I think this is rather their tech demo / hypercar equivalent, what sours this a bit: there are self upgraded bromptons on the steel frame which are as light. I would have loved to see greater range / more gears for this. I struggle a lot with my c-line. Both because of the weight and the gearing. It‘s a great bike, I love it and I think they cash in on this love

This is a pretty typical pattern in bike world, as the weight goes down the price goes up exponentially. Over time the tech filters down, like the new derailleur for example, and the more reasonable price bikes get better.
@fender100010011 ай бұрын
That's what you are paying for light and efficient. It takes a lot less watts to go a given speed and distance on a light efficient bike. Than on a cheap heavy clumsy bike. The same reason nobody in their right mind is going to enter the Tour De France on a 26lb Trek FX2 costing £500.. But a 16lb Cervelo costing 10k plus..

@bvir0n962 жыл бұрын
I recently saw a post on Reddit concerning skateboard wheels. Apparently there seems to be a problem due to the wheels being comparably harder and therefore transferring more energy to the frame. People are recording cracks at the point of connection between wheel holding thing and rear triangle. You might want to look into that.

As an owner of the former Top, 2019 flame painted, black version SuperlightM6LXBrompton I have made it even lighter in every way I was able to. The clips for the mudguards titanium stays (Heavy Metal!) + a new titanium seat post and all the minor parts to find, mostly (I still need to change a few). I may not come quite come down to the new titanium version (for now 8,5 kilo, with mudguards!!), but I still have 6 gears, which I need. And I don't like the new pedal system, which may be lost, if unlucky during Transport (The Bromptons real purpose as it is a horrible bike!). Finn. Denmark

I got my bike from new in my local Brompton Shop, with a "Scandinavian Size" (?), 600 mm seat post and now, for a test (Still being a 184 cm, heavy man) I have also changed to a 535 mm standard length, seat post, made from titanium, and still with the wide end bottom, to prevent theft! When I tried to buy one extra, Standard Post from Brompton, I found out, that for the price I could buy a "Black Titanium" seat post from China, so I did this of course (It feels very solid, so I'm not scared of the quality!).

Weight doesnt always mean faster. My Tern verge X11 weighs 23.5lbs and cost £2400. And it will leave this TLINE for dead on the street. And on steep hills especially. Its about power transfer. And frame stiffness. And no folder has a stiffer frame than the X11. Or more efficient power transfer from foot to back wheel.

Great to see that Brompton is finally feeling the pressure to innovate and experiment with new materials, now that their patent/monopoly on the trifold has expired and competition in trifolds is growing. Of all the bits not to go titanium... I would totally swap out that fork for titanium. Doesn't the p-line have titanium forks? Why didn't they just use those? At least if it was a steel fork, you could slap an ebike kit on it as a future upgrade. Also, don't most folks prefer the faster and simpler folding pedals? Half the guy's folding time was just fumbling with the pedal. And all those extra holes are going to fill wth grit and moisture. I foresee 3rd party rubber stoppers gallore. One of the massive selling points of titaniun is it is corrosion resistant, but that doesn't matter if all your steel components and screws rust into place. Why not titanium screws if they really wanted the lightest bike possible? I thought titanium was as strong as steel, but lighter? There is some engineering I am not understanding as to why they had to make the frame tubes so fat and ugly compared to their sleek steel ones, like fat cheap aluminum frames. Also the bike is unnecessarily loud, like a cicada from hell. Users can always add noise in the form of bells or horns etc. but it is hard to make something already noisy quieter. Noisy is great in cities where you got to make sure cars know you are there, but noise can ruin tranquil nature rides. If I wanted noise, I'd jump on a motorcycle or wedge a playing card over the spokes. Lots of great improvements otherwise, such as ripping off 3rd party magnetic aligners, or the more future-proofed hinge pins, or being able to lock the fold with the seatpost only half down. But disappointing that those straight up improvements are not being introduced to all of the Brompton lines.
@philthewriter2 жыл бұрын
It is disappointingly ugly. I love what my Brompton looks like, and love what my Ti road bike looks like, and a lot of that is because of the old-school super skinny frames. Was expecting this to look nicer. Light though!
@railwaystationmaster2 жыл бұрын
The existing Ti fork is NOT compatible OOPS .
@rabomarc2 жыл бұрын
Brompton superlight and some limited editions like CHPT3 had titanium forks and rear triangle for years. The current P line which replaces the superlight still has titanium fork and the rear triangle is also titanium but it has been re-engineered almost entirely. As per titanium and steel - yes, the strength of titanium is roughly as strong as steel and it weighs around 40% less. However it is also significantly less stiff than steel hence the tube diameter need to be larger.
@AdamHouston2 жыл бұрын
Re the pedals, no, many of us don’t prefer the folding pedal. First change I make to any new Brompton is to replace the pedals. MKS pedals are popular for good reasons, and there are lighter options available for the weight weenies. I wish the P-line came with the new T-line pedals.

I've been riding this bike for about a month kzbin.infoUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

Morning all. I have a question not sure if this is the best place to ask. I have an old carbon trek Y33. It’s a full suspension mountain bike from the mid/early 1990’s. Is there a way for me to change out the suspension if I am only doing road rides? Not sure where to start and don’t want to mess up the bike either.

Here’s a thing. Even if you are 80 kilos and 60 years old, in good to excellent shape living in an arid climate and on this 7kilo plus bike, I do not believe you will climb any faster than on the 6speed Black edition from 2018. ( I own one ) It weighs just under 11 kilos after tweaking it. Please, correct me if I am wrong. I get it. Brompton are in a class of their own, no doubt. I have a Moots titanium hard tail made in the late 80s ( and tried the Ti version 1 ) and I still cannot move any faster… Love the bike though. Just need to convince myself of partying with 5k.
