She's got some gorgeous specimens both large and small.

How gorgeous! She has poured a lot of love into those babies, I hope she can keep a few at least, I know it must be very hard for her to give some up to others. I wished we lived closer, I would love to just come and see her hard work and hear stories about those beauties.

The same agaves here in southwest FL bloom like that too! It's just unfortunate the mama plant dies after producing her magnificent stalk of flowers. Usually by then there are 'pups' growing around the base. *An FYI for agave fans - My husband and I had quite a few varieties growing on our property. In one of his clumsier moments, my husband managed to get stuck in the forearm by a spine. He thought nothing of it until @ 6 months later the area bacame inflamed and angry looking. A trip to our doctor for what he thought would be some antibiotic ointment turned into a rush to a surgeon and extensive surgery! A tiny piece of the tip of the agave spine had broken off in his arm (he had no idea at the time). Within the 6 month period, the fragment had burrowed under 3 layers of muscle and was at the bone, which caused the infection! The surgeon was so 'impressed' by the amount of damage this plant had done that he had the surgery video taped and took extensive photos. We still have the surgery photos but decided it best to re-home the plants! The moral being, please be careful working around agaves with stiff spines. We regularly de-tipped the spines for fear that our dog would get 'stuck' looking for his ball. Looks like we missed one!

Wow. I can only dream of plants like that. Laura I recently purchased for $5NZ each five 30 - 40 year old succulents. They are in pots and I don't know how to care for them other than repotting and protecting them from frosts as they will be living outdoors. Do you have any advice for me please?

Laura I just have a question. I have a young aloe vera plant in a pot inside. it sits in my window sill. and it turned purple. could you please tell me what you think happened?

i have a similar issue with mine. I've noticed it happens if it gets too much direct sunlight, when i move mine away from the window it turns green again. I'm not 100% sure if this is right though, hopefully laura has an idea.

Andrew Webber yep. A purple Aloe Vera is a stressed Aloe Vera. Move it to a slightly shadier spot😊
