Sarah, join the crazy artist - photographer club! The things we do, the fears we forget, when going in search of that perfect photograph, hearing its call, and the need to find it... and when it's taken, wondering how the heck we got there, and more, how the heck do we get back? Well, of course, we do, cos there are yet more beautiful fascinating things to photograph on the way back... Crazy, completely crazy, but what beautiful, wonderful photographs (and in your case, videos, too!) - forever and unforgettable. Oh, I do miss being able to use my non-digital SLR!!! Maybe one day... maybe... Thank you both for this lovely video. I've learned to keep these till it's dark and the day's work is just about done before watching, because it's the best way to take it all in. Sleep well, Sarah. 😊

I love film photography. It was how I learned and I miss it. But I couldn’t keep up the expenses of getting it developed and scanned. Maybe someday when I retire 🙃 haha never gonna happen! 🤣 oh well. I think I’ll get my film camera out again in the future when I go to Italy.

When you come and do gardenstown & crovie, take extra fluids, our section is nothing but relentless very very steep hills.
@sarahinscotland Жыл бұрын
Yea I’ve been looking at trail maps and read some reports. Sadly much of the coast is blocked by farm with barbed wire fences, so I may end up using the small road along until Gardenstown. From there to Troup Head it looks like there’s a footpath but yes VERY hilly 😅 I’ll be feeling the burn!
@artbyashley6613 Жыл бұрын
@@sarahinscotland probably the easiest way to do it but there's a lack of places to chain up your bikes if your cycling. Taking the car.. park at New Ground (parking area just past Elie's Tea shop), then walk from there. The biggest hill is the one out of Crovie (dirt track, can be slippery), once you've recovered from that the rest is pretty easy. In gardenstown walk across the beach then take the wee path through the den up to St John's kirkyard. Trust me. The view 😍. Don't forger to check the tide times at high tide the path between gardenstown & crovie can get covered.

You need a giant laminate sheet to overlay on your big map so you can highlight your journey! Also, even though it's called Portsoy Marble, marble (altered limestone) is different from serpentinite (altered ultramafics) but one is often mistaken for the other.
@sarahinscotland Жыл бұрын
Ah interesting! I was wondering because when I started looking into it things got confusing. The photos look like serpentinite but they certainly label it as Portsoy Marble. There is a cool report I found showing swirly patterns too. I need to go back and investigate

Beautiful, Sarah! Thanks for sharing your journeys with us. The coastline is very similar to North West Tasmania - I can see why my parents felt at home here in Tasmania after leaving Scotland. After you finish your journey down the Aberdeen coastline perhaps an easyish (haha) route might be the Fife Coastal Pathway? Maybe not quite as scenic as other parts of Scotland but there are some great wee spots, lots of history, and lovely fishing villages. Could follow it down to Culross or thereabouts, and then a whole section of East coast Scotland would be 'done'! Whatever you decide, I'll be watching from halfway around the world 😊
@sarahinscotland Жыл бұрын
I’m headed to Fife for an art workshop in July so I will scout out the coast too and get an idea. I enjoy sections that aren’t super dramatic too. I like quiet beauty and maybe it will give me a good reason to explore some towns and do urban sketching :)
