Congratulations on a great buck. I personally like the real emotion, shows me how much you respect the animal and the true thankfulness. And personally if you don't have some remorse when you kill one of Gods beautiful creatures, you shouldn't be hunting. Its always bitter sweet. Thanks for sharing, all the people bashing you for the shot, imo everyone knows their own skill level and equipment, you made the shot and the animal died quickly, you cant really ask for anymore. Thanks for sharing.

Amen brother! It's unfortunate that hunters are so quick to slam other hunters. Like you said, know your equipment and skill level and make a decision in the heat of the moment. Fortunately he did expire quickly and was recovered - the two main things we hope for in every hunt.

Great story and glad your hard work paid off. We should all be humble enough to understand why you took that shot with the equipment you’re using; particularly after going to full draw and stopping the deer at 15 yards. I don’t know many folks that would’ve let him blow out of there after chasing him for 2 years and busting your tail and wallet to keep him on and around your property. Bow hunting is tough and it is meant to be rewarding and it’s unfortunate that KZbin trolls feel the need to bash you! Congratulations and good luck next season!

I think the new research is showing that just because it’s a heavy arrow, doesn’t mean it’s going to penetrate. I would look into testing some arrows that have stiffer shafts compared to those full metal jackets. Yes the fmj is heavy, but it bends quite a bit on impact resulting in the loss of energy.

After reading all the negative comments, i bet you wish this didn't get aired. Seems like a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there with a jealous attitude. This old man watches a lot of these type of vedios. Did you have to take the shot. No. But you obviously were confindent enough in it to do it. You had a close enough shot to pull this off. At 20 plus yards, not a good idea. But here, i find you Not Guilty of taking a large risk! I've seen "The Hunting Public cover this scenario several times and i agree with them. As long as you're confident with you're ability, you do not deserve this abuse. I am not confident in mine to take this shot. But i don't practice enough. Many people make bad shots on ideal angles, and I'm guilty of this also. Great Buck. Congrats!

We appreciate the kind words! We agree, too many people acting like every shot they’ve ever taken on an animal was perfect. Sad what’s happened and still happening to hunting. Has just turned into a scoring sport instead of a passion and a way to connect to God and the outdoors. The animals lives aren’t taken into account as they once were and making the most ethical shots possible. It’s just about killing antlers inches. I was there for a year or two but realized I had gone the wrong direction and have changed back to what hunting is all about, (feeding family and friends with the freshest and cleanest meat, spending time with the family and friends, making sure the animals are taken in the fastest and most ethical way possible and if that shot doesn’t present itself then I let the animal walk). Nice deer but too great of a chance that it could have turned out very negatively. I don’t measure the antlers on bucks I harvest. When someone asks me how many inches my deer was I ask why would I care, there is meat in my freezer and I can’t eat antlers.
