I can relate to your avoidance of breaking things down into smaller tasks, and it's great to hear that I'm not alone in finding that overwhelming. Just the process of breaking a task into smaller components is too much for me, it makes me so drained that I'm better off just doing the big thing! But I feel like the world is constantly telling me I'm doing it wrong. Thanks for another thoughtful video Ana ☺️

Ah my purple gem, "Don't be a prisoner of your own life" and "find your ideal ratio of order to chaos" is brilliant advice. I also appreciate the commenter who noted, "Don't fight the river". Peace everyone.

I often avoid watching news because it is upsetting to hear about all the horrible things, like the gun violence in America where I live and the wildfires in states like California. So much bad and sad things. I never thought about the fictional sad stuff being a problem, though I guess I experience the emotions of the characters in books and TV shows. I can get overwhelmed by too many tasks also. I enjoy hearing your thoughts and ideas.

I saw a great idea earlier today: a friend of mine pointed out that we used to get a daily newspaper, and then people would also watch evening news. But it was time limited and only a set times a day, not all day scrolling and clicking to see what new thing was said/done. I think I'm going to make an effort to only check in with news sources twice a day, and leave it alone outside of that.

My best advice is to be an "underachiever". Set goals but allow their deadlines to be flexible. Don't focus on what others are doing or what you think they think you should be doing. Be self employed doing something you enjoy so you're (mostly) happy about your work and you aren't forced to adhere to a rigid schedule. If you're tired and need a nap, take a nap. Have "ideas" about what you want to accomplish, then see if things line up to do those things. (Don't fight the river.) I definitely related to your point about emotionally engaging content. For some reason I got sucked into watching true crime videos. These made me feel afraid as I went about my day to day life. Then, I'd wake up in the middle of the night and spend literally hours wide awake thinking about the victims, perpetrators and how all this fit into society. I'm much better now that I've stopped watching. Ana, I enjoyed the lemons that introduced the chapters and your points (even though it doesn't bother me one bit to have 30 or more tabs open at the same time). I don't associate tabs with work. Instead, they're things I look forward to as art inspiration, a video I want to watch, or a recipe I want to try.

I resonate with the "underachiever" idea a lot! True crime content is quite attractive for many and can become addictive too, unfortunately. A few times, I also found myself not able to stop listening to a series of true crime podcasts to the point that my anxiety got super high.

Hello, my friend! You've really hit on an important topic for us sensatives - what we spend our energy on, and how do we choose, and how to avoid wasting our energy on things that are not actually important to us.

I first listened to this video in the background and found it so helpful, today i'm coming back to rewatch and realise how cute you've made it with the lemon theme! I appreciate the creativity here, but it's also a very useful analogy, I AM a sour lil lemon w limited juice and that's okay! Thank you as always for your positive and sensitive content :))

Wow so recognizable and even helpfull! When I heard you talking about the tabs on the computer I so recognized this! I always feel the urge to klick them away as soon as possible and I get really overwhelmed sometimes when my husband opens a lot of tabs on the computer for example to book a vacation haha. I also like hearing about more people that are being pulled to true crime, this happens to me too and I try to minimize it as much as possible. I sometimes feel sad that literally the only thing I can watch on tv without overstimulation is baking shows, certain childrens programs/films and mild nature documentaries. Even books can be too much when they are overly descriptive or psychologically heavy. Thank you for showing me today that I am not alone in this and that it is okay to be true to your authentic self❤!

Very helpful video. I tend to think about bigger projects in terms of this is the main one or two things I am focusing on this month. And each day I try to ask, what is the next step towards this goal and see if I am able to make progress or note the difficulty I am having in taking just one small step towards it. I also give myself grace when I “miss” a habit or goal. I am very averse to routine; so I avoid it and just do something on my list whenever I decide to do it, unless of course it is a commitment to another person.

Thank you Ana for your video I know it’s good to be in the present and not worry about the past or worry about to far ahead in the future as one is already gone and the other has not yet happened but I also believe it’s very good and healthy for us to plan and have goals and vision of something we may like to see happen I’m kind of in the process of try to make changes I wish a successful year in one way or another for us all

This lemon flavoured theme is gorgeous! I wonder, when you speak about emotionally dense books, do you also mean fiction, like novels or short stories?
@anagoldberg
@anagoldberg 11 күн бұрын
There are different genres and types of books. For instance, classical literature like Jane Austen and, say, modern murder mysteries or very intense dramas have quite different effects on emotional well-being. I used to be a huge fan of murder mysteries, but then realized it was just too much for my nerves.

Being a highly sensitive person makes me great at the job I do (I work with a wide range of vulnerable people in very challenging circumstances) but it can also be hugely emotionally draining. The last thing I want is to become numb to people's struggles but I have to be able to protect myself. Do you (or anyone reading this) have any tips for how to manage my energy? I'm diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome but the neurologist who diagnosed me suggested that's more of an umbrella term and it's likely more to do with my mental/neurological state than any physiological issues.

I'm afraid, I don't have any advice for you, dear Faith ❤️ I always admire people whose work is related to quite intense emotional circumstances. I have a family member who works in healthcare and they are a very compassionate and kind personal naturally, so they do experience emotional fatigue and exhaustion, but try to compensate it with having enough comfort time with family and enjoying their favorite hobbies. There's no way not to be engaged in such professions. And whenever they tell me stories, often heartbreaking ones... ugh, it's hard.

I tend to have lots of browser tabs open. One thing that helps me is to organize them using the "groups tab" in my browser. There is less visual clutter that way. I don't know if all browsers have this feature.

The first point is really true. I would not put books and TV shows for instance at the same level though. Tv shows are jammed with different emotions, brutal events to make us react and ready to binge. It also rely on visuals so the impact of those events is even more palpable to us, at least in books there are just words and we have to make the scenes out of our imagination. You brought up the fact that there aren’t any studies to show the impact that it has on us. There is definitely one and as you said it seems like the majority are just numb to it, it’s quite scary. I believe that we are not made to digest all these content and emotions so quickly

Thank you for this video,Ana,I feel so validated and seen ! 😅 Your tips are really helpful and also are great reminders,since it's so easy to lose track of what I actually need as an HSP and to sort of slip into doing things not-my-way,haha. I'm left handed and have had to make adjustments to a majority right handed world all of my life.Your video made me think,Why shouldn't I also find it natural to make adjustments as an HSP? 😊 And I don't know if this is an HSP thing,but feeling uninspired and underwhelmed makes me feel just as drained as feeling overwhelmed,like the same feeling."Just going through the motions" of anything,from the trivial to the (could have been) meaningful seriously sap my energy every time.I find that allowing myself some measure of spontaneity, in general,works as an antidote that flips my switch back on,so to speak :) "Embrace your inner sourness"-loved that! Haha,it works,too 😅

I can very much relate to your experience with spontaneity! I think it's that very special type of creative energies that when hindered, destroys the feeling of "aliveness". So much overlooked now with the cult of productivity and hustling 😢
