Watch the full guide to becoming an instructional designer: • How to Become an Instr...
In this video, I discuss my top eLearning tips for instructional designers. These tips are meant to help you design eLearning that is more engaging and effective.
Since all you really need to create eLearning is an authoring tool (like Articulate Rise or Adobe Captivate), the quality of eLearning experiences out there ranges widely.
By following these tips, you will design eLearning experiences that do not overwhelm people, that keep them focused on the content at hand, and that give off a professional look-and-feel.
If you have any questions about the eLearning or instructional design tips in this video, please ask them in the comments below. I'm also always producing more instructional design content, so let me know if you'd like to see a video on any of the topics discussed.

Thanks for creating this platform. You have no idea how helpful this is! I have one suggestion. Could you make a series on how you approach writing storyboards/courses in storyline for different types of content? And how do you make these choices of which type of treatment would work better for the content? The same content can be shown in multiple ways and I always feel confused as to what would be the best approach.

Great question! This brings us into a much bigger topic (and I usually try to minimize the amount of content / maximize practice opportunities), but I am sure that I can create some content like this. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

Hi from New Delhi 🇮🇳 I have recently discovered your channel and have been binge-watching your videos. They are really helpful and informative. I just want to request you to make a video on “how to write scripts for articulate storyline.” I have been looking for this topic all over the internet but couldn't find it. I hope you will see this comment ❤

More great info Devlin so thanks for sharing. As an ID newbie there is a lot of resources and amazing people to share them, however I'm not sure where to spend my time and energy to keep up. Reading these great books, trying to develop in so many amazing pieces of software to get skills? Some days I feel like I'm going in circles and don't have enough hours in a day.

Don't worry, Jenene. I still feel like this! Since this is such an interdisciplinary field, there is always SO MUCH to learn. Think back to where you were 3 months ago. I bet you've come a long way! As long as you're doing something every day to develop yourself, you're moving in the right direction :)

I definitely wish I had started with design in Adobe, or one of the other products, before first iterating in Storyline. Lesson learned!
@DevlinPeckYT

Haha yes, we all learn that lesson at some point! I remember iterating in Storyline and building as I went. Nice for some things, but can lead to big headaches when working with clients.

@@DevlinPeckYT sounds good! Haven’t worked with storyline yet & it seems like a lot of jobs (even freelance) opportunities want you to be skilled in at least 1 tool (storyline or captivate). Kinda nervous to learn a new skill again 😅
