4 reasons to love (or hate) Operation Mincemeat

Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre is a musical that so many people have talked about. Finally, I've gone to see it and these are my impressions.

One thing you mention is that it was inspired by the TV dramatisation. Actually it wasn't. This was written way before the TV show happened. In fact I went to see Felix Hagan play live in around 2017 or 2018 (he's the guy that wrote all the music for the show and the only member of Split Lip that you don't see on stage). Anyway, at that gig a few of the actors went on stage with Felix and they performed Born To Lead.

Ahh so interesting how we all listen to it differently. I really struggled with both Operation Mincemeat and Sylvia not to see bits of Hamilton inspo in them. But agree…definitely a fun show to see! ☺️

Glad you enjoyed it sooo much! 😊 don’t get me wrong, I also enjoyed the show but wouldn’t call it the best thing I’ve seen cause I don’t really feel connected to the story and that’s just a personal preference. All the guys from SpitLip are absolutely incredible!

This sounds good 👍 I went to see I should be so lucky at the Manchester Opera House today, it’s on tour and got many stock aitken and waterman songs - completely cheesy and nostalgic it’s fab hope you see it sometime if your type of thing 😄

Yes! That reminded me of Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton too 🙈 it was fun but I couldn’t help not to draw this parallel.

I respectfully disagree. I had a stalls ticket for this show and had an awful view. Also the theatre is so small for such a popular show it was a nightmare to navigate. Packed shouder to shoulder in each communal space even ages before the show started and the toilets were so tuny that if you wanted to leave them after using the whole queue had to move to let you out.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that! Where did you sit in the stalls? I had a great view from the stalls but I do agree it is a smaller than usual theatre, especially the toilets! Completely forgot about that but yes that was pretty bad!

You popped up in my feed because you don't have many comments, I don't know what the rest of your channel is like (and I don't care yet), and I want to offer some seemingly tough advice. Just delete the comment if you disagree enough! Your review is somehow biased in both ways (for and against). And that isn't good. You're clearly going for clickbait from the title, and then not adding anything valuable for anyone. It's okay to have opinions, it's okay to voice them. No one ever gets famous by playing it safe. I'm genuinely not saying this to be mean, honestly, watching this felt like such a terrible waste of time that I have written this comment so that something could possibly be added to the world. So, in that theme; We only know Hester's real last name and she only became a real historical hero because of this show. Fans banded together on the internet to find out about her. And now she will be remembered forever. Look her up! She's wonderful and a vital part of our history

Sorry to hear you haven’t enjoyed my review. Don’t think your interpretation of what I said is quite correct - I said that the movie was another dramatisation of the same historical event and that the most roles in the musical were gender reversed/neutral - as in women were playing men and vice versa. And then Hamilton reference was just my personal observation…I think it’s quite apparent that I’ve enjoyed this musical very much and I included it in multiple best to see round-ups so sorry if that didn’t come across when you watched it. Either way, we are all allowed to have our personal opinions and preferences. 😊
