In this video I demonstrate how to do 4 different leg locks from Half Guard.
This is one of my favorite leg series. 1 because I love the back step and 2 because it is a relatively safe position for my feet while being able to attack my opponent.
You can use it from Half Guard either as a counter to the person's under hook, or you could even use it offensively by baiting the person by letting them get the under hook.
Thanks for watching!
Chewy

When I trained in mma the same thing would happen lol. Although I don't think the guys who trained for a long tine liked it. Recently I've been thinking of joining an mma gym again

The grips on the knee bars seems to be different with everyone. Its always different from Chewie, Dean, etc.. My coach just tells us to do a double bear hug to shoulders around the heel

10thp brown belt. Short answer - it depends. I like to generally have the foot glued to my shoulder far neck/shoulder but I use the other arm to pull the hell towards me (if you watch the video he rotates his entire body- same concept different grips)

It’s crazy how much the leg lock game has changed in 7 years. Nothing but respect for Chewy but his alternative to the knee bar (the saddle) would most people first move probably and the’d not try doing a heel hook on the secondary leg. I’m sure Chewy has changed his game by now and I’m not saying what he’s showing doesn’t work. It’s just funny to see an old video and to see how much things have changed since then.

Hey guys just have a question.I am still a whitebelt and I was told by blues and purples in my gym that most leg submissions are not to be taught to novice whitebelts like my self because they are too dangerous for someone inexperienced to use.Subs like knee bar, toe hold and calf slice, I learned through youtube but don't use in training since I am scared of hurting my partners.Would this be considered the right mindset?

Look to John Donoher's (i hope I spelled that right) interview with Joe Rogan. There he explains the development of the misconceptions about Leg Locks and their saftey, as well as providing in depth evidence/explanation for the rate and methods of injury for BJJ competitiors, and much other valuable information. But short, no, continue to practice your Leg Locks all the way up untill you can use them in your daily practice. That way youll be the most skilled in your belt class!

Just find a rolling partner who also wants to learn, start slow, and figure out what works. I am also a newbie, but I'm lucky my gym teaches all forms of leg stuff even to us... but I don't use (or at least haven't yet used) them in rolls. Iirr heel hooks are not allowed in competition for whites, but knee bars are... maybe straight ankle locks? Anyway, learn all you can!

The reason why most gym don’t want white belts to perform leg attacks is because they lack control with submissions. Typically because they get excited to get a sub they crank and jerk and they don’t know where the breaking points are. I would suggest learning the entries into leg attacks and maybe even the securing grips that way when you’re ready you’ll be way ahead of your peers.

Wouldn't it have been better if the guy in red had fallen to his right instead of his left, so that he would be on top of the other guy's free leg, thus trapping the free leg?

It makes it harder to finish the kneebar if you fall to the other side. not to mention it will be harder for you to transition out to other attacks. Plus falling to the other side makes it easier for the guy on bottom to escape.

lostoroton The inside sankaku is not legal in IBJJF because they deem it reaping the knee, which is based out of ignorance because you can see it isn't.
@guyger429
@guyger429 7 жыл бұрын
if the leg that that you have entangled is across the body instead of on the same side as your leg is crossing it then it is not a knee reap. I would still expect to get dq'd out of ignorance so I would recommend staying away from the inside sankaku in ibjjf and stick to the ashi garami or 50/50
