Thomas, loved your videos since the beginning. I have to say though, based on what I remember hearing your suggest years ago, this is 100% contradictory. I have to look through your older videos to be sure, but I remember you stating that MCT oil did not break a fast and that it was a fundamental supplement to take during a fast. I have built the fundamentals of my fasting diet on this info since I started more than 3 years ago. You also had a video a month or so ago where you said that MCT oil should not be used during a fast because it is a crutch that stops your body from producing ketones naturally. I do not recall you ever stating this before in a video. Still it is a far cry from what you presented in this video effectively saying that MCT should only be used after a fast to get any real benefit. To say I am confused as this point is an understatement.
@harrytsang15014 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you are seeking from fasting For ketosis and cognitive function, MCT oil should only affect your state briefly and you will be back on track relatively quickly, with the added benefit of feeling satiety For autophagy nobody knows for sure MCT will break a fast, but it may not be a complete setback of your goal
@amb6884 жыл бұрын
I felt the same way about one of his recent videos about fasting, he constantly contradicts himself, people justify it saying it’s new knowledge but if that’s the case, he should clarify that in the video or at least take the other videos down!

@@amb688 alot of his 'contradictions' are based on your personal goals, most people seem to be focused on being in ketosis or weight loss only but he is covering a wider range of topics that maybe don't align with your own personal goals. Good Stuff Thomas, but I would like to dig into the advice of putting it in warm coffee, but not hot coffee? At what temperature does MCT Oil break down? From googling, it looks like the smoke point of MCT Oil is 320. Most coffee is brewed at 195-205 degrees. Seems like there is plentry of buffer there. I actually like using MCT Oil to help keep the coffee hot - the oil holds onto the heat better compared to if not used.

When I had mct I'd always use it in my first meal, breaking usually a 15 or 16 hour TRE... and I never felt bad. I think it's because (1) I used only 5 g and (2) together with a LOT of food that was full of fibre and stuff. I guess it's a problem to have it in the first meal with coffee or pure because then yes... it will shock the gut. Plus coffee is a gut irritant. But taking it along with food and 1/2 the recommended dose would give me stable energy and good gut response. The food buffered the entrance of MCT a bit, avoiding this shock.

I think something that needs to be considered with MCT oil is that it is HIGHLY capable of breaking things down, especially when hot. I've read some online posts about it eating styrofoam coffee cups (literally bursting through burning someone's hand), causing coffee lidds to crack and leak/wear thin over time, eating the paint/ink off of measuring cups (i've observed this myself just after a couple of uses), and I myself have been having it in hot coffee and my teeth are wearing thinner and getting sensitive. I don't think anyone should be having any MCT oil unless it comes in a glass bottle, and also I wouldn't let it get above 130 degrees at max. I decided to switch to butter in my coffee this morning without any MCT oil and I feel amazing. I'm wondering how much plastic is in my system both from the bottle it sits in and from my blender and coffee tumbler as well. I think blending it up with cold coffee is the only way it should be used in coffee.

What temperature do you need to stay under for MCT? I have been adding it to my coffee probably too hot.

I’d like to know too. Cooking temps are way hotter than I make my coffee. I don’t want to drink lukewarm coffee though, and I need it to stay fairly warm while I drink it because I add a tablespoon of beef gelatin and other supplements to my morning coffee. I don’t take mct oil for weight loss but to help combat mental fatigue from cfs/fms.

I just take spoonful(s) separately rather than adding it to anything. Find that easier. I do take it the same time as food though.

I learnt not to break my fast with MCT oil recently when I drank 15 mg straight down and had a howling belly ache for the first time in my life (and I'm 79!). I was nauseous for the rest of the day.

i think MCT oil IS very valuable when transitioning into fasting when you haven't hit ketosis on your own but want ketones in your body to fuel your brain.

So I usually break my fast with a protein shake. I use Sunwarrior"s Plant based protein (a recommended protein powder by yourself) that contains mtc in it. I add some fruits and almond milk to the recipe. Will this still have the same effect on the gut from fasting even though its combined with the protein?

Can breast cancer patient takd MCT oil?

Pretty sure it converts to ketones for the brain to use as energy whether fasting or not.

Cleared the fog there Thomas thanksfor that. I am minus 30lbs fat and holding ,male 53 yrs of age with 16 yr old lumbar fusion. Thank you !!! For being part of my miracle. Question....Would mct in conjunction with a d-ribose and beet juice combo be logical for a pre-workout non-stimulate supplement??
@Filipp812 жыл бұрын

Can I drink ketones during a fast, such as a product called Pruvit? Sugar free sweetened w/ Stevia. There supposed to be bio-identical ketones. Any info on this? Thank you!! I’m trying to get my Keto lifestyle under control and do it properly! Blessings!

How much MCT oil should you have a day when on Keto? I'm 7 weeks in.

I was recently given an open container of milk from a friend and thought that they had put in laxative in it not realizing that I had taken too much MCT oil over at least 10 hours. 10 to 16 hours earlier.

I find taking a little MCT oil at bedtime during a fast helps me sleep rather than laying awake for hours thinking about how hungry I am. It's not always necessary, but sometimes it's just what I need. I am on a very low carb diet (no starches or sugar) and am alway in ketosis, no jump start needed.
