i love annotating books for fun. i don't do it in an academic way, i just love writing any of my thoughts about the book in the margins. this may vary from "oh my god i love this chapter" to "holy shit why am i crying" to "i love this character". i also love lending books to my friends and i always encourage them to annotate them as well. it's so much fun to look back at these and see how my friends started having conversations in the margins! love the video

Me: Watches a 16+ min video about annotating. Also me: Has zero intention of annotating my books. I really admire people who can annotate and enjoy it but like you said it just makes it feel like school/homework for me. I must admit I do really like your system though, there's nothing too rigid about it and you've made it work for you without being too complicated. If I ever did take up annotating I would probably do something like this so I appreciate the tips! ❤️

Personally, annotating has never been homework. I always underline shit that sticks out to me (mostly emotional) and it honestly makes the reading experience way better. I just did it because I lovelovelove going back to quotes and reading them and it makes me so happy. Usually, if I dont underline a lot I didnt like the book. I dont even have to think about it cause you cant really donate books in my country (unless second hand asks for it) so it's like whatever lol. People always think I was super weird for doing it and ruined them but I feel like more people are annotating and I'm seeing more videos about it? It's nice

I love too for books too. Mostly would just underline a quote here or there not hardcore annotation for joy reads. Lately, I’ve gotten a bit afraid again to mark up a book from seeing all the judgement online. I wouldn’t care before & now I’m starting to break out of my shell again marking up my books. It’s much more fun that way!

Loved the video! I personally really love annotating my books, I don't do it to everyone I read. But most of my books that I read for fun I do annotate. It's interesting that you feel it takes you out of the story or feels like homework. Because to me it makes me become even more invested in the story, and I especially love when I reread a book and I can see what I was thinking before.

This really helped me realise that I didn't really want to annotate my books "properly" but just a quote here and there or some dialogue I found funny. I've watched so many annotation videos and almost everyone has these elaborate systems of highlighting and tabbing and underlining and it's really overwhelming sometimes. Thanks to this video I think I'll just stick to tabbing and highlighting absolute favorite quotes/scenes! (I also feel like it rips me out of the story if I meticulously try and highlight + tab everything)

When you were talking about about highlighting for yourself and classmates/professors, I do the same thing except with pen colors! That's one thing I like about literature classes is that you get different perspectives on the story and it brings new things to your attention about it which making notes of could be helpful! Also, I don't annotate books for fun but I did try reading Shakespeare for fun and annotating it, it didn't go well lol.

I love annotating the books I read for fun especially murder mystery books it makes me feel more involved and like I’m trying to solve the case with them! For books that aren’t murder mystery I love to highlight my favourite quotes I’m going to start a book journal soon so I’m super excited!

This video was brilliant! Very helpful. Taking a novella class for an elective and I have to write a two to four page annotation. Not something I've ever done before. So thanks

I really love the idea of using a separate color when noting things discussed in class. I’m definitely going to try that!

You would be the most amazing English professor ever!! Personally I tab passages in books that I find to be funny because I like to find the quotes again and have a good laugh! 😊

I absolutely love the idea of having two highlighters, one for at home and one for class! Thanks for this tip, I have to read a book in school next year. Because it is about a criminal case we will have a lot of conversations in class and a lot of different opinions. This will help me a lot

I 100% agree about the annotating getting stressful if you’re reading for fun. I usually only use tabs but I tried highlighting and writing in books and it was way too time consuming but everyone’s experience is different

Omg! Thank you so much! I'm about to start my first year of college soon, so this was such a helpful tip. Now, I'm honestly thinking about annotating my books just for fun. You know, for practice reasons. However, I'm usually not okay with writing in my books.

I use postit tabs because I often see something described so well...or something I want to relive...or things I want to look into. I would forget...I don't want to forget...x

Just finished writing an article on reading and using a commonplace book and your video showed up. Really enjoyed it and then you had to mention about possibly writing your thesis on King and I’m like “Let me check the rest of her channel. Things look promising” :-P Great video.
