4 reasons why Motorcycle Training is important

After being invited to participate on a workshop by ACM (ACM2R.COM) I've decided to make a video about the importance of training on-road (or offroad) riding skills with instructors and schools.
So here we have the "4 reasons why!"
I believe that the ratio between money spent on upgrades and parts vs the money spend on learning and training should be quite different than it actually is, at least from what I can see here in Portugal.

self taught - there's a broken bike, most parts are in the basket - whats not there you'll figure something out about 7-8 years old self build a small engine motorbikes, then teach yourself to ride them, steep woodland land and small rivers, passed my tests, used a stock road bikes and super sports for years in the woods best place to learn control - great video enjoyed it

Thank you. I bought my first motorcycle in 1964, a 250 Ducati scrambler, so I have more than a half century of "Experience". When I moved from California to Oregon, I let my motorcycle endorsement expire. To reinstate it, I had to take 2 knowledge tests and a one-day riding skills test. I passed, but I discovered I was not very good at low-speed control. It was somewhat humiliating and challenging for a guy with my so-called experience. I learned a lot that one day. I'll probably go back and take those skills test again in the near future just for the heck of it. Have fun.

Interesting story! Ubnfortunately, your case is not alone. Have you ever tried to take an advanced class or something? it should be very fruitful =)

It probably would be a good idea. The riding skills test I took was oriented towards street riding --- Sitting down, feet resting equally on the pegs, leaning at the same angle as the bike. Much of my riding has been off road where I might find myself standing, more weight on one peg than the other, leaning the bike at a different angle than my body when going slow. The techniques they were teaching felt odd to me at first. I guess I never did much slow riding on the street. By the end of the day I was doing much better. Learning is a lifelong process. A condução intuitiva pode ser um conjunto de más manias muito difíceis para depois desaprender, além de por vezes nos meter em situações perigosas ou simplesmente parvas, sem necessidade alguma. I must agree. Because I was fortunate enough to have a training day with Diogo last week. Learned a lot in just one day! Highly recommended! Now it’s practice time. And still a lot to learn.

Good video as usualy. It is as it is, a training is good for everybody, even the experienced. I often saw that in offroad riding when I use my experience + the advantage to be 2 Meter tall to compense missing skills with that :) It works often but it needs much more energy than simply know how to do it the right way. A Offroad training provide me a lot of simple skills to solve several situations more smart and less enrgy consumpting. Conclusion: Even if you are super experienced, you still can learn something!

Couldn't agree more, seeing my g.f. whisky throttle her self into a ditch and to a fractured arm yesterday on a gravel descent I blame my self a bit for not being more stubborn on doing more training with here on the things she don't like... ,...but it's normal for us all I guess to focus on the things we are good at and avoid the things we suck at... Hey there man! Most of the footage for this video was shot by Pedro (the guy that invited me to the event) his camera costs more than my bike and weights more than my boots :D But lately (8-9 videos ago?) I bought a gopro10 which I use as my "stationary camera" and its definitely better than the phone camera I was using :)

My mom said she would pay for training if we found something we liked doing and wanted to improve. She sent us on tennis lessons anyways. The only other sport with training may have been skiing.

O melhor "extra" que podem comprar para as motas! Gastamos muitos € nas nossas motas, se evitarmos quedas e mazelas é o dinheiro melhor gasto de sempre no que a motas diz respeito. E não pensem que é só para iniciantes ou maçaricos. Se tiverem humildade todos temos muitos erros básicos e vícios a corrigir com estes cursos. Fiz ambos cursos da ACM e a pensar em repetir. Tenho de encontrar o tempo para fazer uns cursos com a BN Adv...

Doesn't the driver training in the EU make sure people can at least handle the bike? Here in Sweden it's annoyingly difficult and cost a lot of money unless you're a natural or spent your childhood riding.

Here they teach young riders enough to get a permit and go get killed far away.

Yes and no. Riding exams in Belgium for example require a 12 hours riding course, which is expensive but extensive. However, they are still the basics. However, real experience comes with riding the motorcycle and challenging yourself. I went on the highway searching for queues just to practice my filtering in my first month's, or looked up some light dirt tracks. But not everyone wants to get out their comfort zone.

@@henrietn well, I’d love a system where there’s a set course with items to tick off. Here it’s low and high speed tests that can take weeks to learn if you’re new to bikes. Spending like 3-4K euro for a license isn’t the best way to spend your income.

When you get your license it usually comes with a few (usually 10?) Free lessons, but 80% of the time is spend making sure you use the blinkers, respect the priorities on intersections, and can do the dreaded 8 figures (cause they usually test that during the final exam). You learn a lot of course, but not nearly enough. It depends on the instructors as well, but most of them are car instructors that end up having to teach motorcycle classes as well. So...not very bueno :D
