Getting rid of the toxic people in one's life is an absolutely amazing feeling-- I had done the same back in 2016 divorced my wife due to her emotional abuse, have built the best relationship I could with my 2 children, took my career to the next level- and my bull sh... meter has been quite heightened and has kept me safe for not falling into the same horrible relationships afterwards- nicely done.

The number of men I’ve met who think they are never in the wrong and cannot ever apologise for anything is unbelievable. So many men are so full of pride, ego and arrogance - “it’s never me, it’s always her at fault”. I can apologise and realise when & how I’m wrong. The men, rarely ever. More in-love with their own ego than anyone else!!!

Always listen to your dog. My last partner and I had instant amazing chemistry. I fell hook line and sinker in love... until I discovered months later I was with an insane narcissist. I should have listened to my dog because the first time my ex stayed over and was showering in my guest bathroom my sweet wonderful dog... crapped in a circle in front of the closed bathroom door. Something he had NEVER done before or since. I wish I had listened to my dog as he was absolutely correct. I could have avoided my ex’s mental instability, his drug addiction, attempts on my life, restraining orders, court dates, etc. Thank you Stephanie Lyn for all of your fantastic videos. They have been a godsend 🙏🏻

@@kmc7062/ ha, haaaaaa.......that's a good one. Yes, dogs are special creatures, especially when you develop a special bond of trust & love with them. Not all people are capable of this & I had a similar experience with my narcissistic girlfriend, who questioned & criticised the bond I developed with my dog before I met her. I grew up on a farm, & it has always been a joy to appreciate animals. They have qualities that most people don't, that's for sure.....& YES, these videos are spot on, as others are as well.

Being comparable, having the same beliefs and values it’s KEY! A relationship can’t possibly last if you have to constantly argue about each other’s behavior and way of living. From a self love content creator to another; great topic, great tips Stephanie!! 💕

How these tips worked for me: 1. We share the same lifestyle GOAL. That was most important to me. There are other things in lifestyle that I want that he doesn’t care about and vice versa but I needed this 1 thing to be there in a relationship - I needed to be with someone who wanted a wealthy life and will do whatever it takes to achieve it. 2. He right away told me about what his “stuff” was and I told him I aggressively seek help for my mental health 3. I think she explained this very well 4. It should feel easy. Yes. It’s hard to explain. It doesn’t mean arguments are easy or nothing bad ever happens. It just means the relationship IN GENERAL feels like it’s easy to be open, honest and yourself. You don’t walk on egg shells or tiptoe. And when things DO Not Feel easy, can it be resolved in a healthy way and both people feel easy again? This one was one I didn’t realize was a thing until I found an easy relationship.

My boyfriend and I been dating for a year (met through the pandemic 😷) and I feel this ease with him and I don’t feel like I have to jump through hoops to keep the relationship alive. One thing I like to tell my friends who always tell me they keep ending up with the same kind of people and it’s a constant dead end-be like George from that Seinfeld episode where he does the opposite of everything he normally does and things finally start to go his way. I chose to date the opposite of what I normally looked for, looks wise. For example, I’m 5’10 and he’s 5’5. I always told myself I would never date a shorter man cause society told me that wasn’t acceptable. But conversation with him was so easy and he was in all other aspects, very much my type. His smile made my heart flutter and his laugh made me laugh. I’m pretty determined to marry this man one day. Life is just so easy with him.

Stephanie Interesting video. Your introductory statement of “owning your stuff” is the keystone. The expectation of course the partner “owns their stuff” too. Yes, you brought that forward yet there is so much more to that simple statement. I feel there are a couple of dots that need to be connected in the context of that statement. First, it is a vital imperative “you” own your stuff, and it has to be “real” stuff. Context is important here. I am going to use MBTI language, it is well known and easily referenced for anyone wanting to learn more. When I say real stuff, the context is the real you. Not the “mask” your projecting. Equally you must be able to recognize if the other person is owning their stuff or supporting their projected persona. Owning self = good, projecting stuff = bad. One must understand the basic mechanics of your personality, strengths and weaknesses; Introversion/Extraversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving. These are not good or bad, right or wrong they just are who you were created to be. Hear what I said there. You are wonderfully made, perfect in your being, both strength and weakness’s. We get in trouble when we try to operate in our weakness as if its our strength and visa versa. Stephanie, the example you presented about Christmas shopping and how it drains you is the perfect example. Understanding and owning that, i.e. being an introvert is vital for our own personal health and wellbeing. (being secure in who we are stops the guilt projection of others) For those that may confuse the word introvert here, the context is one who draws their energy from solitude. On the contrary an extrovert draws their energy from being with people, lots of people. There is an inverse proportion to this, an extrovert will find it draining to be in solitude etc. You must own and communicate this about yourself to allow for a proper establishment of expectations with whomever you are with. Do not fall in the trap of “the other person should just know”. This is a perfect example of not owning your stuff and expecting the other person to own it for you. Here in is the conundrum, is it because you do not know what you do not know or, are you patiently playing a game to take what you want. I am refereeing here to a closet narcissist. Absolutely imperative you pick up on that and ferret the truth out. I do not want to induce an unhealthy concern or fear. Facts are pretty basic; at the beginning of a relationship you own what you know. Once in a relationship you learn about your partner and yourself and you own what you discover and grow together. As Stephanie has brought our multiple times the emotion part of “in love” can be very overwhelming to the point of cognitive reasoning interruption. Therefore, it is so important you surround yourselves with friends who have the permission to talk into your live the hard things. Do not, do not become isolated in the “Infatuation stage” where many decisions get made without perspective and are very painful to recover from. The umbrella over all the points brought out is a position statement. Can I be for you, not against you? As we become one, the uniqueness of you and your qualities do not dimmish but amplify the greatness of us. It may sound like I am saying “am I willing to serve you”. While service is a component of that it is not the core. “I am for you looks something like this. I want you to become all you excel to be and are meant to achieve. I will build and protect a space just for you, to be you. If you set out and fail you will not embarrass me, I will pick you up dust you off and send you on your way again. Should you decide what you tried is not what you thought and in fact it is not where you should be, I will not be disappointed but celebrate with you the victory of discovery. When you cry and I do not understand I will standby humble, not imposing my will but wait for you direction. I will stand vigilant when life has made you vulnerable. I will celebrate the uniqueness of you when the tough times leave you to indifference. The focal point I am vainly trying to contextualize is the personal choice I commit to - “I choose you” I am for you. BUT………. This same commitment must be reciprocal. If the reciprocal is not present the relationship will be hollow at best and fail at worst. The commitment in principle is the same, the delivery of the contents will be unique based on the individual. Now the contents brought forth in this video have a place to land and make impact on choices. In my experience this choice is the binding of a relationship. If both parties cannot individually commit to this even the similarities will not hold a relationship together. Over the years the ebbs and tides of life will cause people to drift apart or crash into one another, either of which is devastating, The anchor or binding is owning and communicating your stuff, good bad or ugly in the commitment of “I am for you, not against you”. Keep up the great job Stephanie, love you work!

Thank you for this video! I'm just getting back into the dating world and was kind of nervous about doing so. The things you describe are what I'm looking for and it feels good to hear them. I actually had a conversation with someone online this past weekend who I believe had a bunch of narcissistic traits along with gaslighting and boundary issues. I noticed it quickly in our conversation over text and put the kibosh on it. I was super proud of myself. Choosing my needs over some jerk. Also, it's interesting, the things you are talking about I see the opposite in my some of my friend's marriages and it's not working for them after several years together. Sometimes I feel left behind being single but I think I see things are happening in my favor.

Stephanie, as i am a very sensitive person, and an Empath i fully understand the need to some quite down time to recharge after being in a noisy, chaotic atmosphere. I have had partners that could not understand or respect that part of my personality and it created a lot of conflict in those relationships. I believe a relationship should have respect, trust, emotional maturity, communication, shared and common values, honesty and a willingness to not need to always be right or the " winner" in a disagreement. If we are partners in this relationship then we need to be " shooting at the same goal" and not just wearing the same team jersey , but shooting at different goals.Laughter, a sense of humor, and not taking yourself too seriously also helps in communication and not becoming too defensive over every darn thing. If you can't enjoy the relationship, then why be in the relationship! Thank you for your guidance and wonderful advice. Take care, and be well.

It's also a good check to see the person under stress. 1) amusement park, a 'feels dangerous' ride (the Slingshot in Orlando, or a very high-speed roller coaster, or 'sudden drop' ride, etc) 2) take a weekend vacation and purposely book the room in a shady hotel in a sketchy part of town 3) go to a very exclusive restaurant, have a friend of the opposite gender show up and allow them to join the meal 4) call and say you're out of town for the next two months due to a close family member falling ill And check the reaction of your 'chosen one.' If she cannot handle the stress of those situations, you have learned something. Very few people ever purposely check the 'stress-handling' skill of their flame. It's a shame because if you take on your partner, unexpected drama 100% will occur from time to time and it's best to find out now how they respond. Some people really display dramatic changes in personality under stress.

I listened to your trying to forget your relationship video - getting over a past relationship- and after watching this video I find that the person I am trying to forget is the one- as all areas you addressed in this video we hit perfectly even with some hiccups at times- so learning patience, I feel is something I truly need to understand and work on and I guess maybe having faith that if it is meant to be we will cross paths again in the future. We our best friends and the relationship we have is something we have never had in another of the opposite sex separate of the actual romantic relationship we did have. I fully understand (being a therapist myself) that her self healing is needed due to un-wiring her brain from the years of manipulated abuse etc over 2 decades of horrible men/marriages- myself is building trust and understanding that not all women were like my past relationships.... we did not life together - but we do truly love each other and it is like we have known each other forever in a spiritual sense - if that makes sense..... so I sit back and just will work on myself and understand that patience is Key and when timing may finally be right, Christ will bring us together again- got to have faith.....Thank you for the video

Most, in my opinion, relationships are narcissist and empath (fuel) related. This was true for myself as well. Then you get healthy, centered and balanced and discover that you can really only be in a relationship with someone like yourself now. Neither controlling nor controlled, but just healthy and well. And guess what? There are almost zero such people. So, ya pretty much spend the rest of your life single it appears. Lol. Just thought you kinda skipped that over a bit. Now you know the rest of the story. 😁

I can agree and disagree. Sometimes opposites really do attract and even though you don't really have too many things in common it's the middle ground that keeps things strong. 💚

There is a difference in compatibility of values and compatibility of personality. Valuing say loyalty or compassion above making the most money Needs to be similar Not the same as night owl vs morning person which may make socializing awkward but child care easier Or one person being outgoing and the other shy, one being good at scheduling and the other at spontaneity. Yes, those are the differences that can make things better.

are there any videos that "spot" it earlier on? This speaks about long term relationship, but I'm struggling to see through the fog of "chemistry" vs compatibility earlier on, ex: 3 months. Or what should we look for in our feelings in the beginning?

Can you do some videos for people who have been married for 15 years or awhile , like how to fix some of the emotional unavailability’s??? Please. Or how to build a life if you decide that you have to leave? When you’re a stay at home mom forever it’s like where do you go to work??

How important is the chemistry part? Could a relationship last if one person has chemistry and the other person doesn’t ??
@mikesteinmetz93634 жыл бұрын
I've always done my best to treat people the way I want to be treated the sad thing is you get in a relationship and there are people that are corrupted twisted up with issues and they hide them from you they're not only not honest with you with their partner but they're not honest with themselves and that's very sad 7 years of dealing with a narcissistic person Tim still not realizing that they have so many issues this is so sad but I'm in a very good spot I'm happy I'm healthy I'm going forward and that's the important thing and if I find a person that meets most of my expectations that would be great they don't have to be perfect they just have to be human and real

What about when a person is all these things, but you just don’t have those butterflies, that excitement, in a new relationship (9 months) It’s my first healthy relationship, with a really good man, I keep hoping it will come.

I don't know if I'm worrying about the kid stuff too early. I'm 26, he's 28. He wants kids, at this point I'm pretty sure I don't, but I can't imagine us not being together either. Neither of us want them short term as we're still trying to figure out our careers. All the other check marks are met. My therapist suggested it might be too early to worry about that as we've only been together a year/are both still young and that either of us may change opinion in 5 or so years. I'm taking that advice but still terrified that it could be very painful down the road.

One thing I didn't do when I was your age and wish I had... Was listen to my gut! You cannot change someone and their wants kids/ no kids is a big deal! Being on the same page is important.

At this point my dogs are the ones. I nvr thought I can love someone this much as I love my dogs . Also other animals. I swear I love animals more than people. They are so vulnerable. People are not. If I had the money I'd sacrifice my life for animal care and not for some dude.

How does the guy I am trying to leave handle me when I am "too much"? Him: "You are crazy. What you said is stupid. You are dumb. You are trying to control everything." and he also loves the silent treatment for days, even weeks.
