trills each day about a year ago and it really does work! Although I still fit most of the risk factors, I think my symptoms have gotten a looooot better. Also, a quick note about the sustain: if you're recording yourself trying to sustain, many phones and computers automatically apply a "noise reduction" effect. This basically takes any consistent noise over the last few seconds and makes it quieter. So, if you're sustaining the same note and volume, but the playback is drastically reducing the volume after a few seconds, that is a computer effect and you need to turn it off (or if you can't, record with a different device). I'm not sure if sustaining is one that you necessarily need a recording device to make sure you're doing it right, but if you are, just something to keep in mind.

Glad I found you as I was just thinking about this recently. I have an interview coming up and I was watching and recording myself. I have always hated and neglected watching and listening to myself, as I used to be very self conscious. Once I overcame that partially by learning not to care about what others think, so I just spoke how I feel, which does not sound elegant but very jagged, gravely. I also learned a few years ago I have hypothyroidism and may have my whole life, that sure explained some things. So I was thinking about speaking and voice lessons and though of you, and behold synchronicity, your new video topic ;) Thank you.

i recently discovered I''m trans. i had been attracted to transgirls before but over the last few months i've been imagining myself *as* a transwomen more and more not just being with a trans girl, and i had this vivid dream about being a women based on my female fallout 4 character, with the same hair, face, and bodyshape. Her name was Eliza, as a female version of my name Eli originally so i now go by Eliza. But i know one of the things i need to practice is my angry rants and yelling at/berating people while still sounding famine and not slipping up and sounding a man again. My male voice wasn't that deep, but it was still masculine, and me now becoming trans doesn't take away from the fact that i liked being masculine as a man. and I'm 28 now and i learned that the late 20's/early 30's is when gender dysphoria onsets on average, but i had always assumed it was something that happened in puberty like being gay or bisexual (i'm bisexual myself, and yes still bisexual as a transwomen)
@thrivinginamber26422 жыл бұрын
One way to deepen a voice faster than anything is a scream that is backed with everything your voice can muster. Also a severely underused voice can have a higher pitch and timbre. However it's important to note that practice gives you strength, control, resilience, and endurance. Strength being claimed by the masculine, and control a source of feminine strength. I've talked about using deafness in voice modulation, when wearing earplugs, or even talking while wearing earphones, my voice automatically adjusts its timbre because I hear a smaller part of the sounds I'm making. it's really interesting and I highly recommend exploring the effects that safely limiting hearing has on vocal modulation tendencies.
@thrivinginamber26422 жыл бұрын
Oh, I've been all over the board on my vocal usage, with literally years in either extreme, so I have all the tools to use my voice, and a good amount of controlled vocal atrophy to go along with it, which in this field can actually be highly beneficial. Zheanna, even your voice has greatly atrophied in your former lower range, so vocal atrophy isn't one-dimensional and can't be assigned to "good" or "bad"~~

Watching your videos I came up with and understood 4 functions, though the 5th one is brutal but I did it anyway. Accent - I did British yeah? Like, from Doctor Who, Clara the impossible girl and the other one as well that's a bit pepper in her speak. Vocal control - ranging from a high falesto and making a squeaky anime girl voice, two a soft mommy voice and learning how to level those two and find a balance. Although I am no professional I sought to sing and voice act as a guide. Larneix strength - Stretching the Accent and then like learning to change the cords in my throat to soften over strainng them with the rythem in mind. Voice pattern - the ability to recognize the various ways the female repesentive speaks. Like a river and current always changing. Partially spiritual, partially scientific. Finally the 5th I told my brain to shut up or die I am in control of this narrative. You spoke one videoa phrase such as Heat in Fire and Fire in Heat. The Dremah we are heat and fire as well as voice. It's thanks to you and your video that day that lead me to understand this system I've made. And I thank you for that.

I might be doing the exact opposite of under-doing. I'm afraid that for 8 or so years I've unknowingly spoken "incorrectly" (I certainly do not speak for brief periods only), to the point where my throat and vocalization is all kinds of broken - it's scratchy, it quickly gets painful (sometimes within 10-20 minutes), it feels like something's wrong and sometimes no sound comes out at all, it's just air. Overall my voice is not at all comfortable to use and it's honestly pretty worrying.

@wolfferoni2 жыл бұрын
It makes sense that if you haven't used your voice (or any muscle for that matter) for a long time, it'll be difficult to use them again. If I read aloud for a while, my throat gets sore and scratchy, feels like there's a lump in it, and I get a dry cough. I suppose gradually increasing the amount that you're using your voice would help. Making sure your throat is well lubricated (water, cough lozenges), and not straining your voice. Maybe try practice reading aloud every day but avoid pushing past the point where you get the pain and coughs. Then when you feel more comfortable, you can experiment with volume and whatever else.
