It's exciting to start the process of learning to film in my new 'home' in the Kunene/Kaokoveld Desert area of Namibia as I unbox all of my new camera gear and struggle to get going... From humble beginnings great things can grow! But can I learn to film from scratch in such a harsh environment?
This is the story of a year long LD stay in Namibia..... with you in the passenger seat!
Please let me know what you think in the comments section, I'm always interested to know who enjoys my films, and where your from!
My ability to edit these films is entirely dependent on your kind assistance.
Please help if you can through one of the following:

A fellow Kiwi watching from the Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia. Your videos are so amazing to watch, a very raw take on how Covid is affecting other people and nations but you are undeterred by what life throws at you. You are in my favourite country in my favourite vehicle and thoroughly enjoying your adventure in life. I look forward to many more videos on the channel. Stay safe🇳🇦🇳🇿

Ah, gidday Victoria, nice to hear from you and thanks very much for your nice words, its a lot of effort to present it all for others, easier for me to just sit on the footage and memories for myself, but hearing how others enjoy it spurs me on ;) Sorry for losing most of my Kiwi accent, I've been a long lost Kiwi for a few decades now, but still very much a Northland boy at heart ;)

Just found your channel - fantastic! There is something special about Namibia that just gets under your skin. We were in Puros March ‘20 when South Africa went into lockdown so went north to the Caprivi strip where we spent 2 weeks waiting to get authority to cross back into South Africa where we then went into 2 weeks state quarantine. Looking at getting back to kaokoland next year.

Hi Darrin, I'm from Victoria in Australia. And I'm absolutely loving what you are doing in this series. Great approach! Africa seems much more picturesque than Australia in many aspects, providing many opportunities for superb footage. Damn shame about the drone, those shots would have been great. But what I've seen so far, with your editing/storymaking/photography skills has been excellent. Also great to see the personality coming out, really nice touch. Just being you going about fulfilling your dreams in any way you can, really good. Anyways, fantastic work, keep it coming. Nev.

Thanks very much for the message Nev, really nice of you to reach out in a detailed and thoughtful way, thanks ;) Both continents have their virtues, I enjoy being in both for different reasons, Australia definitely needs more Lions and Elephants to compete with Africa for my interest ;)

Watching from Belgium, very much enjoying the series. Good to see someone else took the Covid travel plunge, I left for Sweden when the signs for the first lockdown were appearing to be with my girlfriend, and ended up living there and working from there for 5 months. I feel your charger pain, on a trip a few years ago with my Range Rover I had fitted a 300W inverter, which promptly popped when I plugged in my 200W laptop charger... which reminds me that I should take it out someday and replace it with something decent.

Hi Darrin, love the videos so far and more than a little jealous - the footage is absolutely fabulous, crisp, clean, focussed. Love to see more. Equipment failures are par for the course; can you minimise the voltage changes for the laptop? Belkin used to do a decent vehicle to laptop charger, but I'm not sure how it would cope at 45C!
@roamingyak
@roamingyak 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeremy, I've always tried to avoid inverters, another device to go wrong, but the new apple laptops charge at 96 and now over 130 watts, so will have to get one. At the time I couldn't find anything in Windhoek, and as shown, had to get out to avoid a lockdown. I'll have to get one now, but at least the new apple silicon chips are far more energy efficient, albiet very expensive for a hobby that I make no money from etc

Looking good, can’t wait for the next episode. In your opinion, could a big adventure bike make it on the tracks ( road & 4x4 )around there ? I’m planning to go in June 2022 and my biker friends want to join. Mark, Cape Town
@roamingyak
@roamingyak 2 жыл бұрын
I guess so, but there could be a few tricky parts where you'd need to walk through... overall, less is more imho, a normal 4x4 vs a huge truck, small nimble bike vs a big heavy engine with too much gear....
