Okay, I love what you said at 3:27-4:17. "Learners only need the minimal amount of information necessary in order to perform a task....Evaluate whether or not that knowledge you are providing actually benefits better performance or not." I love that you advise us to remove content that doesn't benefit the behaviors when our goal is performance. I have a tendency to be TOO thorough. This is helpful for me.

Tips 1-4 1. Clicking doesn't always create meaningful interactivity. (Shoot for interactions that engage critical thinking & choices) 2. Knowledge and Behavior aren't mutually exclusive. (Ensure that all included content improves performance. No filler or fluff). 3. eLearning isn't always the right solution. ("Blasphemy!" - my quote, not Tim's :) 4. eLearning is so much more than instructional design. (There is also graphic design, user interface design, visual communication, etc).

Hi Tim Wow! This video contained more information than I realised, because it was conveyed in such a clear and concise way. Invaluable, so a big "THANK YOU". I have graphic skills which has led me recently to look at embarking on a career that focuses on e-learning. You have really helped me. Keep up the good work! Sally

1. Clicking doesn't mean learning more (You need meaningful journey) 2. Content Size (Let go of some content) 3. E-learning is not always the right solution 4. E-learning is not just instructional design (Could be UI, Visuals, Graphic etc. )

I have questions about visuals and graphics? do instructional designers have to scout out photos, graphics, copyrights and how to build a library to use visual in a course.

This is a great video. I think the hardest thing for me is how to upskill. I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher in physics, mathematics and science. I deliver courses online using a Learning Management System. I am trying to find courses or programs at tertiary institutions where I get to upskill in andragogy and hematagogy, organisational development, as well as the coding, graphics design type skills demanded by these eLearning roles. Right now, I am good at using Moodle to deliver my classes. However, I am often wondering, "how could this be more interesting and meaningfully interactive?" "How can I get students to demonstrate learning with burdening myself with lots of electronic marking?"

Me too Eleanor. I teach at a college where we have a good LMS and sufficient faculty support and more than 30 years of designing effective classroom instruction for all ages. I want to identify resources to help build my proficiency with eLearning and distance education.

Hi Tim, Great video! So glad to find more IDers & EdTech folks on KZbin! What’s your advice on becoming more proficient in becoming an eLearning designer? As you mentioned, it’s much more than instructional design. I have an ID master degree, but feel stuck when it comes to eLearning specifically. Would you suggest an individual in my situation get training in a authoring and/or photo/video editing tools? Thanks! Ashley
@TimSladeeLearning6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Ashley! I appreciate it! To answer your question on how to become a more proficient eLearning designer, I'd simply say practice, practice, practice!

Tim Slade thanks so much. That’s essentially what I’ve been realizing. I’m looking forward to more of your videos. Are you apart of any ID/eLearning professional organizations? I’m hoping to connect specifically with more eLearnjng designers globally (part of my doctors research) - wondering if you’re connected to any large professional communities.

Thanks for the great video, Tim. I am currently in a Master's program in ID and building my eLearning project. in my prototype alpha test, one of the issues was participants having to leave the course to view an outside video. Participants that were new to eLearning had a difficult time figuring out how to get back in the main course. What is your view about open vs closed navigation to view content?
@Learningplan4 жыл бұрын
hi Jeanne, we see you posted this a year ago, but we believe that keeping the videos (and any other external content) embedded inside the learning solution keeps the learners within the experience so thereby minimizing the risk that you mention. All Authoring tools allow embedding of external content.

The first tip should be Build a “ Meaningful interactive experience .
@panwaripakora99055 жыл бұрын
Tip 2 and 4 are spot on!! IDs should know two things more: 1. Objectives. Because stakeholders have no idea how to create learning objectives 2. Content conversion. What can be a role play in class doesn't necessarily be a branching scenario
