there should really be a "wavy girl method" for wavies who struggle with their hair because it's not straight nor curly it's just right in between

I found a German website with a wavy girl method, it basically says the same as in the curly girl except that you shouldn't use conditioner too much and don't use gel (too heavy, rather use mouse or something) 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm so upset at the amount of hate she gets just for caring for her hair. Her videos are amazing. I impatiently wait for each and every upload. They are so educational. The videos she makes require so much research and effort, and they're literally the best when compared to other vidson KZbin on the same topic. I loved how deep she went into the apple cider rinse and rice water rinse. Everyone cares for their hair. She's just putting it on KZbin so that many people can benefit from it. But some people just won't stop. Some don't even watch the whole videos before commenting shit on her videos.

@@linaz. no it's not a mental obsession. If her channel is directed towards one topic, then of course you're gonna see most of the videos from that topic only. She has other amazing videos as well where you get to see her personality, and get an idea for what her life is besides all the hair stuff. People literally comment stuff, she tries it for us and herself, and then y'all start calling it an obsession. Have you seen Ayesha Malik's channel, or Curly Penny (Penny tovar) or any other channels dedicated to hair? Will you call them obsessed too? People bully her for no other reason except for the fact that they think they know everything or they know better! Smh!

Lina Z. H Did you even watch the video. She said she is ‘obsessed’ but that’s because she has to keep going for KZbin. KZbin is most of her income and her hair produces that money. She has to keep making videos. If it weren’t for KZbin she wouldn’t be putting that much effort. She’s only doing it because this is her job. Did you even watch the start of the video And bruh *why do you care* whether she’s doing these videos for money and views? Being a KZbinr *is* an actual job anyway? But even if it’s not why do you care whether she’s getting money or not lmaoo.

Monar 0_0 I kinda agree but I have the same type of wavy hair and hair problems as her and she’s the only one who is doing the research to see what will work for this type of hair, as I can’t seem to find any other sources where hair is talked about in more depth than simply using surface free shampoo and not using heat tools so I do wanna see where she’ll find success. But if it’s impacting her badly enough then it’s not worth it and I’d be fine with her prioritising herself instead

I think when you decide to wear your hair natural you just have to accept and even romantize frizzy days. On those days where the hair doesn't form perfect ringlets or waves you could put it up or half up and in my opinion that can look really pretty. When you google vintage portraits, you will find the beauty of frizzy hair, it actually looks very romantic.

Hello! Just want to jump on the discussion. The fact that some oils penetrate the shaft does not mean they hidrate. Oils nourish. Hydration (retaining water), nourishment (oils) and reconstruction (protein) are the 3 pilars of hair care. So, while they are super important, it also super important to understand what for. I dont go by the CGM, insted we have a swedish type of CGM, called "balsammetoden" (the balmmethod). In that we talk about conditioner with proteins and/or moisture. Maybe it exist in CGM aswell? My hair needs moisture and not proteins, so in the beginning when i used conditioner with proteins my hair got really dry, frizzy, and kind of what you describe. Tangled and did not look good. So when i figured this out and now only use conditioner with lots of moisture my hair gets really curly, glossy, minimal tangle and so on.

As a girl with wavy hair here are some tips: 1.Wash your hair with sulfate shampoo once a month to remove the build up. 2.Don't do co washing,it just does more bad than good to wavy hair. 3.Find out your hair porosity. My hair is low porosity so I wash it with warm water while hair with high porosity should be washed with cold water. 4.Put your leave-in while your hair is soaking wet (it will make it work better on wavy hair) 5.Avoid heavy oils like olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil etc. 6.Use not heavy oils like argan oil or jojoba oil. 7.Don't use too many, thick or heavy product. 8.This may be hard for some people but I air dry my hair upside down and when it is 80% dry I diffuse it with cold air. This method does wonders to my hair. 9.Deep condition your hair and do the bowl method. It will make your hair so soft. 10.Avoid drying alcohol 11.Don't do LOC(leave in,oil, cream) method.Instead,do LCO (leave in cream, oil) method I'm still a beginner in CGM so I'm not an expert, but I hope I helped you. It has been 2 months since I started doing CGM and my hair looks amazing and way better than before.😊

Seeing your hair after the avocado oil, it looks like your hair had protein overload. It's sensitive to protein so look into whether it is in your products. Castor oil also causes breakage. Your hair looks like mine when I was using protein in my shampoo, stringy, breakage and dry. Also natural is not always better, since I started using sulphates (your scalp needs to be cleansed for it to grow) again it's the longest and thickest it's ever been. Please also look into your diet if you are plant based it's easy for women to become anemic. I ended up in hospital because of it. I now eat a Mediterranean diet where people live some of the most long and healthy lives and my hair is the best it's ever been.

I've been using silicones once in a while, almost like a deep conditioner, and it helps sooooooo much. So once a month (ish) when i clarify my hair i use a silicone conditioner, then the rest of the time silicone free. But honestly to me it looks like your hair needs to be cut more than anything, my fine wavy hairs do exactly the same frizzy fluffy thing when my ends are getting split or when it gets too heavy for the waves to form properly. Since everywhere is closed for haircuts this year that would make sense for you to have a more .. extreme case i guess? Lol

Made it to the end! Appreciate your honesty SO MUCH. My family thinks I’m completely insane when I obsess over my hair, it happens a few times a year. I check and recheck I stand in the mirror up to nearly an hour just examining all the angles and strands. My perspective of it then seems warped, almost like a form of dysmorphia? (Obvs I am not a doc but it’s an observation) I would almost say it goes to ocd levels of checking. I too thought I was balding at one point until I realised I was actually just looking too much. I have gone through phases of doing so many different masks, oils and treatments etc but actually I am happiest if I keep my routine minimal. Maybe that sends a signal from my brain to my hair that I am not obsessing and so my hair calms down (or my brain does and therefore I see my hair differently). You’re making progress and you’re not alone in how this effects you - don’t despair! I think because you're so focused on your hair, you're striving for something constantly that is unobtainable. Perfect hair just is not possible - none of us have hair that we love on a daily basis, but when you look at someone else's hair, you won't notice the flaws they see, and it's the same with you. What I mean is that when you focus on all the negatives (i.e. one bit of frizz, curls not sitting right) you stop looking at any of the positives. Your hair has got so much thicker, it's looking far shinier and more radiant. With the avocado mask, it does sound like protein overload. Because hair is effectively dead protein, it doesn't really like to be overloaded with other sources of protein, which makes it quite dry especially when left on for a prolonged period. It's similar to what people struggle with when they do rice water soaks. The avocado might work on some hair types, but it might just not be right for you. It's really sad to watch you struggle with this, because I've been there too. For months I have invested everything into my hair growing, focused on it all the time, and been almost disappointed when it's hardly grown. Letting go of that is the most positive thing I've done about it.

I’m sure the amount of subconscious fighting to my hair texture is going to take time to reverse and it’s so comforting to see someone else in a similar situation and navigating this field. I feel as though growing up here in America as a low income Caucasian female that all I was taught about hair was just to shampoo, condition, and brush it out and that’s it. Over 20 years of my life I never even considered hair type, texture, or moisture!! I do this every 3 months and my hair really like this method, it took a year for my hair to improve with this technic ! Here is my advice : you say in your video that after avocado oil your hair are still dry, that’s because they are thirsty, not hungry, you should bring hydration in your hair. I like following this channel because it’s like having someone to go on this wavy journey with. That said real life+curly girl had information that helped me get started on a wavy journey. She has a lot of older videos on what aspects of CGM are suitable for wavies and what is not. She covers washing/clarifying, squish to condish, gel cast, curl envy. I found her videos to be a helpful introduction to figuring out what my hair type is. I didn’t actually get started on a journey until I found Isabella’s channel though because even with wavies out there I wasn’t sure I was even a wavy since my hair isn’t at the same phase theirs is in. I use to cut my hair short as soon as I felt the ends getting crispy or once frizz went out of control. My hair use to grow out straight at the top and would poof out around my ear length. I would brush it trying to smooth it out. I use to gel it down to keep it straight. I didn’t use heat tools because I felt my hair was already too fragile to then add more damage to it. I noticed ringlets by my ears and nape of the neck whenever my hair was wet/damp. I’m still trying to figure it all out to form curl clumps, tame flyaways, find the right gel type and amount for my length, texture, & porosity, and refresh. My waves have ringlet days or moments but also still have stringy, frizzy days. I don’t have it completely figured out yet either 🤗

If you want "long glossy hair" on frizzy hair days, you can have fun with a wig of good quality :) and you let your hair be for a couple of days and maybe it would cooperate more.

I'm obsessed with my hair too it's one of my hobbies finding new products and new methods on how to define my wavy curly hair. I suggest less is more. I wash my hair normally then condition my hair rinse it out but leave a little conditioner in for the moisture get out the shower with soaking wet hair (make sure to detangle it in the shower btw) the only product I use in my hair is mousse. Scrunch my hair with a t shirt put the mousse in scrunch that in let it air dry then scrunch out the crunchyness. My hair has 0 frizz volume and it's shiny when I do this method. I have a lot of breakage and it's very frizzy when I just let it air dry. I have the same length and hair type as you and this method I came up with myself works really well. Once a week (the day before I wash my hair) I get about a tablespoon of olive oil microwave it for 30 seconds flip my hair upside down and start massaging the olive oil into my scalp and leave this in for 1 day. Don't use it to the point your hair is too greasy. Just in case you want to try a method other than curly girl method.

I just want you to know you’re not alone in this. I started my curly journey about 7 years ago and I went through a similar thing to you during lockdown. My hair was matting, half of it wouldn’t form curls at all. It was dry, frizzy and just made me miserable to look at. I try to warn people going into CGM to start slow because it is so intense and really is a full lifestyle change. And I relate to just giving up because I got sick of the amount of money, time and energy I spent on my hair. I truly hope you find something that works for you and brings you happiness!

I’m a life suffering wavy girl too and I have had the same problem with coconut oil. Total dried my hair out! I wonder if the avocado oil is the same, I know that all oils are not created equal, 😄. I did find that olive oil did work better on my hair but in the end I stopped using oils over night and just used a shop brought hair mask, for a morning 30 min hair mask, which worked much better for my hair. 😊

I've made it to the end of your video. I would say stop with the cgm; Your hair type is too thin and fine to constantly take that much gel, amd as the avocado oil goes.. Oils are very tricky, just keep researching and dont get discouraged about your hair. It took me 14 years to figure out what worked for my hair. There is another youtuber that i like to watch for hair advice, her youtube channel is named "holistichabits" i highly recommend it. This is what I'm hearing also about her hair. These are just my assumptions. Her texture/curl pattern is wavy type 2. Her porosity seems normal but I don't know if her hair is natural or colour treated or suffering heat damage/heat training. Her density is thin and her strand thickness appears fine. Without comparing it up close to other hair there is no way of knowing. Curl creams for Type 2: no. Heavy oils or oiling overnight for type 2; no. The longer your hair gets between type 2 and 3 your hair will stretch out. That's why some stylists prefer shoulder-length hair on type 2 and 3. No one has the same uniform curls or waves all over their head. My 4c curls in the front turn into some weird 3a lacking definition in the back. I just work with it. I'm assuming she lives in England which seems to have very hard water: we have to descale everything every week. I don't see her chelating her hair. I do this once every 4-6 weeks. I use Paul Mitchell shampoo three and it is the only chelating and clarifying shampoo that I've come across that can get everything off my hair! It's like a completely different head of hair from one lather. It's expensive but it lasts between 1 and 2 years for me. She said that her hair is very dry. I would recommend for Type 2 hair, wash with a non-sulfate moisturising shampoo every week. If her scalp gets oily use a dry shampoo in the roots or a root rinse to remove the oil. If you have dry hair I would not recommend shampooing more than once a week. I Co-wash but co-washes can be too heavy for Type 2. I do not use tap water to daily refresh my dry hair. I use purified, distilled and mineral-free rose water and/or aloe Vera juice. No one needs daily limescale build up on their hair especially people with fine dry hair regardless of porosity or curl pattern/texture. She needs a daily leave-in but not one made with tap water or made a heavy conditioner or heavy mask. One that sprays a mist will not weight the hair down. I would recommend she deep conditions with a hot towel weekly with a protein-free or low protein hair mask. AS I am hydration Elation is a good one and because its thick she can use only a little only on her mid-lengths and ends. She definitely should not put anything on her roots. I think as a styler she should use a mousse and as little gel as possible. Also putting her hair up in a French braid or French roll and wrapping in a satin/silk scarf will protect the ends from drying out due to sun, heating, cold air and air conditioning. If her roots are too flat she can spray it with the light leave-in mist pin curl or roller curl it and then lightly diffuse it dry. Then leave the rollers/pins into cool down and then spray with a light hairspray and unroll to get volume. You have to know a lot about hair type, styling techniques and hair product ingredients to get it right and you can always learn something new. I saw a trichologist last year and they told me never to braid my hair again except in 2 or 3 French braids. Quite a shock being black and braiding being at the centre of our culture. She simply said although I have a lot of tightly coiled hair each strand is too fine and fragile to withstand the manipulation of braiding. Frizz occurs because your hair is reaching out for moisture. If you keep it constantly moisturises it won't frizz. Also, my trichologists say to throw away all the brushes. Lol! Ok, that's extreme but I pretty much brush my hair once every 4 to 6 weeks. I may use a light brush on the edges and outer perimeter once a week but I definitely do not brush my hair all the way through daily. I use a small bit of styling product if the leave-in conditioner/ diffuser trick does not work on too frizzy bits or bits sticking out at weird angles or odd partings. You rarely see my scalp even though I have fine strands. I have too much density. I no longer put oil on my scalp as I have developed a sensitivity to it.

I really appreciate your videos as I have similar trouble with my own hair and as you put so much thought, research, care, and time into your content. I did want to mention that while I was completing my undergaduated degree, I took a costume design class, and we talked about hair and how it affects our judgement of others. I wish I could find the particular study, but it basically said that when we see others, we immediately judge them "top-down." So basically we judge people based on apperance starting with their hair, then face, then body/clothes. For me, this informarion supports why so many of us can get upset with our hair (and appearence). Not to mention, at many places of work we are all supposed to look clean and neat. It has been difficult for me to deal with this when I have to work on a bad hair day, but just want to let my hair breathe or do its thing. All in all, I just want what's best for you, and if that means taking a break from curly girl or modifying how you are documenting or caring for your own hair, then I am all for it.

i don’t think you should keep going with the curly girl method. i understand you started a whole series about it, and you keep saying that you absolutely have to finish it, but i think i speak for most of us when i say we really don’t mind. if having bad hair affects you and your mental health so much, then why keep going on with it? it’s clearly not working, and i don’t think it’s going to get better. the curly girl method really works for much more defined and tight curls, not waves like yours. i myself have 3c type curls, and even my hair gets a bit frizzy with that method. i don’t think it will ever look good on your hair. i understand that the majority of your income comes from those hair videos, but i suggest you keep doing hair videos, just not the curly girl method anymore, it’ll just create more and more frustration on your part, because you seem to put so much effort into something that just won’t work. just an advice because i more than anyone would understand the frustration that come from hair not wanting to cooperate lol. good luck with your journey.

I use a product from aussie called dual personality on my ends and lenght. I apply it when my hair is blow dry and than keep it to air dry the rest of wet hairs. I don't like silicone on roots so I'm not touching them. Find the things that works for you. It's a great idea to take advice that work for you from curly gurl method and other methods. You don't have to follow just one religiously. The cgm really helped me finding solutions. But when it starts with the rules it's weird. So I am not saying that i follow cgm but i say that i'm really grateful for the advices i read there.

when I’m having a bad hair day and my hair is feeling super dry and is poofy I would dampen it a bit then add a bit of leave in conditioner then brush my hair and do two dutch braids. If you have medium to long hair it’s a great way to look representable and feel good about your hair. Also I suggest sleeping with the braids on aka keep the braids for a whole day. It tames down the fluff the next day. Ps my hair is kind off similar to yours .

I think the reason curly hair and wavy hair looks different, for what appears to be no reason, is because of the way that it grows out of our scalp. Think about it. Straight hair grows straight from the head all the time. It never changes direction. Curly hair comes out of the scalp in a spiral. It's constantly changing direction as it grows. I think that's why our hair can be great for one week, and look bad the next.
