Bryce you need to become a DME !

I just took (and passed) the O&P for my A today and I want to say here where interested people are likely to see: study Jeppesen for the orals! I studied both Jeppesen and ASA and I don't think any of the ASA questions came up at all. Maybe 10% of what I was asked at most. Focus on the subjects which you missed on the writtens, but literally memorize all questions for the subject you're testing in. I got a few questions that were outside of the subjects I missed. If you don't understand why an answer is what it is, go find out. As far as the practicals, they have to give you all necessary information to complete the project anyways so don't even sweat it. Be cool with your DME, don't flake or generally act unreliable and like someone who shouldn't be working on airplanes. I was really stressing about it what with the new standards as of August, but it was a relatively quick and painless thing

@@keirisanchez8490 If you have extra time and feel like you already know all of the Jeppesen questions like the back of your hand, then sure go study ASA just cause why not and you'll learn some new things along the way. But yes if you're pressed for time and need to choose one source, I would recommend Jeppesen 100%. I was consistently surprised during the oral portion at how many word-for-word Jeppesen questions I was asked. The oral portion only took about 5 minutes per subject. I had 32 questions in total for general and airframe combined. I got 85% or so on the writtens. You'll have more questions if you did worse than that

You also loose alot of leverage to change jobs if things start to become toxic at your current job. Jobs may take you on right out of school without the A&P with the expectation that your young and your going to get it, but if its 10 years down the road and your trying to get a job without the certs it will be WAY harder. And now maybe you have kids and a wife that doesn't work and your competing with IA mechanics. Brice also brought up a KEY point, even if it was in passing, become financially independent, no matter what it takes, don't have kids, find a woman that is on board with financial independence or at least is ok with it. This isn't even A&P stuff just wisdom for living in late-stage capitalism (I would even say we are past late stage capitalism and into a sort of neo feudalism)

Hey man great video!!!!!!!! However you didn’t mention Bakers School Of Aeronautics. All a student has to do is go through 2 weeks of hell and at the end they will walk away with their A&P. In the first week they will learn how to pass the written tests. The second week they will learn how to pass the practical. I don’t recommend any student study for months when they have this option.

Yes sir absolutely. I have a friend who went to bakers like 15 years after finishing school and finally passed everything. His whole reasoning for not taking the test earlier was that he simply didn’t think he had enough knowledge. Which was absolutely not true. Lol thank you for making these videos. Not many people in this industry do what you’re doing for mechanics.

Recommendations for someone who went through A&P school 7-8 years ago and looking to take the tests now? Been studying for about a week and a half now and I definitely remember a lot, but not feeling too confident if I got a task like fabricating and riveting a sheet metal patch or welding.
@brycebuildsit
@brycebuildsit 9 ай бұрын
In your case, I might strongly recommend going somewhere like a crash Course. Such as Baker's school of aeronautics. If you are close to where you went to school and can go back and talk with some of your old instructors and possibly get a little bit of retraining on things that would also help. You will not have to weld under the a c s or perform fabric repairs. At most, you might have to tie a rib stitch, but not actually do fabric.

Ignore the last part of that. I read fabricating as fabric and riveting sheet metal.

Get your Ass to baker’s school of aeronautics. Don’t try to study anything before you go. They will teach you how to pass the test. Here is an example…… if you see the number 495 in a weight and balance question I want you to think about Dolly Parton……. The answer is therefore “She’s over the forward CG limit but she’s not overweight.”

Hi Bryce. Question: Got my A & P 40 years ago. Been active in aviation ever since, but not wrenching. Can you recommend a way to brush up on basic skills (safety wiring, compression tests, etc.) such that I might move into a position with a flight school/FBO maintaining light GA aircraft? Thanks! I’m enjoying your vids!

I'd probably just go to an FBO and ask to apprentice for a month or so. The only other way I could think of would be to make a safety wire board, do a compression check on your car, and so on. Sorry for the late reply. I feel you could find an FBO that would let you volunteer on weekends or some, especially since you are licensed, just not current

@brycebuildsit

Go over the practical projects listed in the ACS and make sure you are comfortable with each task. If you are not or would like a refresher talk to your instructors and see if they will let you practice. The practical projects are pretty easy and it is required that you read the instructions first. (wich the DME must provide)

Possibly a dumb question. So, I have passed all of my written exams. I have my Powerplant & General O&P scheduled for early December. I seem to be wasting time trying to figure out what codes (AMG037, etc) pertain to which sections? I have literally just been going through my books page my page and highlighting every question that has one of the codes on it I missed from my written. I feel there has to be a better way to go about this? As much as I'd like to just study everything, I feel it is a better game plan to focus on what I missed on the written exams, then branch out from there. Any input is appreciated!

Can people who are not as mechanically inclined like myself still pass the practicals? I am studying for them as we speak. Also, is it really not as bad as I heard people say it is? Thanks!
@brycebuildsit
@brycebuildsit 2 ай бұрын
I think the answer for me is yes, you don't have to be a master mech to pass. For the most part the practicals are easier tasks, check a cable tension, layout a rivit pattern, do a compression test, or check magneto timing. If you can follow the manual and figure it out you will be OK Remember with the ACS change you only have to pass 70% of the practical projects in each section

Could be that I tried to take my Powerplant/General O&Ps in a week for a career opportunity, but Practicals really is the worst imo. I can see why you say it’s easy though, but things like Sketches (in General section) and AD compliance forms really got me. I heard that knowing what source of information to use (Whether it’s the Manual, FARs, or 43.13) and where to find it is vital. Small things like using TCDS’s got me when I wasn’t paying attention to what model airplane to find information on (I was given a packet of TCDS’s and told to find the speed limit and chose the wrong model aircraft for said info). Just some things that I figured I’d point out for those that might want to study. Don’t stress too much on the typical compression check or electrical stuff unless that’s what your written codes say you really need to focus on. Take the codes from your written, still study everything but put extra emphasis on making sure you really understand what you got wrong on the writtens, because it may not be guaranteed that you get those questions on the O&Ps but it is highly likely.
