In this video I talk more about budgeting, what to expect in restaurants, what to expect when moving or traveling here or even if you're retiring to the Philippines. Also, I cover four very important things you need to know about Philippines culture.Philippines culture.

Just found your channel, thanks for the great content. You mentioned in another video that you’ve had a couple gfs. Perhaps you could talk more about that and dating in the Phil. I’m considering visiting next year. Thanks again.

Establish a budget and stick to it. Start at home where you are now with a financial spreadsheet as it will help instill both budget and savings discipline, as well as building confidence. You will find yourself saying no to unnecessary purchases, as well as eating at home more often. Never provide loans and never borrow money in the Philippines. Lastly, practice not being so damn sensitive. You can lose nothing by simply walking away from a potentially bad situation.

@KrayPurn I met an expat when I first got here. The guy claimed to be making all this money with his business here. One day he called me and asked me for a $500 loan! My answer? Sorry man...." I guess he thought that because he was also a Navy vet I'd loan him money when I had only know him for only a few months at the time. I would take it a step further than you and say to never loan money to ANYONE here unless you've known them for years. My policy on loaning money has always been, "It's a gift. You don't have to pay me back." If I can afford to loan it out, then I can afford to lose it. Preserves the friendship.

Ahhh... Ferndale. 30 Years ago I had relatives all over that area & visited often... I'm up in Crescent City... for the next 642 Days if my Retirement plan doesn't have any "hiccups"... I have a Tagalog language course sitting on the bookshelf to start soon. Years ago, being around OFW Nurses that worked with my Grandmother I picked up a few words & phrases, that have since evaporated.

@tedjohnson4451 Lessons on Skype are good too. I used to take one hour a week of Cebuano on italki when I first came here. What I liked about that was that I learned a lot about the culture as well and it really helped my pronunciation.

Kendall, I enjoy watching your videos. Always great content... Are there any things that you would have done differently when moving to the Philippines? Did anything surprise you even after you had been there in the past before moving there?
@GallivantingKendall
@GallivantingKendall 9 ай бұрын
@davidnettles8138 Thank you! I think the thing I would have done differently would have been NOT moving to Lapu-Lapu City first. I felt too isolated and crowded. It's very congested and the traffic is terrible. The traffic moved so slowly I felt like I was back in LA at times. And it took a long time to get from Mactan Island to Cebu. Just getting to any one of the 3 bridges could take 30 to 45 minutes. I found that most of my life and the things I liked to do were on Cebu Island in or near Cebu City. The thing that surprised me the most and still does is the amount of people who don't speak English. When I was in here before, most people spoke English well; probably because there was a Navy base that had been there for several decades.

At some point, yes. You can look up Michael Onstad on Facebook. He posts in the expat forums too. He's an American expat insurance broker who helps us get insurance. He's an expert.

Kendall, did you acquire your dog Ally in the West & bring her with you or get her in the Philippines? If in the West, what was your process & logistics to do so? Might be a good topic for a video because I have found nothing about this on YT.

I brought her with me. I know what you mean about not being able to find anything about importing your pet. You can definitely expect me to do a video about that whole precedure in the near future.

Arguing, getting mad and making a scene in public is a huge no no in the Philippines. The culture is very respective of each other and acting out and being too expressive (as most westerners do) is considered an embarrassment by Filipinos. If you're an expat and you're thinking of living in the Philippines you must be mindful of these things. And you made a good point of a joke you made to that salesman who didn't understand your joke. He took it as you were embarrassing him in public (I would imagine) and that's why he gave you that look. Understand the culture, the norms, the idiosyncracies, and by all means come and take a trip to the country first instead of taking a leap of faith. It can can you of headache.

Finish Tell them about the constant Lying most of them do? About Everything Allll the time. Why no mention of that? 2) The off the charts gossipping and sht talking about everything, everyone? Alllll the time. Why no mention of that? 3) How Everyone has zero problems trying to take you for bad financially? Because you are just a foreigner who is Rich, so it's just money to you I hate it when some of you are so azz kissy and fake that you only talk about the good things, vs Everything? No place is perfect, and even great places have not so great things about it. Yet people like you Never tell entire truths? Just the things that make places seem perfect? WHY?
