this track imitates the sounds/efx that a skilled DJ would use, at the first part of the record, love it! Cuttin, droppin, backspinnin, those were often-used tricks of the top oldskool DJs, man to see those dudes!! Flippin this fast-ass music, going on and on for a 3 hour set, dropping so many tracks, mixing the whole thing and keepin it hyperrrr!!

2:20 mark = the keyboard riff from Frankie Knuckles' 1987/88 classic "Your Love!" (which was itself re-done into the seminal house classic "You've Got The Love" 1990 by The Source f. Candi Staton) #history

Top choon. Takes you back to a time when it was about peace, love and unity and giving two fingers to them all. Not about the fact your DJ cost two grand to put his name the flyer.

Props to you for uploading yet another classic... Strange, back then I was skint but so very happy, using the little money I did have to go to Shelleys, Fantazia et al, now I've got a good job; earn good money, but I'm so fucking depressed with how mundane life is now. Where did the good vibes go?

This track is as good as it gets. The ultimate meat-filler in a set. The days when mixing was an art, which took years of practice. Now we have talentless laptop technicians thinking they are DJ's courtesy of Serato.
@stevenchampion813710 жыл бұрын
Hahaaa! Years ago we called certain types in the dance halls, warehouses and clubs "gimp steppers" I listened to someone's set the other day (as people were bigging them up all over Twatter) and was horrified. Blatant auto-mix, chord clashes everywhere. Tunes that plainly didn't work together. Auto-mix (or whatever the fuck these klondykes use) is simply laughable. I contain myself

@benfox4638 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Cohen Hey Im 38 and totally talentless! When I was 13 me and my mates were all out doing acid and e's in fields listening to all this stuff, none of us got a GCSE or made any effort to ensure we had stable futures. Then somehow in some miraculous way I went out and made a few pounds with a near zero effort, when I say a few quid I mean I had more money than I ever thought was possible for someone like me to have, (I'd like to add I made it totally legally) obviously I lost it all. So my question is: would you really begrudge a guy like me if I were to get a friend to put a bunch of songs on a computer and have me just pretend to press buttons so I could make a few ££'s? Truth be known (and this is by no means everyone but a high%) most guys who are good at DJ'ing come from a fairly comfortable background where there parents would help them out buying equipment and records. In the past the notion of people being given better opportunities in life purely because they were born into a better circumstances would sometimes irritate me but now I accept it, and I think you would be doing yourself an injustice if you hold a grudge against a guy who is trying to make a quick buck just because you have put years of effort in, and one big reason would be that you loved every minute of those years of effort! and the new DJ has gotten to experience none of that. Man a ramble perhaps I shouldn't have done all them e's in my developing years haha!
@miketodd68988 жыл бұрын
I learned DJing on vinyl, I know it well enough. don't even know how to use CDJs, and I consider it a weakness. Good DJing is about record selection, not technical ability.
@stevenchampion81378 жыл бұрын
+Mike Todd ... by definition, good selection, and thereafter its sound application (cuts etc) is the be all and end all. Without that one may as well not bother. In terms of technical ability, we now find ourselves in an era where the novices are as 'able' as the skilled. In the early nineties there were very few who wouldn't "clang" ever: Bukem, Andy C, Randall, Slipmatt, Hype...the rest...well. So technical ability was a prerequisite when you found yourself on a 20k rig. Nowadays a vacuous doughnut such as Paris Hilton (at least in DJ terms; she may be a wonderful person for all I know) can be as good as Carl Cox at the press of a button. So for many, the waiving of skill via technology dissipates the integrity of anyone stepping up to the decks. I respect you opinion. Believing whether the de-skilling of an art form is a good or bad thing is a rather subjective matter. And if a set is well put together then does it really matter how? Personally, I feel that spending thousands of hours learning the craft significantly facilitates understanding good selection and its solid application. I've heard lots of drum and bass on the radio of late. Much of it is tightly mixed. But with chord clashes, pianos clashing, vocals clashing etc, it's obvious there has been zero investment in learning and / or practice. Discuss?
